Acura is the premium automotive brand owned by Honda. One of their most beloved and successful vehicles on offer is the MDX, a three-row luxury SUV that is the epitome of practicality, luxuriousness, and efficiency. The 2022 Acura MDX has been fully overhauled; Acura has taken note of everything that was wrong with the previous gen model and has worked upon those shortcomings.
The engine onboard the 2022 MDX is a more refined version of the old 3.5-liter V6 engine; it now comes mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Exterior styling cues have been borrowed from the TLX sedan and RDX compact SUV. Coming to the interior, the cabin feels plush. It competes against rivals like the Audi Q7, Buick Enclave and Volvo XC90 but the lower price of the MDX makes it a more preferable choice.
2022 Acura MDX Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort
The 2022 Acura MDX comes with a well-designed and plush cabin that boasts a 12.3-digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen display on the dash. The dash comes covered in Leatherette-Trim while a leather-wrapped steering wheel is available right from the base trim. Brushed aluminum trim on the inside is available on the base trim, while open-pore wood trim comes with the Advanced package and Technology package. Acura also equips the 2022 MDX with all sorts of features like 16-way power-adjustable seats with massaging functions, heated seats, leather upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The 2022 Acura MDX is a three-row crossover which means there is no lack of space. The first and second row offers adequate space, while the third row remains better suited for children. The second row comes with a removable middle seat changing the rear seat layout from bench seat, to captain's chair layout. You also get one touch smart slide walkin to move the second row seats ahead making it easier to enter the third row. Overall, the 2022 MDX’s cabin is quite plush and offers decent space but fails to match the grandeur that a few other rivals offer.

There is no lack of interior space in any of the listed SUVs. However, you get the most spacious and well-proportioned cabin in the Buick Enclave. It offers better legroom in the third row as well, something no other rival offers. 2022 Acura MDX and 2022 Audi Q7 have almost identical interior dimensions and thus similar seating space. But the interior of the 2022 Q7 feels more tech rich and plush. However, Volvo XC90 offers a more balanced interior but the interior room is a lot less than what the MDX has on offer.
2022 Acura MDX Infotainment
As standard, 2022 Acura MDX comes equipped with a 12.3-in HD Dual-Content Center Display controlled via a True Touchpad interface. The touchpad is mounted on the center console and is not the best way to navigate through the infotainment system. It would take a while for a new person to get familiar with the interface. Apart from that, you also get a 12.3-in HD Precision Cockpit Digital Instrument Cluster and 10.5-inch HUD. Other features that are available as standard in the MDX include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa.
Both the rows come with separate USB charging ports while a single USB audio interface is present in the front row. Other features like HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity are also standard. Moving up to higher trims you get navigation and an additional USB port in the third row. The standard sound system is a nine-speaker unit while you can get a 12-speaker ELS studio system with the technology package. The A-spec and Advanced package come with a 16-speaker ELS 3D premium sound system.

2022 Acura MDX Cargo Capacity
The 2022 Acura MDX is longer than the previous model and also comes with an increased wheelbase which directly affects the available cargo space, in a good way. A small cargo trunk is present behind the third row of seats which offers 16.3 cubic feet of space. The available under-floor storage increases the overall space to 18.1 cubic feet with all three rows of seats in place.
Folding down the third-row seats you get access to a total of 39.1 cubic feet of space which can be further increased to 48.4 cubes with the rear row seats moved forward. The second-row seats also fold flat to provide a total of 71.4 cubic feet of space available behind the first row of seats. If that humongous space is also not enough for you, then the front seats can slide forward opening up a total of 98 cubic feet of space.

Standard Cargo Capacity (ft³)
Maximum Cargo capacity (ft³)
The new and bigger 2022 Acura MDX offers a pretty big cargo trunk. It offers 18 cubes of space behind the third of seats but it is the 2022 Enclave that wins the crown here. With the second and third row of seats folded down, the space increases to a whopping 98 cubic feet, again something which not any other rival can touch. The 2022 Q7 and 2022 XC90 are comparatively too small in front of the MDX.
Additional Interior Storage Spaces
As standard, you get a glove box and door pockets. Two cup holders are present in the center console to store your drinks while a center cubby space is present in front of these cup holders for your smartphone. The center console is also covered and comes with a small storage tray on top, with a storage bin present beneath this tray. Seat Back map pockets are present in the second row along with a foldable center second-row seat. Also, Two cup holders and two slots for your smartphone are present in this foldable middle seat.
2022 Acura MDX Creature Comforts
2022 Acura MDX offers a lot of features that other rivals offer for an additional cost. 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating function, removable middle second-row seat, one-touch access to the third row, tri-zone automatic climate control are all available as standard. The list does not end there, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, and push-button start are also available right from the base trim.
Higher trim incorporates Heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats and a heated steering wheel. Top-level Advanced Package comes with Milano leather with contrast stitching and piping. The long list of features and premium materials used inside the cabin gives it an exceptional feel. However, it still fails to match the quality that its rivals have on offer.
The 2022 Acura MDX has improved significantly over last year's model. It comes with a long list of comfort features all available for a lower price tag than its rivals. This makes it a great deal. However, the cabin falls a bit short when compared to the more expensive rivals. The only other noticeable drawback would be the touchpad controller for the infotainment system. Otherwise, the interior of the 2022 MDX seems flawless.
