The all-new 2022 Acura TLX will arrive without any changes compared to the previous year’s model. Notably, the Acura TLX received a complete overhaul for the 2021 model year, with more power and performance. The second-generation TLX has witnessed betterment in every aspect of evaluation, say in the engine department or the cabin quality. Featuring the new turbocharged motor underneath the hood, it pushes out 272 horses, powering the front wheels.

Acura TLX hasn’t been a valuable offering during its first generation. However, the second generation TLX comes out to be a tough competitor in the compact sedan segment. The 2022 Acura TLX pricing is expected to be around $39,000 and offers stiff rivalry to the mighty Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Honda Accord.

Overall Rating

The 2022 TLX model would be a carryover of the predecessor with minor aesthetic updates. So, the TLX Sedan prices are likely to be less hiked compared to the 2021 Acura TLX price. We expect the 2022 Acura TLX to be priced at around $39,000 for the base, $43,000 for the Technology Package, $46,000 for the A-Spec Package, and $48,000 for the top-of-the-line Advance Package. AWD of each trim shall add $1,000 to the respective prices.

We Recommend

We would suggest you go with the Technology package that is an ultimate value for money deal. For the 2022 model, you will get to choose from three available packages. The Technology package seems to be a smart choice compared to the other two packages.

2022 Acura TLX Release Date

Acura hasn’t released any official information regarding the date of release of the 2022 TLX. However, we expect the sedan to hit the markets by the fall of 2021. The Acura TLX Type S model will be on sale at the end of May 2021.

2022 Acura TLX Engine and Performance

8.0/10

Being a carryover model, the 2022 Acura TLX will feature the same two powertrain options. The base models shall carry the 2.0-Liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine churning out 272 horses and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2022 TLX Type-S would carry a more powerful 3.0L Turbocharged V6 motor, that churns out a massive 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. These engines come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission unit that powers the front wheels as standard.

2022 Acura TLX Sedan Engine Bay

All-wheel-drive comes available, which demands slightly more from your pockets. The engine is punchy enough and pushes out a good amount of power. The FWD drivetrain would satisfy any daily drives, and there is AWD if your drives are busier and tougher. With the same engine under the hood, the 2022 Acura TLX would have the same acceleration figures as its predecessor. The TLX Sedan takes around 5.9 seconds to hit 60 mph on the speedometer from a perfect standstill. The sedan takes around 14.5 seconds to complete the quarter-mile race.

295lb-ft @ 1,550rpm

All the rivals feature similar engines for the base and get slightly better figures with a difference of milliseconds, which are practically unnoticed. The Audi A4 hits 60mph in 5.6 seconds and a quarter-mile in 14 seconds, which is the best in the competition.

The second-generation Acura TLX has bagged several positive reviews regarding the ride quality and driving dynamics. The sleek handling characteristics and upscale driving experience make the TLX Sedan class-apart. The 2022 TLX is the best-in-class when it comes to the power figures. However, the Bimmer drags Acura to the second position when it comes to the torque figures.

2022 Acura TLX Fuel Economy

9.0/10

The 2022 Acura TLX, same as the predecessor, would have the same fuel economy figures. Acura has maintained a perfect balance between performance and fuel efficiency, which made the Turbo Inline-4 add up 22 miles per gallon on city drives and 31 miles per gallon on highways.

The sedan offers a combined mileage of 25, which is good enough in the segment. With a large 15.8-gallon fuel tank, 2022 TLX shall promise a range of 347 miles on the city, 489 miles on highways, and 395 miles combined. The overall range offered by the Acura TLX is sufficiently impressive for a longer drive, and you need to have only fewer stops at the gas station.

While Honda Accord seems to have similar efficiency figures as Acura, the mighty BMW 3-Series and the Audi A4 offer better figures. The BMW 3 Series returns class-leading 26 MPG on the city, 36 MPG on highways, and 30 MPG combined. The fuel tank of TLX Sedan is large enough to offer a good range in the city as well as highway. Audi comes second followed by Acura TLX and then the Honda Accord.

2022 Acura TLX Interior

8.0/10

The 2022 Acura TLX would probably offer an unchanged interior over the 2021 model year. However, a few aesthetic updates are expected in the interior too. The luxurious and neat cabin offers a good amount of space for the passengers, especially in the front. The rear seems to be somewhat cramped for tall passengers. The TLX interior has been made far more practical and stylish than the first generation. The refreshed AcuraLink infotainment system and a plethora of features make the cabin rich and premium.

2022 Acura TLX Sedan Dashboard

The entire cabin has been crafted even to the minute details. The sedan comes standard with premium leather upholstery. Milano leather upholstery is made available in the technology package. You would get Automatic Climate Control, plenty of storage space within the cabin, tech-packed infotainment, and a 13-speaker ELS sound system making the Acura TLX a good choice.

Competing with the rivals, Honda Accord gets the best figures in the space offered on front. Coming to the rear, the title is taken away by the BMW 3-Series. The space offered on TLX is plenty enough in the front but would have to be improved at the rear. Accord offers the best-in-class legroom in both front and rear. It also scores top in the cargo capacity with 16.7 cubic feet of space followed by TLX at 13.5 cubic feet. The notable features inside the 2022 Acura TLX include:

  • Open-pore wood and aluminum interior trim
  • 12-way power adjustments
  • Driver eccentric dashboard design
  • Automatic Climate Control
  • Intuitive infotainment system

2022 Acura TLX Infotainment System

The infotainment system that comes with the 2022 Acura TLX includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen interface along with onboard Navigation and the latest connectivity features. The audio system comprises a 13-speaker premium sound system by ELS and an optional 17-speaker ELS Studio sound system as part of the Technology package. For easy connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available.

2022 Acura TLX Sedan Infotainment

Additional features include in-car Wi-Fi, Voice Recognition, steering mounted controls, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Some of the noticeable features in the 2022 Acura TLX are:

  • 10.2-inch infotainment display
  • 17-speaker sound system
  • Optional Technology Package
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto

2022 Acura TLX Exterior

9.0/10

The second-generation Acura TLX has introduced a fresh face for the sedan. The streamlined design makes it more aerodynamic and improves the handling characteristics. With body lines all around, the sedan now looks sportier. The front grille gets a diamond-shaped look, which makes the entire front fascia stylish and catchy. While the sharp Jewel Eye LED headlights emboss in the front, the triangular taillights beautify the rear end.

2022 Acura TLX Sedan Three Quarter View

The 2022 TLX model would remain the same in the design language. We expect some more options in the exterior color. The standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels would also offer some options to the buyers. The hood is longer, as it is in the predecessor, making it longer than the rivals as well. The rest of the factors including the trunk opening and space on offer do remain the same.

Compared to the rivals, the 2022 Acura TLX holds a curb weight of 3702 pounds, followed by the Audi A4. With a wheelbase of 113 inches, the TLX Sedan would offer a joyful ride as it did before in its previous model. Some of the important exterior features on the 2022 Acura TLX are:

  • Jewel Eye LED Headlights
  • 18”/19” Aluminium Alloy wheel
  • Power Folding Mirror with Puddle Light
  • LED Fog Lights

2022 Acura TLX Safety

6.0/10

The 2022 TLX, carried over from the 2021 model year, would stand on the same strong structure with a well-tuned chassis. The structure has been built prioritizing safety and stability. Acura would integrate the most advanced collision prevention and mitigation systems within so that the occupants would be safe on roads.

Some of the most demanded features such as the Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert shall all be there in the 2022 model year with the AcuraWatch Safety Suite that includes Pedestrian detection, road departure mitigation, and many more. Safety features including an advanced airbag system, AMS with EBD, traction control would remain as standard.

The 2022 Acura TLX is yet to undergo any crash tests. Since the model remains the same its the previous model year, the safety rating would likely be unchanged. Notably, the 2021 Acura TLX received the top 5-star rating from the NHTSA. IIHS has also given ‘Good’ ratings in all parameters and nominated it to be the 2021 Top Safety Pick+, which is indeed a difficult title to win. The rivals compete too well on the safety front. All of them scored high in the ratings from NHTSA and IIHS. Audi A4 is honored with Top Safety Pick from IIHS, Honda Accord gets the Top Safety Pick+ from the same. BMW 3-Series also scores well in the ratings, which makes it tough to choose from them.

2022 Acura TLX Competition

6.0/10

2022 Acura TLX vs 2021 Honda Accord

Comparing between the two, Honda Accord thrives well in terms of cabin space. However, Acura is longer, wider, and stylish than Accord. Safety ratings are similar for both.

2021 Honda Accord

Being a new generation, it seems to be more advanced technologically than Accord. Be it the engine department or efficiency in fuel, TLX goes well over the Honda Accord.

2022 Acura TLX vs 2021 Audi A4

Audi A4 has been an excellent German sedan loved by many. It offers crafted design in both interior and exterior and offers numerous tech tweaks within.

2021 Audi A4

It scores well in the engine department and efficiency as well, but Acura takes the lead over Audi. It also gets plush interior and luxurious drives, which makes Audi stand behind it.

2022 Acura TLX vs 2021 BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series remains unmatched and best-in-class for every aspect it is compared for. Being pricier than TLX, the 3 Series offers far better driving dynamics, handling, and performance.

2021 BMW 3 Series

The engine specs, fuel efficiency, acceleration, space, technology, and every character get the best with the BMW 3 Series when taken as a rival for the TLX.

2022 Acura TLX Final Verdict

The fully redesigned second-generation Acura TLX offers great driving enthusiasm to every sedan lover. Powered with an efficient turbocharged engine, the sedan's performance is on a safer side.
