If you shrunk Audi's mid-size Q8 SUV with a shrink ray, you'd get the 2022 Q3. Launched in 2015, the junior Audi SUV gives the strongest image of the brand's larger crossovers from its big octagonal grille to its sharply canted rear hatch. The Q3 will have an interior made out of finer material and has features like heated front seats, leather upholstery, and a black cloth headliner. The upcoming 2022 Audi Q3 is likely to be a carryover product of the current 2021 model. But what is expected to be new in the upcoming Q3 is the increased cabin space, optional hybrid powertrain, and an upgraded infotainment system.

Coming to its safety, the 2022 Audi Q3 is loaded with plenty of active safety features, and the highlighted ones are the Audi pre-sense system, hill descent control, lane departure warning. Moreover, crash test ratings are also quite appreciable. The sales figures significantly increased for its second generation, and the maximum sales were recorded in the year 2020 with 27,252 units sold. We expect that the sales will further get boosted once the 2022 model launches. The base trim of the 2022 Audi Q3 is estimated to cost about $35,000*, and the cost could reach up to $40,000*. It strongly competes with some cars like BMW X1Mercedes Benz GLA-Class, and the Volvo XC40.

*expected

After the 2019 major redesign in Q3, the chances of having big updates in 2022 are less. Therefore, the 2022 Audi Q3 trims are expected to carry over the interior, exterior, and safety features from the 2021 model year without any significant updates. There will be a Convenience package available for both trims, which could start at approximately $1,800 for the premium trim.

We Recommend

The trims do not have a huge price gap and also have the same warranty Period. But the Premium Plus trim still has the upper hand. With the addition of a few thousand dollars, you can have more features like adaptive cruise control, a navigation system, a hands-free power liftgate, and cross-traffic alert, and many more.

Price:

There is no official announcement from Audi, but the expected base price should be around $35,000, while the PHEV model can cost $10,000 extra.

Release Date:

The 2022 Audi Q3 does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is expected to reach dealerships in the summer of 2021.

2022 Audi Q3 Engine and Performance

The upcoming Q3 does not get any major exterior and interior tweaks, but its powertrain lineup may get a new hybrid option. The outgoing model of Q3 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Both Premium and Premium Plus trims are driven by AWD, which puts out 228 hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque from the engine. The 2.0L turbocharged engine is shared by all the competitors.

2022 Audi Q3 SUV engine bay

When equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged engine, Q3 hits 0-60mph in just 7.4 seconds, while clocking the quarter-mile lap in 15.7 seconds. It is not the quickest among the competition but looks fair considering its body weight. Rivals like XC40 have 6.2 and 14.8 seconds record for the 0-60mph and quarter-mile, respectively. The BMW X1 executes 0-60 mph in just 6.3 seconds, while the quarter-mile lap was covered in 14.9 seconds. Lastly, GLA 4MATIC manages to cross 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds and quarter miles in 15 seconds.

**expected price

The current Q3 feels agile, thanks to direct steering and a light-to-the-touch feel. Even though it is bulkier than fellow competitors, it provides excellent handling and a smooth drive. When thrown down a twisty lane, the small SUV moves with the same grace as its larger siblings. The same feedback can be expected from its upcoming model. As far as power is concerned, X1 brings out similar horsepower as Q3, while GLA 4MATIC gives out 221 hp. In the end, XC40 T5 Momentum produces the highest power, which accounts for 248 hp. If we focus on torque, Q3 and its rivals provide similar torque but at different rpm.

2022 Audi Q3 Fuel Economy

9.0/10

This key area of the Q3 might disappoint many buyers. The 2021 Q3 gives out 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on highways. Since Audi is going to place the same motor under the hood for the 2022 model, better efficiency cannot be anticipated, but we can hope for a more refined engine. The possibility of a new hybrid powertrain with better efficiency is expected for the year.

*2021 MY data was taken as a reference

The 2022 Q3 is proven to be the least efficient among the competitors, but with higher fuel capacity, a better range will be achieved than some competitors like GLA and XC40. GLA-Class provides better-combined fuel economy at 27 mpg combined, but its driving range takes a hit because of the smaller fuel tank. On the other hand, X1 seems to be enjoying not only the combined fuel economy of 26 mpg but also being crowned as the best range offering car among all the rivals. The 2021 X1 has a combined range of 419 miles, while Q3 only has a combined range of 398 miles only.

2022 Audi Q3 Interior

6.0/10

The 2022 Audi Q3 will have high-quality fabrics and a sharp and modern style. In general, the interior will be aesthetically very pleasant. The base variant features wooden accents and leather. Every design element is angular and sharp, denoting the futuristic design approach. A seating capacity of 5 provides enough comfortable space for the occupants. The SUV provides more headroom in the front row than GLA and XC40, but it lacks in the rear row. Q3’s shoulder room in the front row is the same as the XC60, but it is more than X1 and GLA.

2022 Audi Q3 SUV dashboard image

If we look at standard features, the 2022 Q3 will have cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and power mirrors. The center console is angled a bit towards the driver, which makes the cabin driver-centric, and it's better from an ergonomic point of view. Moreover, features like power tailgate, tri-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and wireless charging with a signal booster are likely to be set as a standard for the 2022 model.

The cargo capacity offered by the Q3 is 23.7 cubic feet, which is more than XC40 and GLA. But BMW X1 has taken first place for the largest cargo capacity with 27.1 cubic feet of space. GLA stands at the back with the least cargo capacity in the competition at 15.4 cubic feet, followed by XC40 offering 20.7 cubic feet of cargo space.

2022 Audi Q3 SUV front seats

In the current model, the 10.1’’ infotainment display, which is kept optional for higher trims, is now likely to be kept as standard. Furthermore, the outgoing Q3 has a digital cluster as standard, which can be replaced with the Audi virtual cockpit on higher trim levels. Wireless device charging and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system will most likely come as optional infotainment features. Highlights of the infotainment features are:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Satellite radio
  • Keyless entry
  • gesture-based controls and handwriting recognition
  • MMI system with 8.8" display
  • Wireless changing pad with signal booster

2022 Audi Q3 Exterior

7.0/10

The 2022 Audi Q3's exterior will be unmistakably sportier than ever. The Q3 draws inspiration from the awesome A4 sedan, which is kind of interesting! The frontal fascia usually looks the same with sharp LED headlights and an octagonal grille in one piece. An aggressive bold grille and a deeper front bumper give Q3 a very peculiar look, however, the 2022 Q3 is expected to be a carryover model, at least in terms of overall appearance.

2022 Audi Q3 SUV

The latest Q3 has wide wheel arches and regular 18-inch wheels. This time, we have an incorporated rear spoiler and sharper LED taillights on the rear. There won’t be any major changes to the shape of the trunk, therefore cargo capacity is expected to remain the same as the 2021 model. The SUV weighs 3,916 lbs and has a wheelbase of 105.5 inches.

After analyzing the above table, it can be assumed that the higher curb weight might be the leading factor for its lower fuel efficiency. Volvo is 2.4 inches wider and 1.2 inches taller than Q3, which makes it the widest and tallest SUV in the competition. The 2021 GLA-Class has the largest wheelbase, which translates into a better interior. Audi Q3 is the longest car with 176.6 inches in length as compared to its rivals. Some highlights of the exterior features are:

  • 235/55 R18 all-season tires
  • LED taillights with dynamic indicators
  • Panoramic Roof
  • Power-adjustable, heated exterior side mirrors
  • Tailgate roof spoiler

2022 Audi Q3 Safety

9.0/10

Since the 2022 model hasn’t been crash-tested by NHTSA and IIHS, we can speculate the ratings from its current model. The 2021 Q3 got an overall rating of 5 stars from NHTSA, but in the frontal crash and rollover resistance test, Q3 managed to get only 4 stars. Moreover, it received a ‘Good’ rating in all categories from IIHS. However, the 2021 Q3 was not bestowed with any special honors, unlike rivals like the 2021 XC40, which has a “Top Safety Pick+” title.

The outgoing model has a wide range of safety features, which are likely to be carried forward to its 2022 model. Some of its remarkable features include Audi pre-sense basic, Audi pre-sense front with pedestrian detection, Hill descent control, Traffic sign recognition, and numerous airbags. Some of the major safety features are given below:

  •  Lane departure warning
  • A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert
  • A tire-pressure monitoring system
  • Electronic stability program (ESP) with offroad mode
  • Anti-braking system to all four wheels
  • Auto-Leveling Headlights
  • Surround-view parking camera system

2022 Audi Q3 Competition

9.0/10

2022 Audi Q3 vS 2021 BMW X1

The BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 have very similar features and performance. However, the X1 is unquestionably more engaging to drive. Despite having the same engine displacement, the Q3 doesn’t satisfy the buyers with its fuel economy, which X1 manages to do well. However, Audi has an advantage in terms of price by being more than $2,000 cheaper than the 2021 X1.

2021 BMW X1

2022 Audi Q3 VS 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class

Even though Q3 and GLA have similar engine configurations, Q3 is ahead in terms of power. The cargo capacity of Q3 is significantly higher than GLA, making it a more likable choice for business owners and families. Audi Q3 has less combined fuel economy than GLA, but given that GLA has a smaller fuel tank, it blows away its fuel efficiency trump card, which GLA has against Q3 and other rivals.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class

2022 Audi Q3 VS 2022 Volvo XC40

The 2021 Volvo XC40 puts out more horsepower than the Q3. Also, its fuel economy is greater than Q3. But if Audi goes for its hybrid motor, then definitely Q3 will beat the rivals. The exterior of XC40 is equipped with minimal design elements, while Q3 is clustered with lots of sharp lines. The interior of the XC40 looks elegant too. Keeping all things aside, the 2022 Q3 falls short on safety evaluation by IIHS, while XC40 proves it with the ‘Top Safety Pick+’ award from IIHS.

2022 Volvo XC40

2022 Audi Q3 Final Verdict

With a huge facelift in its second generation, Audi's Q3 has become a more eye-catching model. The 2022 Q3 would most likely be a carryover, so drastic changes can’t be expected. However, a hybrid powertrain is on the cards for the 2022 model year. An upgraded infotainment system with a plethora of connected car features is expected to be standard in the upcoming model. The 2022 Audi Q3 would be a sensible option for anyone looking for a handsome, tech-laden luxury crossover at a comparatively low price tag.
