Audi has always tried to keep a subtle yet bold profile when it comes to its cars and one of the best examples of that notion is the 2020 Q5. Encompassing a luxurious and tech-savvy interior setup, the Audi Q5 is the definite family choice for a reason. With prices starting from an MSRP of $43,300, the 2020 Q5 iteration manages to provide adequate cabin space for 4 passengers, with plenty of creature comforts made standard right from the base Premier trim.

While it aces on the passenger space front, the optional 8.3-inch infotainment unit and Audi's slick Virtual Cockpit instrument gauge cluster make it worthwhile on the technological side. Also, Audi also offers numerous interior colors and cabin accents to choose from, so as to please the masses. The 2020 Audi Q5 is available in four trim levels, and it proves to be a fitting challenger to the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC Class, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60.

2020 Audi Q5 Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

2020 Audi Q5’s interior exudes luxury and quality. The lines on the dashboard are subtle yet they carry the typical Audi flair. A blacked-out treatment paired with the piano black trim accents hint at luxury and comfort. Even the base Premium trim brings in a host of premium features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, separate HVAC controls for the second row, and leatherette door trim inserts. On the other hand, the optional flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel and aluminum trim insert convey that the Q5 has a sporty side to it as well.

Coming to the seats, as standard, it can seat 5 people in two rows. Even though, Q5 is a small SUV, it is big on interior passenger space. As standard, you get heated, power-adjustable front seats that are draped in leather upholstery. The leather seating surface feels plush.

As you go higher up the trim levels, features like heated and ventilated seats, exclusive aluminum rhombus inlays, and a bunch of other luxury bits are made available too. The rear 40-20-40 split seats are spacious and comfortable as well. Moreover, it can fold completely flat and that makes the Q5 a practical and upscale SUV at the same time.

Compared to its rivals, the 2020 Audi Q5 seems to have a well-balanced cabin. The front row and second-row seating space seem more than adequate for a crossover SUV of its kind. Since it is a highly competitive segment, its rivals seem to have similar cabin space and amenities. But the Volvo XC60 offers better legroom on both rows; the downside is that the vehicle sits a bit lower and that eats into the headroom space.

2020 Audi Q5 Infotainment

Audi never disappoints you when it comes to infotainment and tech. And the 2020 Q5 is no different. The driver is welcomed by the large 12.3-inch digital driver’s cockpit located behind the steering wheel when you opt for the Prestige trim. As standard, you get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit placed at the center of the dashboard. You can also opt for a larger 8.3-inch touchscreen display as well. Both the infotainment units run on Audi MMI Interface. The UI is intuitive and touch response is great as well.

Standard infotainment features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, voice commands and HD Radio. As you move up the trim ladder, you get satellite radio, MMI All-In-Touch system with handwriting recognition, 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit, 8.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Wi-Fi hotspot, and head-up display. For your music needs, as standard you get a 10 speaker Audi sound system while you can get the optional Bang & Olufsen 3/D surround sound system with a subwoofer.

2020 Audi Q5 Cargo Capacity

2020 Audi Q5’s cargo area is neither too small nor too big. It has a standard cargo capacity of 25.1 cu-ft. which is quite impressive for an SUV of its size. Folding down the rear seats opens up 53.1 cu-ft. of space.

The loading height is low and the opening is wide; this allows for easy loading and unloading. Moreover, as standard, you get a power liftgate, and opting for the higher trims unlocks a hands-free liftgate for added convenience.

The 2020 Volvo XC60 has the smallest standard cargo capacity in the segment, but surprisingly when you fold down the seats, it offers 63.3 cu ft of cargo space; it is better than most rivals offer. The BMW X3 comes with the largest standard cargo capacity; it traded interior space for better practicality.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

2020 Audi Q5 hosts a large illuminated glove box, a pair of cup holders, a small storage space in front of the armrest as well as beneath it, and a reasonably large pair of door bins at the front. Moving on to the rear, there are seatback pockets behind the front seats, door bins on both doors, and a pair of cup holders integrated with the armrest.

2020 Audi Q5 Creature Comforts

Right from the base trim level option, the Audi Q5 seems to be fully loaded. As standard, you get leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a power liftgate, tri-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start.

Opting for the Premium Plus trim adds a panoramic sunroof and hands-free liftgate to the list. Prestige trim adds a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a premium sound system. Moreover, there are plenty of design and styling options as well.

Final Verdict

The 2020 Audi Q5 is a well-equipped premium crossover SUV with sufficient power, performance and luxury on offer for the price that you pay. Even its base trim level comes with upscale features and creature comforts. Overall, 2020 Q5 with its subtle albeit powerful design cues, impressive build quality, upscale interior, and a touch of Audi’s latest technological features makes it extraordinary; you certainly don’t want to miss this.
