The 2022 Audi A7 is to launch for sale in Fall 2021 in the same 3 trims- Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige for a starting price of $70,000. An extra $1,045 is levied on top of the destination fee. Packed with a luxurious and tech-backed interior, the base trim gets the bigger infotainment system as standard this year. Furthermore, for all the trim levels, a 21-inch alloy wheel package is also available as optional.

Powering up this Sportback is a 335 hp 3L turbocharged V6 as standard and allows the 2022 A7 to post a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds. For lesser performance and more fuel frugality, the 2022 Audi A7 PHEV is also available with a 335 hp 2L turbo I-4 with an electric motor that offers 62 MPGe. With its unique build, the 2022 Audi A7 faces competition from the likes of the Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, and the Mercedes Benz CLS Class.

The 2022 Audi A7 remains unchanged in terms of specs, however, offers more features. All set to start from an MSRP of $69,200, you get the same three trim levels, Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige with the Premium trim getting the bigger infotainment system as standard. Pegged for release in Fall 2021, it will also offer an optional 21-inch alloy wheel package across the trim level.

Powered by a 335 hp 3L turbocharged V6 engine, the 2022 Audi A7 sprints from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. However, if you want a more fuel-efficient approach with the same moniker, you can pick up the A7 PHEV which can offer up to 62 MPGe. If that does not satiate your thirst for performance, you can spring for the 444 hp S7 or the monstrous 591 hp RS 7.

2022 Audi A7 Buying Advice

8.0/10

From the available trim levels, we recommend the Premium Plus trim which is approximately $8,000 costlier than the base trim but adds lots of value for it. You get features like LED taillights, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit plus, 360-degree surround-view camera, premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, and added tech features which make it well worth the upgrade.

2022 Audi A7 Features

7.0/10

More standard features are on tap for the 2022 A7 base Premium trim level.- Edmunds

2022 Audi A7 Engine and Performance

8.0/10

During everyday driving, we appreciated the Audi's effortless quickness.- Car And Driver

Under the hood, the 2022 Audi A7 gets a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine that came as standard last year. This engine has been primed enough to churn out 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque at its best. For those who want more power, the Audi S7 is available with the 444 hp 2.9L twin-turbo V6 engine for 85 grand. And if even that does not satiate you, you can spend north of 100 grand to purchase the monstrous 591 hp RS 7 with the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine behind the menacing grille.

For the sensible side of things, Audi also offers the A7 as a PHEV model. The 2022 Audi A7 PHEV gets a 2.0L engine coupled with an electric motor that offers 335 hp along with a combined fuel economy of 62 MPGe. The conventional A7 and the A7 PHEV are coupled to a 7-speed automatic transmission while the S7 and the RS 7 get the 8-speed DCT transmission. Irrespective of the model you buy, the A7 Sportback offers a serene driving experience both for the driven and the driver.

While the Audi RS 7 is the one for performance with a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, the 2022 Audi A7 is no joke either. While it packs fewer horses under the hood, the drive modes allow you to tap into the full potential of the Sportback. Put it in sport mode, and the 2022 A7 can complete the 0-60 mph sprint in 5.2 seconds while the quarter-mile comes up in 13.5 seconds. While it is clocked at a top speed of 130 MPH, the performance is enough for a daily driver.

If you compare in terms of on-paper specs, the Mercedes Benz CLS Class takes the cake with the most power and the best performance in acceleration. The Porsche Panamera is the costliest ride but is also the most driver-centric, however, offers the least power and torque combo. The BMW 7 Series is almost in line with the Porsche in terms of cost but is the slowest car in accelerating off the line. The Audi A7 strikes the perfect balance between performance and price.

2022 Audi A7 Fuel Economy

6.0/10

The 48V mild hybrid unit powers a belt-alternator starter used primarily for the A7’s fuel-saving automatic start/stop system.- KBB

Though the 2022 Audi A7 gets tech and styling features added, the scenery under the hood remains the same. Hence, you get the same MPG figures as 2021 A7. You get 22 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 24 MPG combined, which is decent enough for a ride of this stature. For anything better than these figures, the A7 PHEV is the one to spring for.

The fuel tank capacity is surprisingly on the smaller side at 19.3-gallons. So, even at full capacity, you can get an overall driving range of 463 miles. If you went all in and bought the beastly RS 7, then this driving range drops to 328 miles. However, the A7 PHEV offers 68 MPGe combined which is a bonus treat for many.

Though the Audi A7 tries hard to be fuel-efficient, it falls slightly short with its MPG figures. The CLS Class and the Porsche Panamera vie for the top spot with the best fuel economy. However, the Panamera inches ahead slightly owing to the biggest fuel tank capacity in the lot. The Bimmer surprisingly drops to third place with its MPG figures.

2022 Audi A7 Interior

8.0/10

Thanks to its fastback shape, the A7 has a good amount of cargo room.- MotorTrend

Audi is known for its spacious and sumptuous interiors, and the 2022 Audi A7 sedan doesn't miss out on the brand’s reputation. The interior materials are of high quality and offer a soft touch. You also get leather upholstery right from the base trim which gets upgraded to Nappa leather upholstery as you move up the trim levels. Being a top-tier Sportback, it also offers comfortable seating space for 5 passengers.

2022 Audi A7 Interior

The front is spacious and the seats get power adjustability and heating, while the rear is also roomy. However, the fastback roofline eats into the headroom slightly which can cause a slight discomfort for the tall fellas. To keep things practical, the 2022 Audi A7 also offers a cargo space of 24.9 cu-ft which is more than enough to carry a set of golf clubs and a few medium-sized suitcases with ease.

The Porsche Panamera keeps its interior dimensions hidden but is comfortably roomy. The Audi A7 is one of the roomiest cars in the lineup, however, the BMW 7 Series takes the cake. The CLS Class shoves most of the space in the front, and less in the back. Furthermore, it comes with the smallest cargo bay. In terms of driver entertainment, the 2022 Audi A7 gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard.

2022 Audi A7 Sedan infotainment screen

You also get the 12.3-inch virtual cockpit digital driver display. The biggest upgrade this year is the addition of the bigger infotainment screen as standard in the base Premium trim as well. The lower 8.6-inch touchscreen houses function for in-vehicular features like climate control, etc. You also get connectivity techs like Bluetooth, 4G LTE WiFi, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Some of the notable interior and infotainment features are:

  • 12.3-inch digital driver display
  • 10.1-inch upper and 8,6-inch lower touchscreen infotainment system
  • Power adjustable seats with heating and ventilation
  • Multifunction steering wheel with power adjustment
  • Leather upholstery on seats and steering wheel
  • Head-up display with navigation information
  • Amazon Alexa integration
  • Audi smartphone interface with wireless Apple Carplay and Google Android Auto
  • 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System

2022 Audi A7 Exterior

8.0/10

The Audi A7 heaps luxury into a svelte shape like a great tuxedo.- The Car Connection

Looking at the Audi A7, it is a general walk away from the conventional body of a sedan or a Sportback. The 2022 A7 will continue on that trend in its own way. You get a long hood that ends at an aggressively designed grille and lower lip. The grille is accented by the LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Though it might seem like a cross between the A6 and A8, the overall demeanor is quite distinct on its own.

The side stance is quite sporty, with a smooth roofline flowing to the rear. For a more imposing look, the Black edition offers black accents in place of chrome. The change for this year includes the 21-inch alloy wheel package being added as an option for all trim levels. So, dub wheels, for a long saloon which equal badass bragging rights.

While it may not like it, but the Audi A7 is actually the heftiest one of the lot whilst offering the smallest wheelbase and lowest ground clearance. The BMW 7 Series is the purist full-size saloon with its large dimensions. The CLS-Class is also part of the A7's fastback body club but actually is the lightest one. The Panamera might seem like the oddball as its fits between the A7 and the 7 Series with its dimensions.

2022 Audi A7 Safety

8.0/10

The A7's driver aids are generally very good.- Edmunds

Redesigned in 2019, there are no structural changes happening for the 2022 Audi A7. Hence, the safety ratings from 2021 MY can suffice. The 2021 Audi A7 was not crash-tested by the NHTSA and hence does not have any ratings from them. However, the IIHS crash-tested it and awarded it an overall "Good" rating along with calling it the Top Safety Pick+.

Though Audi has never been lauded enough for its safety tech as BMW, the automaker has proven that it is no less than its competitors. The 2022 Audi A7 leaves no stone unturned to keep its passengers safe, and that shows in the elaborate safety suite you get. Furthermore, rear side-impact airbags are now standard. Other highlighting safety features are:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control
  • Side Impact Beams
  • Dual Stage Driver And Passenger Seat-Mounted Side Airbags
  • Front And Rear Parking Sensors
  • Audi pre sense front

2022 Audi A7 Competition

7.0/10

2022 Audi A7 vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class

The 2022 Mercedes Benz CLS Class is one of the most controversial yet stylish coupe fastbacks from the automaker. While its exterior has a love it or hate it vibe, the interior is actually quite luxurious and practical. Add to that the engine has more power and allows the car to have better performance whilst maintaining better MPG figures, the extra 5 grand in the price tag do not seem like too much of a stretch. The Audi A7 on the other hand offers more space in the interior, and a better cargo capacity, and a more aggressive exterior design.

2022 Audi A7 vs 2022 BMW 7 Series

The 2022 BMW 7 Series is the quintessential baller saloon that shouts power, luxury, and status. It is packed with one of the most spacious, tech-friendly, and comfortable interiors in the segment. The engine is tuned for refined performance than all-out acceleration, and hence the MPG figures are also better than the Audi A7. It also gets the full force of the best of BMW safety tech as well. However, it demands almost 18 grand more than the Audi A7. Hence, it boils down to brand preference here.

2022 Audi A7 vs 2022 Porsche Panamera

The 2022 Porsche Panamera is the corporate cousin to the Audi A7 and yet finds a distinct place in the car world. Compared to the Audi, the Panamera is less powerful but more fuel-efficient. The interior is also more spacious than the A7, however, you get seating for 4 people only. While it doesn't look as radical and aggressive as the A7, it definitely stands out with its Porsche styling. Furthermore, owing to its Stuttgart roots, the Panamera is still a driver's car. However, among the two, the Audi A7 would be the better option.

2022 Audi A7 Final Verdict

8.0/10

The 2022 Audi A7 adds more features as standard to the base trim with a slight bump in the price. It is more tech-friendly, stylish, and family-friendly for 2022 from what it has been since 2019. Backed with a spacious interior, distinct body, and overall demeanor, it is a perfect ride for the family man with an underlying sporty side. Hence, we would definitely recommend buying the 2022 Audi A7.
