One revamp after another, andAudi Q5 demanded a break. The much-needed break gave way to the second-generation Q5 in the year 2018. The revamped Q5 wasn’t quite different from the generation before that, but that’s a regular case with the company’s lineup. The 2021 Audi Q5 brought about some styling changes and more power. The look of the car and the features included within are bound to remain the same for the 2022 Audi Q5, and thus it would certainly be a carryover model. Audi Q5 is a luxury SUV that has its place in the middle of the lineup of Audi. It falls somewhere between the Compact Audi Q3 and the big three-row Q7. It received a mid-cycle refresh in 2021 only. The upgrade brought about a new infotainment system with a huge touchscreen display, revamped exterior styling, and a power-packed 4-cylinder engine. However, we’ll be more than happy to welcome the small upgrades in the already available features for the 2022 Model Year.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

Priced between $43,300 and $62,700, the Q5 is offering you a comfy cabin that’s also peaceful. It gives you an opulent feel with the clean structure and impressive cabin space of the small-size luxury SUV. Adding to this is the standard Quattro all-wheel drivetrain setup and many optional tech features available. The car offers 3 trim levels- Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Although many tech features excite the revheads, some of these can be hard to use. Also, the over-the-top comfy ride sometimes takes away the firmness of the ride for the enthusiasts. Apart from these tiny shortcomings, the car fares well and fights valiantly against its rivals which include the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, 2021 BMW X3, and 2022 Volvo XC60.

2022 Audi Q5 Price

With no official update on price, it will follow the same price range of its 2021 year model, i.e., from $43,300 to $62,700. As the pricing of the 2022 Audi Q7 is still unconfirmed, you can expect an inflationary increase in the present model’s price. Wait for the official update to come out. Keep your eyes glued to our website, and we’ll make sure you know the price before anyone else does.

2022 Audi Q5 Release Date

The 2022 Audi Q5 is expected to be launched in late 2021. The new Q5 will arrive unchanged from the previous year’s model as it received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2021 Model.

2022 Audi Q5 Engine and Performance

With last year's model's slight power boost for its engine, the 2022 Audi Q5 will also be featuring the same 2.0L Inline-4 Turbo engine that is capable of churning out 261 horses and 273 lb-ft torque. The only engine option that comes as a standard throughout the lineup is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission following a dual-clutch transmission system, providing a more sporty driving performance to the Q5. The vehicle also comes in a plug-in hybrid variant that produces 362hp and 369 lb-ft, which will be reviewed separately.

2022 Audi Q5 SUV engine bay

The very last of power is transmitted to all four wheels because an all-wheel drivetrain setup is also a standard throughout the range. While the Q5’s Sportback and Hybrid models are comparatively more popular than the basic Q5, it still has decent engine performance than most of its competitors in the same league. When comparing the price range, Audi Q5 is the most expensive option in the competition.

Without a doubt, the 2022 Audi Q5 is the leading SUV amongst all the mentioned rivals in terms of both power and torque. However, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 also shares the exact same torque value as the Q5, but thanks to the renowned Quattro drivetrain setup, Audi manages to achieve its peak torque at lower RPMs.

2022 Audi Q5 Fuel Economy

While there is no change made to its powertrain system, the fuel economy of the 2022 Audi Q5 might also not see any alterations. With the same economy, the Q5 will be offering 23 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highways, and 25 mpg combined. The ratings are certainly fine for the segment, but considering that the Q5 also has a hybrid powertrain system to offer, users seeking more driving comfort with precisely higher economy must be heading towards the hybrid option only.

BMW X3 leads the race in the department as it offers 24 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined. The Q5 is standing along with GLC 300 in second place as both the SUVs are offering a combined economy of 25 mpg. However, as for the combined cruising range, the Q5 tops the table thanks to its larger fuel tank.

2022 Audi Q5 Interior

The 2022 Q5 will offer you ample room to accommodate five adults. The cabin is peaceful and quiet even at high speeds. It’s also easy to enter and exit the car. As you move up the 3 trim levels, you will start getting better features such as Audi’s slick Virtual Cockpit Digital Gauge Cluster. When the Q5 was tested for its cargo space, it was kind of small. Of course, it passed above the small Macan, but it could only hold enough stuff when you fold down the rear seats. The rear seats can be folded in 40/20/40 with ample flexibility that is lacking majorly in the rivals.

2022 Audi Q5 SUV cockpit area

The Audi Q5 gives you ample legroom and headroom in both the front and the rear. But when it comes to shoulder room, the optimum comfort is for only two passengers in the rear. The seats overall are comfortable, and even the base trim gets the leather upholstered seats. Some minor shortcomings include the driver’s side door armrest, not in the vicinity of the driver’s elbow. But that gives the driver great visibility of the road owing to the sleek front roof pillars.

Audi Q5’s interior feels both luxurious and comfortable with quite a decent room. Along with that, the provided cargo capacity is quite generous for the segment. Compared to the rivals, the cargo space is decent for a compact SUV. Also, with no major changes for 2022, we expect the interior to be familiar with the 2021 model year. The notable creature comfort features include:

  • 3-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • One-Touch Up/Down Power Windows
  • Leather Covered Center Console and Door armrest
  • 8 Way heated and power front seats with 4-way power lumbar adjust and memory for driver
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Ambient LED lighting
  • Tilt and Telescopic adjust steering with Paddle Shifters
  • High Gloss Dark Brown Walnut Wood Inlays

2022 Audi Q5 Infotainment System

Just like its predecessor, the 2022 Audi Q5 will offer a 10.1-inch split-screen display installed as standard. It comes with in-built navigation with Google earth, phone calls, and audio support. The Audi Smart interface allows Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to integrate with the infotainment. The MMI Interface system works seamlessly with steering wheel-mounted controls and voice control. You also get an optional 19-speaker setup from Bang and Olufsen.

Some notable features of the Audi Q5’s infotainment system are:

  • MMI Navigation Plus and All in Touch with Handwriting recognition technology
  • 10.1-inch MMI Centre Infotainment Screen
  • 3-inch LCD Fully Digital Instrument Console
  • HD/SiriusXM/INRIX XD Radio and Traffic system
  • SD Card slot with 64GB capacity
  • 755W 19 Speaker B&O audio system with 3D sound with 16 channel amplifier

2022 Audi Q5 Exterior

By now, you know that the Audi Q5 is one of the finest in the segment. But when you talk about exterior styling changes for the 2022 model year, there aren’t many to mention. The car will definitely get some tweaks, but the overall look is not expected to change much. However, that doesn’t mean that the car looks any less. In fact, now it looks much wider and thinner, all thanks to the revamped grille.

The Q5 has been gifted with 18-inch wheels, and with the optional package, you can get the 19-inch wheels. You can also get it fitted with 20-inch wheels with the Sports package. Adding to the exterior charm would be Audi’s OLED headlights that are super cool. It also comes with a quad exhaust system. The SUV weighs 4,079 lbs and stands 8.2 inches above the ground.

The Q5’s design is pretty justified as a compact SUV. The dimensions are decent and would likely remain the same as the predecessor. When comparing the ground clearance, Volvo offers the most at 8.5 inches, while the Q5 offers the second-highest ground clearance amongst the competition. Meanwhile, the BMW X3 is both the heaviest and the longest in the group. Some of the notable exterior features include:

  • Full LED Automatic Headlights with Dynamic Range Adjustment
  • 19-inch standard wheels
  • LED Taillights with Dynamic Turn Signals
  • Aluminum Trim around exterior side windows
  • Single Frame front grille
  • Heated Windshield Washer Nozzles

2022 Audi Q5 Safety

Following the same safety measures, the 2022 Audi Q5 will be as excellent as its predecessors. While the official NHTSA and IIHS ratings are not out for the 2022 model, one can get the idea from the 2021 Q5 as it has scored a perfect 5-star safety score under the NHTSA evaluation process. Along with this, it has also received an excellent score and “Top Safety Pick+” title from the IIHS for its 2021 model year. It features standard driver-assistance technology including forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking. Some other safety assists would be available on higher trims. Here’s a sneak-peak into the notable safety suite features of the 2022 Q5:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control
  • Audi connect CARE Emergency SOS
  • Audi side assist Blind Spot
  • Audi pre sense city and Audi pre sense rear
  • Audi parking system plus Front And Rear Parking Sensors
  • Lane departure warning Lane Departure Warning
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System Low Tire Pressure Warning

2022 Audi Q5 Competition

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2021 BMW X3

The 2021 BMW X3 is available at $300 less than the 2022 Audi Q5. While the Q5 is coming with only AWD, the X3 has the RWD setup. While driving, you’d love the feel of the X3 more probably because of the sharp steering and excellent response from the engines. However, both these cars come with well-structured cabins, nice build, and opulent materials. The BMW comes with a large trunk as well. So it is a difficult choice between the two.

2021 BMW X3

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300

The 2022 Q5 offers better agility and performance but lacks in the luxury factor a bit when compared to the Mercedes GLC. The Q5 offers a quiet and pleasant cabin compared to the GLC 300. The new Q5 has been upgraded with the latest features that make the interior look more premium. With a slightly powerful engine, the 2022 Audi Q5 has an upper hand.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2022 Volvo XC60

The 2022 Q5 is almost better in each term as compared to the Volvo XC60, be it engine and performance, acceleration, fuel economy, interior amenities, or exterior styling. So, there seems to be no doubt about which car to go for when we compare the 2022 Audi Q5 and the 2022 Volvo XC60. It’s a clear choice.

2022 Audi Q5 Final Verdict

There are surely many other better luxury SUVs available in the market today, but the 2022 Audi Q5 has its place. It’s worth your time and consideration. Some of the vehicles may feel more premium but will lack in the engine or performance bit. With some new updates, the styling of the 2022 Q5 isn’t bad either. The choice remains completely up to you because with an Audi the reliability factor is quite high. So, if you like balance, this may be the car for you.
