The 2011 Audi Q5 is one of the popular choices for buyers who are looking for a crossover SUV that fits all their practical requirements. Audi offers a decent-sized cabin with plenty of room for all 5 passengers, with seats that are the most comfortable in the segment. The rich and upscale Q5 interior gets a few feature updates for the year to the tune of HD Radio being added to the navigation system, while the 6-disc CD changer has been discontinued. This year, the Audi Q5 arrives with a starting price of MSRP $35,200 and is available in four trims: the 2.0T Premium, 2.0T Premium Plus, 3.2T Premium Plus, and 3.2T Prestige.

Having the same underpinnings as the proven A4 sedan, the Q5 benefits in many ways. The Q5 offers the versatility of an SUV, the driving dynamics of a sedan, and tons of features. Cargo Space abounds to a segment-best 29.1 cu. ft. Coming onto the refined and secluded cabin on offer, the 2011 Q5 offers a snug set up, while a bit of road noise does creep into the cabin, whereas the noise from the Q5's standard 2L inline-4 engine also does creep in. The 2011 Audi Q5 rivals the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, and Acura RDX.

2011 Audi Q5 Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

Audi is synonymous with luxury and sophistication. This is because this German automaker has provided buyers with not only fast but beautiful-looking vehicles inside and out. Just like Audi’s other cars, the 2011 Q5 comes packed with a meticulously crafted cabin. The dashboard design is innovative, yet very elegant and unorthodox. Additionally, Audi uses soft-touch plastics for an upmarket feel while the dashboard comes with genuine wood or brushed aluminum pieces.

It also features the largest infotainment display in the segment alongside intuitively placed control buttons and rotary knobs. On the driver's side, there's a leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Furthermore, the dashboard is slightly tilted towards the driver for better ergonomics. The cabin seats five passengers. Both the Q5 2.0T and 3.2 models come standard with leather seats available in cinnamon brown, cardamom beige, light gray, and black color options. As mentioned before, there are three decorative inlay options on offer as well.

The front comes equipped with twelve-way power-adjustable bucket seats for both the passenger and the driver. The bucket seats are logically designed to offer extra comfort and support for longer durations. Well, if that’s not enough, Audi offers some upmarket features like power-lumbar support, heating and cooling, under-thigh support, and memory settings for extended comfort. The rear seats are very comfortable and spacious as well. Thanks to the underpinnings of the A4, the Q5 benefits from excellent passenger room, smooth ride quality, and superb driving dynamics. All the trims come standard with noise cancellation as well. The cabin is quiet, but the sonorous V6’s roar is a treat to the ears at higher revs.

All the SUVs seat five passengers as standard. The Mercedes-Benz GLK has the largest cabin of all, however, the BMW X3 provides the most comfortable and spacious seats, despite having the smallest cabin. On the other hand, Audi has prioritized offering a larger cargo trunk and subsequently, there's less space for passengers. When it comes to styling, the Audi Q5 and the Acura RDX feature the most attractive cabin designs.

2011 Audi Q5 Infotainment

The 2011 Audi Q5 cabin provides many features to keep you entertained. The Premium trim comes with the Audi Concert System, which includes a ten-speaker audio system, an AM/FM/MP3/CD player, and an SD card slot for data storage. Apart from these, it also features a seven-inch color LCD screen, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a color MID atop the instrument cluster. Unfortunately, basic features like Bluetooth and Apple device connectivity aren’t available with the base Q5 trim.

The costlier Premium Plus trim adds a Bluetooth device connectivity function. The top-of-the-line Prestige trim adds the Audi MMI Navigation Plus Package, which includes a voice-activated navigation system, HD radio, and a 40 GB hard drive. Besides, the flagship Prestige also comes standard with a B&O 14-speaker premium audio system. As for the system, Audi’s MMI interface is one of the most intuitive user interfaces currently available in the segment. It even includes an NVidia processor to help with modern graphics and performance.

2011 Audi Q5 Cargo Capacity

The 2011 Audi Q5 is one of the most practical offerings in the segment when it comes to storage space. With the rear seats in place, the Q5 has a standard cargo capacity of 29.1 cubic feet. However, you can fold the rear seats down to expand the total cargo volume to a whopping 57.3 cubic feet. The trunk opening is wide for easier access and a power tailgate comes standard in the 3.0T trim.

The Audi Q5 trumps its competitors in terms of practicality. It has the largest cargo trunk in the segment, however, it falls short of the Acura RDX when it comes to maximum cargo space with the rear seats folded. On the other hand, both the BMW and Mercedes trail the pack with significantly less cargo space.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

Apart from providing a voluminous cargo trunk, Audi has designed the Q5’s cabin with plenty of secondary storage spaces inside. The front has a lockable glovebox, a small cubby for phones, cup holders, and a storage compartment under the front armrest. Rear passengers also get cup holders, a storage cubby behind the front console, seatback pockets, and under-seat storage compartments. All four doors also get sizeable door pockets and bottle holders.

2011 Audi Q5 Creature Comforts

Both the 2011 Q5 Premium and Premium Plus feature a leather-trimmed four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a semi-digital instrument cluster, red ambient lighting, genuine wood decorative trim, leather seats, a 12-way power-adjustable front seats with power lumbar support, and three-zone automatic climate control. Optional extras include heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and front seats with memory.

The Q5 Prestige trim adds heated front seats with a six-step heating adjustment, memory settings for the front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. If these aren’t enough, Audi offers a sports steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and aluminum interior trim as optional extras for the Prestige.

Final Verdict

The 2011 Audi Q5's versatility makes it one of the most alluring options in its segment. Not only is the cabin practical but it's finished with the finest materials available on the market. Both the seating rows feel very comfortable and feature adequate room for the passengers while the infotainment system is stacked with features. Moreover, the Q5 also offers the largest cargo trunk in the segment. In conclusion, the 2011 Audi Q5 is undoubtedly one of the best offerings in the segment when it comes to the interior front.
