2019 Audi A4 Features

The 2019 A4 is offered in three trims namely Premium, Premium Plus, and the Prestige. All the trims are powered by the same 2L Turbo Inline-4 engine, however, differ in their feature and specification set. While even the 2019 Audi A4 Premium trim comes packed with essential features like Xenon plus headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights with dynamic rear turn indicators, 40/20/40 rear seatbacks, and rearview camera, a plethora of user-friendly and rather essential features are made available to the buyer as one moves higher up the trim ladder. The midsize sedan falls in a price range that extends from $37,400 for the base trim to $46,200 for the top-tier Prestige variant.

Which Trim should you buy?

In our opinion, the best option among the available choices is the 2019 Audi A4 Prestige, as it packs all essential safety features which are absent on the Premium and the Premium Plus like Adaptive Cruise Control with Jam Assist, Traffic sign recognition, Active Lane Assist, and a Top View Camera. Customarily, the Prestige model is compatible with all the available packages which are unlikely for the lower models and though, it bears a higher price sticker, the utility and comfort one can derive out of it, makes it a viable proposition in the market.

2019 Audi A4 Engine and Performance

8.6/10

The 2019 Audi A4 is powered by a 2-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine mated to a 7-Speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. This duo generates 188 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. It also comes in a different tune that produces 248 hp and 273lb-ft of torque. The 2L Turbo engine despite being less powerful than its competitors pushes the car to reach 60 mph from rest in just 7.1 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in 15.6 seconds.

You’ll find the power to be on the lower side in the base variant which explains the sluggish and slow acceleration. However, the engine feels smooth and inviting despite being sloppy in terms of power. The engine offers just enough power to be a daily driver. Though the power is not inclined towards performance-based activities, it can be a great sedan for families for the admirable efficient mileage it offers.

Let’s talk about the pricing first, the 2019 Jaguar XE is priced at $39,495, whereas the 2019 C-Class being the most expensive at $43,400. In terms of performance, the A4 40 TFSI engine has the lowest power, while the BMW being on the higher side averaging 255hp and 295lb.-ft of torque, and is the quickest in the segment clocking 5.2 seconds when sprinting from 0 to 60 mph. While each sedan in the segment makes use of a turbocharged inline-4 unit, the Mercedes-Benz is distinguished by its 9-speed automatic transmission. It is the slowest in the segment and alongside the Jaguar takes 6.2 and 14.7 seconds in the acceleration and quarter-mile sprints.

How well does the 2019 Audi A4 Sedan handle?

One of the best qualities of the car that makes it a widely preferred sedan is the precise and smooth handling it offers. The 2019 A4 offers quite a dynamic driving experience with well-mannered body motions. It's balanced, composed, and offers light steering which makes it easy to drive in city conditions. Moreover, the Audi Pre-sense city with Traffic sign recognition comes in handy in the traffic, which makes maneuvering the car less challenging.

The car comes fitted with capable suspensions which offer a stabilized and enhanced driving experience. The Audi Drive Select offers a variety of driving modes that can be selected according to driving conditions and can be adjusted to cater to the off-roading requirements. It performs exceptionally well in bad road conditions and merits a comfortable drive.

Braking Performance

2019 Audi A4 comes equipped with a 12.4-inch Ventilated front disc and 11.8-inch rear disc brake programmed with ABS, EBD, and Emergency Brake Assist. The brakes feel responsive and offer a smooth slowdown. The capable disc brake rotors aid it to come to a stop from 60 mph in less than 120 feet. Considering the hefty curb weight of the sedan the brakes perform exceptionally.

Evident from the data, the 2019 A4 offers the best braking potential. On the other hand, the 2019 XE offers admirable brakes with large enough rotors measuring 13.8 and 12.8 inches, respectively, making the hefty 3545-pound car come to stop at 123 feet. While the 2019 BMW 3-Series comes fitted with smaller brakes and is a heavier vehicle, its halting distance is similar to the Jaguar, while the 2019 C-Class continues to lurk at the bottom of the table.

2019 Audi A4 Fuel Economy

7.9/10

In the performance section, we spoke about how underpowered the engine is which motivated the sloppy acceleration and compromised the sprinting abilities of the car. But, what if we told you that there is a bright side to the underpowered engine. The engine, despite being sluggish in performance, merits efficiency. The sedan returns 27/34/30 in city/highway/combined efficiency figures and to be honest and lenient, it does create an uncomfortable atmosphere for its rivals.

The exemplary efficient numbers make the A4 stand in altars and thus make it one of the most practical and preferred sedans in the market. However, with a rather smaller tank that can only hold 15.3 gallons of fuel, the Audi sedan loses out on the range and falls to the bottom of the table managing 351, 520, and 413 miles in the city, highway, and combined.

Equate its efficiency with its fuel tank and it covers the maximum combined range of 468 miles. While on the face of it, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class might seem to be the least efficient averaging 26 MPG, however, it sports the largest and most-voluminous tank that can hold 17.4-gallons which makes it a better option amongst its competitors.

2019 Audi A4 Competition

9.1/10

2019 Audi A4 vs 2019 Mercedes-Benz C300

There are places where both cars shine. The Audi costs significantly lower than the Benz, it offers better mileage figures, spacious cabin accommodation, better trunk space than the latter. Most importantly, the car performs brightly in braking where the latter struggles. However, the Benz comes equipped with a more powerful engine, accelerates better, has a bigger fuel tank, and offers more features than the A4. In terms of practicality, the A4 enjoys an edge, as it is priced well and has important features like the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

2019 Audi A4 vs 2019 BMW 3-Series

The BMW 3-series seems to be a clear winner here. Priced at $40,250, it offers better value than the latter. The sleek cabin with handsome looks, loaded features, latest safety measures, better mileage, and a large trunk make it stand taller than the A4. However, it trails in braking performance and passenger volume. Nevertheless, the majority always wins, so does the BMW here.

2019 Audi A4 vs 2019 Jaguar XE

Both, the 2019 Audi A4 and Jaguar XE offer a similar value and have a neck-to-neck conflict. The advantages of buying the A4 lies in the better engine performance, better-looking and practically built cabin, passenger volume, ground clearance, trunk space, and braking performance. However, the Jaguar XE is priced lower than the latter. The exterior design looks futuristic, it offers the biggest brake rotors and provides a wide wheelbase resulting in better maneuverability. But in terms of practicality, the A4 wins because it offers better value and better in-car features.

2019 Audi A4 Final Verdict

8.1/10

The 2019 Audi A4 is one of the best sedans you can purchase in the $40,000 segment. It offers adequate power to propel through daily life and perform everyday tasks. The exterior design looks not only iconic but visually pleasing. Along with the spacious, comfortable, and feature-packed cabin, it’s hard to look away from it. The car offers excellent mileage and has exemplary brakes. Moreover, there is a vast amount of options to decorate the car. While its engine isn’t the most powerful, if you are looking for a premium sedan that can embrace your daily life, the A4 is worth going for.
