Overall Rating

With the S badge, this grand touring Convertible get much sportier. Priced at $311,650, the 2018 Vanquish S Volante is equipped with the same naturally aspirated V12 engine as that of the vanquished but with increased power. So now we can say that the Aston Martin has finally overcome the drawback in the power difference between the Vanquish and its younger sibling the DB11.

Though it should fall in a line with that of the Lamborghinis and the Ferraris, its luxury and the grand touring aspect along with its price range put the Vanquish S Volante in the line-up of the high range luxury sports convertibles such as the Bentley Continental GT Convertible and the Mercedes Benz AMG S 65.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Features

8.3/10

This Super GT by the Aston Martin is the only one of its kind and probably the last one of the era. Still the Aston Martin has made it so abundant with features that it can boast enough of the Vanquish S Volante, especially after embedding it with the 'S' badge.

For the starters its 5.9 liter Naturally Aspirated V12 engine now delivers 12 more horses to its rear wheels and is paired with 8 Speed Touchtronic III transmission. Apart from that improvised suspension and stiffer anti roll bars that improvise its handling.

Talking about features, the 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante comes with 2 standard rear seats which are optional in the Coupe and many other standard features such as the 20 inch 10 spoke black alloy cast wheels, carbon fiber splitter, diffuser and side sills, launch control, a limited-slip differential, carbon-ceramic brakes, an adaptive suspension, xenon headlights, etc.

We Recommend

What is luxury if you can't feel comfy about it? So Aston Martin provides the Vanquish S Volante with many optional features and thus helps you customize this Grand Tourer as you like. So all we recommend you is to not compromise with your comfort when you are being provided with what you want and go for the optional features that you like.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Engine

9.1/10

The 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante is considered to be the last convertible that the automakers will be inducing with the 5.9Liter Naturally Aspirated AM 29 V12 engine. Produced by Cosworth for about two decades now the Aston Martin's V12 engines have been known amongst the most powerful and angrily roaring internal combustion engines in the world.

Coming back to the Vanquish S Volante, it can be said that it doesn't scream to grab attention, it roars to subtly command your attention. The enhanced Naturally Aspirated V12 engine powers up the rear wheel with a 580 horse power and 465lb-ft torque. Also this engine is paired up with the 8 speed Touchtronic III transmission which has been retuned to deliver quicker shifts to its ZF gearbox with just a touch.

The Naturally Aspirated V12 of the Vanquish S Volante might get a little less powered when compared to the biturbo V12 of the Mercedes AMG S 65 Cabriolet. Its might still be considered on par with that of the W12 engine of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible.

Acceleration

The Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante, though is less powerful seems to be quite a performer. It takes 3.5 seconds to reach a speed of 60mph. Looks like the beast is taking full advantage of its lower weight due to the Carbon Fiber induced in the front. Although its quarter mile record seems to be quite sluggish with a duration of 11.9 seconds. This becomes the drawback of being Naturally Aspirated engine whereas the turbo charged engines picks up the pace due to their forced induction which results in quick internal combustion than that of the naturally aspirated engines.

The Vanquish S Volante turns out to be the quickest to touch the speed of 60mph amongst the competition. On the other hand even though its quarter mile record turns out to be a bit sluggish, it runs the quarter mile on par with its competitors. Also it looks like it is more ecofriendly when compared to that of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible and the Mercedes Benz AMG S65 Cabriolet.

Ride and Handling

The 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante has a few more enhancements other than the engine power. It includes a firmer suspension and adaptive dampers that give you a smooth ride on all types of tracks. It is also equipped with Adaptive Drive Recognition System that recognizes your driving style and pattern and starts following that pattern over a period of time. Also it comes in three modes namely, the Cruise, the Sport and the Track modes.

The Vanquish S Volante, is heavy even after have a carbon fiber infused into its body. However, its grippy and smooth ride on the road is very impressive, though it can't perfectly carve out in a corner. On the other hand it being a convertible makes the roar clearly audible giving you the feel of riding a Super GT.

Braking

The Vanquish S Volante comes with the standard carbon ceramic brakes. These brakes sized 15.7 inches in the front and 14.2 inches in the back looks quite sufficient to stop this car without heavy jerks.

Although the braking performance of all the three competitors is not available, looking at the weight and the brake sizes, the Vanquish S Volante can be considered quite a performer on par with that of the AMG S 65. However we cannot judge it with the braking performance of the Bentley as it consists of Iron brakes which are considered to give a better bite than that of the carbon ceramic brakes available in the S65 and the Vanquish.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Fuel Economy

5.7/10

The 2018 Vanquish S Volante even with its enhanced performance, still maintains its thirst on par to its predecessor i.e., the 2017 Vanquish Volante. It gives a mileage of 13 MPG in the city and 21MPG on the highway. On an average it gives a mileage of 16 MPG.

It is thirsty but not as thirsty as its competitors. Although the AMG S 65 runs an extra mile in the city, however their average remains the same. On the other hand, the Bentley seems to be the thirstier one compared to both its competitors.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Interior

5.7/10

The Aston Martin has never compromised with the luxury. It has always made its interiors luxury rich and this Super Grand Tourer turns out to be more luxurious than ever with the new  badge embedded to it. However if you don't feel comfortable despite all the luxury, you can always customize your Vanquish S Volante as you want to be.

Seating and Comfort

Looks like the compact size of the Vanquish S Volante shows its side effect on the interior space. However the front passengers still get to enjoy a head room of 36.2 inches, shoulder room of 54.8 inches and a leg room of 42.7 inches. Regarding the rear seats, thought the dimensions are not available, all we can say is that they are quite tightly packed like that in all the other 2 door coupes of the Aston Martin stable mates.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Competition

Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante vs Bentley Continental GT Convertible

The 2018 Bentley Continental GT comes with a W12 engine with a power on par with the Naturally Aspirated V12 of the Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante. It still lags behind as a performer due to its heavy body. Still it calms to be more spacious and luxurious than the Aston Martin.

So if you yearn for the luxury you can go for the Bentley at a cheaper rate by compromising with the performance. But if you crave for the power-packed performance and aggression, then the Vanquish S Volante just turns out to bet what you crave for.

Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante vs Mercedes Benz AMG S 65 Cabriolet

The 2018 Mercedes Benz AMG S 65 Cabriolet is the most powerful Cabriolet of the Mercedes S- Class and comes with its much powerful bi turbo V12 engine turns out to be a tough competition for the Vanquish S Volante. It is also more spacious and luxurious in both the Front and the back. But don't get tempted by the low price yet.

The 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible turns out to be the last of its kind with the Naturally Aspirated V12 engine. So the engineers have built it in such a way that it leaves with a statement by giving a tough competition to the AMG Biturbo engine that it is being replaced with in the new models. So every penny spent on this Beast might make you feel the worth while riding it. However if all you want is worth for what you pay and get tempted for a lesser price, you can always go for the AMG S 65 Cabriolet.

2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Convertible Final Verdict

After taking a look at the competitors, the 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante although gives a cut throat competition, still feels like pretty expensive for the space and luxuries it offers. Also it's not so abundant with advanced safety features.

However it being the last one of its kind with the enhanced Naturally Aspirated V12, along with the Performance Class 'S' badging at just a $5000 more than its predecessor might make you reconsider to pick up this 'Brute in the Suit' for the higher price.
