The 2015 Audi Q5 is a compact crossover that sets the benchmark in the segment with a premium two-row interior, plenty of powertrain options to choose from, and above-average reliability ratings. For sale in over 6 trims, the Q5 comes with standard Quattro all-wheel drive in all of them. New for 2015, Audi introduces a multitude of features to the lineup, including a new 19-wheel package. On the trim front, HID headlights and a power liftgate come standard with the 2.0T Premium trim, whereas it gets an optional Navigation system.

2015 Audi Q5 For Sale

One of the best SUVs in the segment, the 2015 Q5 is available in over 6 trims, with the base Premium trim priced at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $39,300, while the 3.0T Premium Plus is priced at $45,400. Having said that, the trim we recommend will be the 2015 Q5 3.0T Prestige trim, priced at $52,900, for the sole reason of it getting a supercharged V6 engine. Moreover, the new adaptive suspension and all the latest packages, including the Luxury, S Line, and Sport interior package only add to its worth.

2015 Audi Q5 Buying Advice

With average prices ranging anywhere between $15,000 to $30,000 for the 2015 Q5, it might not be the worst idea to look for a Used Audi Q5, as you might save much more on opting for 2013 Q5, which apart from a few features changes, is practically similar to the 2015 MY. Furthermore, you can also go for the second gen 2019 Audi Q5 MY, which at $42,950 is a completely revised model.

Further changes in the form of Audi side assist and navigation package is now included in one technology package, which is offered as optional in the 3.0T Premium Plus trim. An additional Luxury package is also offered with the said trim. This concludes the changes on the Q5 interior front, whereas the 2015 Q5 exterior gets five new color shades joining the palette. On the specs front, the 2015 Q5 gets multiple engine options, with the standard one being the 2.0L turbo-four engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Audi Q5 is one of the most capable luxury crossover SUVs in the segment. With 6 trim options and 3 power-packed engines, the 2015 Q5 is one of the finest compact SUVs in the luxury vehicle segment. The 2015 Audi Q5 is well equipped with lavish interior features and enticing cabin quality. Known for its reliability, this premium Q5 SUV has a starting price of $39,300 for the base trim.

Apart from the standard Q5 variant, a turbo diesel, a hybrid, and a tuned 354 hp supercharged V6 SQ5 are also available as part of the 2015 Q5 lineup. The SUV is further known for its impressive handling dynamics, courtesy of its potent suspension setup and its ability to attack corners, which is unheard of in this luxury segment. The 2015 Q5 competes against other top SUVs such as the BMW X3, Volvo XC60, and the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Buying Advice

The 2015 Audi Q5 3.0T Prestige is the best-valued trim out of the 4 gas-powered trim levels. Firstly, it is powered by a V6 which outputs 272 hp. With that, you have bigger 19-inch Star design wheels and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Further, opt for the Luxury package, which adds ventilated front seats, leather-colored stitching, and a 7.0-inch TFT display with Audi MMI navigation plus and Bang and Olufsen speakers.

Features
7.0/10

Audi has also managed to offer the latest packages including but not limited to the Audi exclusive line, High Gloss Black, and Luxury package. For prospective buyers in need for more power, can always opt for the performance-oriented Audi SQ5 variant, which is in no dearth of latest features too.

Engine and Performance
8.8/10

In terms of engine options, the 2015 Audi Q5 boasts five engines for you. The standard engine is a 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder that outputs 220 hp at 4,450 RPM with a torque output of 258 lb-ft at 1,500 RPM. If you want better performance figures, you can opt for the 3.0L Supercharged V-6 engine in the Q5 Prestige trim that churns out 272 horses and 295 lb-ft. There's a fuel-efficient diesel powertrain as well. You get peak power of 240 hp at 3,750 RPM along with a massive 428 lb-ft torque at just 1,750 RPM. All the engines are mated to an 8-Speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The engine's power is delivered to all four wheels with the standard Quattro AWD where you get off-road capabilities as well.

The mighty Q5 can tow up to 4,400 pounds of trailer weight which is impressive for a compact crossover SUV. The 4 cylinder is kind of sluggish in the 2015 Q5 with its 6.9 seconds 0-60 MPH run and 15.3 seconds for the quarter-mile. The V6 Diesel does it in 6.8 seconds with 14.9 seconds in the quarter-mile. The Supercharged V6 in the Premium Plus and Prestige trims is the fastest with its 6.5 seconds 0-60 MPH and 14.6 seconds quarter-mile run.

The BMW X3 is the fastest SUV of the lot. The Audi Q5 does not impress with its acceleration if you go for the base engine, but it is not too slow either. You always have the option to go for other powertrain options if you want better acceleration and performance.

Fuel Economy
9.0/10

The 2015 Audi Q5, when equipped with the TFSI 4 cylinder, returns a decent fuel economy. The Q5 offers 20 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway, and a combined 23 MPG. With the powerful V6 engine, the vehicle offers 18 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highway, and 21 MPG combined economy. The diesel V6 is all about capability and economy. It delivers an amazing 24 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and a combined economy of 27 MPG. With its 19.8-gallon fuel tank, the vehicle delivers more than 600 miles of highway range. For a 4,000 lb AWD SUV like the Q5, all engine options are delivering good enough fuel economy.

The Volvo XC60 is the most fuel-efficient SUV with its base engine, while the BMW X3 takes the second spot. With its diesel V6, the Audi Q5 matches the Volvo XC60 in terms of fuel economy. Also, Audi offers the biggest fuel tank in its segment which ensures a better range. The Audi Q5 offers the best range on the highway after the Volvo XC60.

Interior
8.2/10

The 2015 Audi Q5's interior is more practical than it seems. There's plenty of room for 5 passengers inside. The cabin remains lavish with slight sporty accents. The controls placement is right beside the driver on the center console for ease. The infotainment is placed above the AC vents for better visibility. There's an optional flat-bottom heated steering as well. With leather upholstery, the premium cabin of the 2015 Q5 is highlighted with aluminum and genuine wood accents while the contrast stitching remains optional.

As standard with all the trims, you have a 12-way power driver and 8-way power passenger bucket seats. With that, you have a 4-way lumbar, adjustable head restraints, and heating function as well. The rear row gets a 40-20-40 split-bench seat with a reclining function. Behind the second row, the Q5 cargo space is limited to 29.1 cubic feet. You have standard dual-zone automatic air-conditioning with rear HVAC controls, sliding front and rear pass-through armrests, a refrigerated cool box right there in the dash, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With wide seats and proper division between the first and second row, the Q5 has the most practical approach to seating space.

It powers a 6.5-inch display with an Audi music interface, iPod integration, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a SiriusXM radio subscription for 90 days. The infotainment is connected to a 10 speaker sound system with a 180W amplifier to keep you entertained. The higher trims offer a bigger 7.0 inch TFT display with a control knob or joystick controller placed behind the gear shifter. It also supports a better music experience with the 14 Bang and Olufsen speakers and a 505W amplifier.

Exterior
8.5/10

What attracts buyers the most is Audi's exterior design profile. A distinct styling that shows unique German craftsmanship and luxury. In its first generation, the 2015 Q5 is mostly unchanged with similar design lines. The major changes include the headlamps, bumpers, and accessories. The massive grille is designed with chrome and covers the whole front bumper. We have new LED headlamps with DRLs as standard from now on. Below the headlamps are air intakes with integrated fog lamps where the front diffuser hides below the grille. The clean bonnet is wider than the cabin itself.

With roof-mounted racks, the roofline slopes down with the rear lip spoiler. The rear power liftgate has red integrated tail lamps with LED brake lights. With the body-colored bumper, you have rear fog lamps as well. The dual chrome tip exhausts are placed on either side of the rear diffuser. As standard, the base trim rides on 18-inch 5-V-Spoke design alloys. With the higher trims, you get 19-inch 5-arm star Design alloys. The top-of-the-line trim gets bigger 20-inch titanium 5-V-Spoke wheels.

Thanks to the BMW X3, the Audi Q5 isn't the heaviest crossover SUV in its segment. Surprisingly, the Discovery Sport is the smallest SUV with less weight and smaller dimensions. With its wide-body stance, the Q5 looks much better than its rivals. If we talk about the design, the Audi offers personalization options with the high gloss black package and the S line plus package where you can opt for bigger wheels, gloss black paint, glossy roof rails, and S line front and rear bumpers and side valances.

Standout exterior features include:

  • LED headlamps with DRLs
  • Front and rear fog lamps
  • Chrome exterior accents
  • High gloss package
  • S line front and rear bumpers and side valances
  • 20-inch Titanium 5-V-Spoke wheels
Safety
8.4/10

The 2015 Q5 is made by keeping the utmost precision and safety in mind. The high-strength steel chassis and B pillars keep the structure intact at the time of the collision. With the use of lightweight sheet aluminum, Audi has made the Q5 lighter and more aerodynamic. That's why IIHS awarded the 2015 Audi Q5 with the Top Safety Pick+ title. In the NHTSA crash tests, the 2015 Q5 scored an above-average 4 Star rating.

Standout safety features include:

  • High strength steel unibody structure
  • Electronic brake-force distribution
  • Brake assistance
  • Active cruise control
  • Parking sensors
  • Blind-spot warning system
Competition

2015 Audi Q5 vs 2015 BMW X3

The competition between the 2015 Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 is rather intense and fierce. As a result, the difference between the two vehicles remains diminutive, when efficiency and performance are concerned.

So, the major difference between both these SUVs lies in their interior space and comfort, where the Q5 easily takes the lead. Additionally, it also has a lower starting price, and by bestowing a pliant ride quality, Audi’s SUV gains dominance.

2015 Audi Q5 vs 2015 Volvo XC60

As a Swedish competitor in a segment dominated by German rivals, the Volvo XC60 delivers potent performance. While it is equally quick in the acceleration tests as the Audi Q5, the XC60’s frugality is the key to its success. It manages to average 27 MPG under combined driving conditions, which is higher than any other SUV in comparison.

It is packed with the best-in-class features and also has a larger boot for added practicality. But Volvo is bounded by its underwhelming infotainment system and, to an extent, its design. So, if aesthetics can take a back seat, the XC60 will make for a premium choice.

Final Verdict

In the luxury compact SUV segment, the 2015 Audi Q5 has a special place. It is not the best SUV, yet it holds great value with the available options and features. The base trim is not limited to a few features as Audi has revamped the lineup with better standard features. With the standard AWD, you have three engine options where you can choose from a basic Inline-4, a fuel-efficient diesel V6, and a powerful V6. If you want a capable SUV that won't let you down, then you should pick the 2015 Audi Q5.

All weather SUV.

Pros - Plush cabin, Quattro system, Sport package.

Cons - Expensive to maintain.

Well laid out cabin. I have been driving an Audi Q5 for about 6 years now. I really gotta say this, it is the best car i have ever owned. It has the practicality and opulence of an SUV yet drives like a hatchback around the corners. The Quattro system gives amazing traction and confidence in the corners even during rainy conditions. Inside, everything is well appointed. The design of the dashboar...

A Massive let down from Audi.

Pros - Nothing good about it.

Cons - *Timing belt issues, multiple issues.

Disappointed with Audi. Considering its fantastic reputation on the online forums, I foolishly shelled out $25,330 for the 2016 Audi Q5. Guess what, it's compressor and camshaft broke down almost simultaneously. I have no idea how this happened but the dealer was rather quick at pointing fingers at me. That was the first red flag right there. I ignored it, but soon the timing belt slipped. Funnil...

Great fun to frive

Pros - Premium, Agile, Puncy.

Cons - Cargo space.

Cargo limit The Q5 is a fun SUV to drive with enough passenger room but I wish the trunk was larger. This car is also very premium and everything seems to be fit snugly. Premium dealership and a well trained team who carried themselves in a great manner.
