Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The 2020 Audi A7 offers a mesmerizing design, not just on the outside but on the inside too. This car is loaded with all the premium features and luxury to give the competition a run for their money. The turbocharged 3.0-liter TFSI motor along with the famous Quattro makes this car very capable, both on the city roads or for an enthusiastic drive through the country roads. Coming onto the updates that have been brought in, the Premium trim now gets a heated steering wheel as standard, whereas the Premium Plus trim has an Audi's Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster as standard. Moreover, with the added safety features on offer, the 2020 A7 competes with the likes of the Mercedes Benz CLS 450, and the Maserati Ghibli sedan.

2020 Audi A7 Features

The 2020 Audi A7 comes in over three trims, Premium, Premium Plus, and the Prestige. Starting off at an MSRP of $69,000, all three trims are powered by the same turbocharged engine. The feature list as such increases in its premium factor, as you go up the trim table. The Premium Plus is priced at $73,600 and the Prestige is at $79,900 which makes it the most value for money option amongst the competition. Furthermore, there are plenty of packages too on offer with the 2020 A7.

2020 Audi A7 Engine and Performance

Quick, smooth, agile, the 2020 Audi A7 is a polished ride. -Car Connection

The 2020 Audi A7 comes with a 3.0-liter TFSI 6 cylinder engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The motor produces 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque which is very much on the lower side when compared to its competition but it procures the most value for its price. The 2020 A7 is a fast car, as it does the 0-60 MPH sprint in just about 5.2 seconds, but it lacks just a tad bit amongst the competition. The A7 is slower than the Merc but only slightly while it's faster than the Maserati from 0-60 MPH. The quarter-mile time though is quite impressive as the 2020 A7 is the fastest of the lot.

The A7 is the best Audi has to offer. The power produced by the V6 under the hood is distributed to all four wheels by Audi's Quattro system, which is among the best AWD systems, if not the best in the world. Thus, this car always has great traction irrespective of the road condition. The sloping roofline also ensures that the center of gravity is low. Therefore, the body rollover is minimal and you will be able to approach turns at higher speeds with confidence.

The overall ride quality is very composed. The 2020 A7 comes with 5 drive modes; Efficiency, Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual. The Dynamic mode makes this car very sporty and agile. The Audi A7 comes with 14.0 inches diameter front brakes and 13.0 inches rear brakes which are fairly large for a vehicle and are clearly better than the rest of the competition. The 60-0 MPH distance is 109 ft. which is worse than the German counterpart. Overall, the Audi does not surprise us with extraordinary numbers but performs average.

2020 Audi A7 Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is where the 2020 Audi A7 performs better than most of the competition with a city mileage of 22 MPG, highway mileage of 29 MPG, and combined mileage of 24 MPG. This is aided by the 48-volt mild hybrid system, that uses brake energy regeneration for proper fuel efficiency. The A7 also has the start/ stop system in place for better frugality. Now despite the A7 having the smallest 19.3-gallon fuel tank amongst the other rivals, it can still stretch out to 560 miles on the go, between fuel stops.

The figures are far better than the new performance-oriented Audi S7, which is EPA-rated at 18 MPG in the city and 28 miles to the gallon out on the highway. In terms of competition, the Mercedes CLS-Class is a slightly more economical car than the Audi.

2020 Audi A7 Interior

The 2020 Audi A7's cabin boasts high-quality materials, bristles with technology, and offers real cargo utility. -Car Connection

The 2020 Audi A7 is a luxurious and comfortable car that can seat 4 persons. The car is quite spacious with its 105.8 cubic feet of passenger volume. However, the headroom on the Maserati is slightly better. The Ghibli is the winner here as it's a bigger car and comes with roomier interiors. The Audi is still not very far behind. The interiors are loaded with all the latest technology which is expected from a car like this.

The comfort features for the passengers include leather seats, eight-way adjustable power front seats with four-way power-adjustable driver lumbar support, heated front seats, driver seat memory, and split-folding rear seats. It also has four-zone automatic climate control for the comfort of every passenger. The natural wood inlays, sunroof, and ambient interior LED lights also give the Audi a comfortable and luxurious touch.

The Audi is flooded with infotainment technology with the MMI navigation plus with voice control, MMI touch with handwriting recognition, premium Bang & Olufsen surround sound system with 16 speakers, 7-Inch color driver information system, Bluetooth connectivity, Audi connect and the list goes on. The storage space in the Audi A7 is 24.5 cubic feet which is quite impressive. The trunk space in Audi is better than the rest of the rivals.

2020 Audi A7 Exterior

An evolutionary, sharper-creased take on the A7's signature tapered roof creates a sexy exterior, while the 2020 A7's interior combines technology with luxury. -Car Connection

The 2020 Audi A7 is a large vehicle but is equally beautiful with its long hood, sweeping roofline, and well carved and elegant Audi looks. The dimensions of the Audi are not radically different from the competition but the Maserati is about 1.5 inches higher which will give it a better headroom. The ground clearance, however, is the least at just 4.4 inches which can definitely make you look out for any potholes.

The Audi is designed as a masterpiece and will definitely make you fall in love with its looks. The car comes with all-LED headlamps and tail lamps, a beautiful roofline making it look almost like a coupe, and a simple yet elegant design. Having said that, Audi still majorly follows the same exterior silhouette that the previous iterations had going for it, which is great, as it was highly adored by the masses.

2020 Audi A7 Competition

2020 Audi A7 vs 2020 Merceded Benz CLS-Class

The Mercedes Benz CLS Class is amongst the leading cars in this segment which can also be attributed to its German pedigree. The Mercedes offering is the best car in the lot in terms of performance but is a bit expensive than others. It also doesn't perform wonders when it comes to other aspects like spaciousness, fuel economy and trunk volume.

The Mercedes CLS-Class is also a beautiful car to look at, thanks to its elegant curvy lines and swooping roofline just like the Audi. It is very difficult to decide which one looks better and that choice can be left to the individual.

2020 Audi A7 vs 2020 Maserati Ghibli

The Maserati Ghibli is undoubtedly one of the best GT cars in the market, but it feels quite overpriced as compared to the competition. It is not the fastest or the most spacious car in the lot. Although it is certainly heavenly to look at, and is most definitely supremely loud, which is the ultimate duo when it comes to these cars.

It also proves better in terms of spaciousness because of its high stance and expansive exteriors. Although in terms of trunk space, it is the Audi A7 all the way through.

2020 Audi A7 Final Verdict

The 2020 Audi A7 is definitely a desirable car whether you take the exteriors or the interiors into consideration. Except for being a little down on performance when compared to its tough competitors like the Mercedes CLS-Class, it is very difficult to find any flaws in the Audi A7. The A7 is perfect from luxury to performance and from design to capability. What makes the Audi A7 a potential threat to the other cars in the segment is the price tag. The Audi costs less than its German counterparts, but it has similar capabilities. So, all-in-all the best choice would be the 2020 Audi A7.
