The 2020 Audi E-Tron SUV comes with no major changes this year for the crossover body style instead it adds an all-new E-Tron Sportback to its lineup and both of them together constitute the best-looking cars in the EV segment. Sitting right between the Audi Q5 and the bigger Q7, the E-Tron is Audi's all-electric SUV that boasts 200 plus miles of range and a 0-60 mph time of slightly above five seconds. In addition to this, the 2020 E-Tron also gets a long list of creature comforts along with impressive build quality. Also, it packs in some of the advanced safety and tech features that are yet to be seen even on its direct rivals like Tesla.

The 2020 Audi E-Tron simply put is a smaller Q7 with an all-electric powertrain. That means it has all the luxury, cabin space, and practicality of a typical SUV while at the same time is gentle on mother nature. Even after all these positive aspects the E-Tron isn't without its set of disadvantages and one of the major ones is its limited charging stations but with VW’s Electrify America in full swing, this drawback is soon going to be taken care of. While more on the other disadvantages we will talk about in the latter part of this review. That being said, for this review of the 2020 Audi E-Tron, we have compared it with the likes of the 2020 Tesla Model X and the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace.
Features
The Audi E-Tron is offered in two body styles- SUV and Sportback and both come in two trim levels- Premium Plus and Prestige. For 2020 the E-Tron has added the Sportback model while the SUV will be a carryover from 2019. Coming to the trims on offer both of them are stacked to the brim with features. The base trim is more than adequate if you look at the features on offer while going for the Prestige trim is only for the sake of a more luxurious cabin and better creature comfort features.
Other than the standard features on offer there is a couple of optional packages worth looking at. The optional Driver Assistance Package can be had on to add traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. While the Cold Weather package adds heated rear seats, heated washer jets, and a heated steering wheel. The former is available on the Premium Plus trim while the latter is on the Prestige trim.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10
"There are no histrionics in how the E-Tron accelerates. Its single-speed automatic is unobtrusive and eager to engage, even from a standstill. The only real issue is that it's so much slower than its competitors." -motor1.com
The 2020 Audi E-Tron gets a dual asynchronous electric motor setup that delivers a combined output of 355 hp. The peak torque output stands at 414 lb-ft. A single-speed gearbox comes as standard with the vehicle. Since you get two motors, one for the front wheels and one for the rear wheels, power is channeled to all four wheels essentially making it an electric AWD. Also, there is a Sport mode in the E-Tron which when activated unlocks 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque but is limited to brief spells.
2020 Audi E-Tron Front Trunk
Being an EV, the E-Tron offers an advantage of quick acceleration right off the bat. The 2020 E-Tron is capable of covering 0-60 MPH in just 5.5 seconds and a quarter-mile drag in 13.8 seconds. The electric motor setup tops out at 124 mph. Apart from this, the E-Tron when engaged in the Sport mode provides an 8-second power boost that pushes this vehicle to hit 0-60 MPH in just 5.3 seconds.
2020 Audi E-Tron Driving View
The ride quality of the Audi E-Tron is plush and the handling matches the Audi standard. This means it remains planted on the roads at all times despite being heavy and there is almost negligible body roll. The vehicle comes equipped with an adaptive suspension setup that helps it deliver a comfortable driving experience soaking up all the undulations with ease.
2020 Audi E-Tron Wheel Design & Brake
The steering wheel is well-weighted and responsive thus offering a more connected feel while driving. The standard 20-inch wheels are decent but opting for bigger wheels makes the ride stiff. With a curb weight of 5754 lbs, the E-Tron also happens to be one of the heaviest cars in the segment. Despite being heavy, the vehicle stops from 60-0 MPH in just 128 feet which is impressive.

The 2020 Audi E-Tron may be a powerful SUV but is overpowered by the likes of the Model X and the I-Pace when it comes to acceleration timings. The Tesla is the quickest to 60 MPH beating the E-Tron by a margin of 0.9 seconds while the I-Pace came a close second being one-tenth of a second slower than the Model X. And if we talk about the price to performance then surely the Jaguar I-Pace wins the bet hands down as it is slightly slower than the Model X but undercuts it by as much as ten grands.
Fuel Economy
8.0/10
The 2020 Audi E-Tron offers a decent range on a single charge. The vehicle delivers 76 MPGe in the city and 78 MPGe on the highway. The combined MPGe happens to be 77. With a standard, 95-kWh battery on board, it offers a decent 218 miles of driving range.
You can recharge the vehicle using a 240-volt outlet at home or using a Level 2 charging station. Level 2 DC Charger takes about nine hours to juice up the battery from 0 to 100 percent. Apart from this, Volkswagen’s Electrify America initiative offers a Level 3 DC Charger that can get the battery charge from 0 to 80% in 30 minutes.

The 2020 Audi E-Tron offers a decent range of 218 miles but, relatively, the Tesla Model X provides the highest range while the vast Supercharger network ensures that people aren’t struck with range anxiety while on their drive. Lastly, the Jaguar I-Pace also offers more range than the Audi E-Tron, and that too combined with better performance.
Interior
8.0/10
"The e-tron's most impressive technology is its electrified systems, but the five-seat crossover also has a cutting-edge and practical cabin." -caranddriver.com
The interiors of the 2020 Audi E-Tron not only look premium but are also well put together, the fit and finish levels are impressive and the overall cabin design is a fresh look compared to other Audi cars. The front seats offer excellent support and are extremely comfortable. While the seats offer a perfect driving position, the overall visibility is not great and could have been better. Having said that, the dashboard gets premium and soft-to-touch material and there is no dearth of features and equipment inside the cabin.
2020 Audi E-Tron Dashboard
The 2020 E-Tron gets the latest Audi Virtual cockpit and comes equipped with multiple screens inside the cabin. The instrument console too is fully digital and the driver can access almost all the information regarding the vehicle on these digital screens. The E-Tron also gets a dual-screen infotainment system that includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a secondary 8.8-inch touchscreen. This infotainment system gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Audi Connect, Audi Pre Sense, and satellite radio as standard.
2020 Audi E-Tron Infotainment System
The system is feature-packed but a slightly responsive and faster touch response could have taken the experience to next level. For your music needs, you get a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo as standard. While speaking of practicality, the E-Tron offers 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space at the rear. With the rear seat folded the cargo capacity increases to 57 cubic feet which is more than generous for an SUV this size. While at the front there is small storage given to keep your charging cables.

On paper, the Tesla has the most spacious front row while the rear row feels a bit cramped. That said, Audi’s cabin is the most well-sorted one of all the crossovers here, and the trunk capacity one-ups all the other in terms of storage as well. As for the Jaguar I-Pace, it offers a decent amount of space in the front seats but the rear is cramped and the cargo space is the least among the three here.

"Credit to Audi for building an EV without feeling the need to figuratively shout it from the rooftop with some extreme piece of design." -motor1.com
The 2020 Audi E-Tron boasts an impressive exterior design and a dominating front fascia. The car is also offered with LED headlights and taillights that look great and also offer impressive illumination at night. In addition to this, the 2020 E-Tron also gets a Sportback model which has a really good-looking side profile and the optional 21-inch alloy wheels accentuate the overall look of the E-Tron.

The rear fascia too falls in line with the overall futuristic design language. Apart from this, the car gets sporty splitters, a rear spoiler, and several other elements that make it look extremely aggressive. You also get an adaptive suspension, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, and 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.

The Tesla Model X is a bit larger than the rest and that explains its impressive interior space while the Jaguar I-Pace is the smallest vehicle of the lot and its compact nature translates to an easier driving experience in busy traffic and tight spaces. The 2020 Audi E-Tron boasts a strong road presence and the dimensions too are at par with the segment standards but it being the heaviest among all offer lesser range and slower acceleration figures.
The 2020 Audi E-Tron is a well-built car that is significantly safer when compared to its rivals because it gets a heavily reinforced cabin which helps in reducing the injuries in case of a crash. The 2020 E-Tron scored five out of five-star overall safety ratings in the NHTSA tests while it also scored 'Good' ratings in almost all the safety parameters in tests conducted by IIHS. The 2020 Audi E-Tron also received the 'Top Safety Pick+' award from IIHS.
The Tesla Model X is one of the best-selling cars in the segment and boasts impressive acceleration timings along with a longer range. The cabin is the best-suited for minimalists while the overall quality of the vehicle needs improvement. The E-Tron being an Audi triumph on this aspect with impeccable fit and finish levels and a luxurious appeal. On the inside, both the Model X and the E-Tron offer a spacious cabin but the cargo space is better on the E-Tron.
2020 Tesla Model X Driving View
While looks may be subjective but in all sense, the Model X will never appeal to you as a crossover or SUV making it a misfit when on the road while the E-Tron slots in easily between the regular gas-powered vehicle. So if you are looking for exclusivity, seat pinning acceleration, and longer range then only go for the Model X. While those who love comfort, fit and finish levels, and safety should consider the E-Tron.
2020 Audi E-Tron vs 2020 Jaguar I-Pace
The Jaguar I-Pace is one of the latest offerings in the brand’s line-up and gets a super attractive exterior design along with a premium and well-built cabin. Yet, the E-Tron feels like a much better proposition because of the refinement and sure-footed handling, along with a much wider appeal. The I-Pace on the other hand in terms of price undercuts the E-Tron by a couple of grands and yet offer better performance and range.
2020 Jaguar I-Pace Driving View
The range and performance are something that's very hard to compromise on an EV. But what's equally important is the cabin and cargo space where the I-Pace falls behind the E-Tron. Thus for a slight compromise on performance and range, the E-Tron is a better pick. In case you don't usually need the rear seats then the I-Pace could be a cheaper and faster option without compromise on luxury and quality.
Final Verdict
The 2020 Audi E-Tron is a well-built car and comes with a reliable powertrain in addition to an extremely premium and feature-rich cabin. Having said that, the 2020 E-Tron feels significantly more expensive for what it offers when you picture in the rivals. However, it does tend to offer a long list of safety features and a lot of premium creature comforts as standard which aren't a common sight in most of the rival brand's offerings. Thus as an early adopter, it is wise to stick with a trusted brand that has been making cars for decades even though some compromises in terms of range and performance are needed.
