2023 Audi Q5 Price, Review, Ratings and Pictures

As one of the best-selling cars from Audi, the 2023 Audi Q5 has to meet a lot of expectations regarding luxury and performance. Mechanically it remains unchanged from the current 2022 model year Q5 and offers similar levels of practicality and creature comforts. After getting a minor facelift in 2021 and adding more features last year, the Audi 2023 Q5 is essentially a carry-forward model.

2023 Audi Q5 for Sale

The 2023 Audi Q5 SUV is expected to go for sale in the fourth quarter of 2022 and gets no price hike. The MSRP continues to start at $44,495 for the base 40 TFSI model. The Audi Q5 45 TFSI with more power starts at a $47,095 price tag. Lease deals start at $691/month with just $2,000 due at signing and 12,000 miles of annual mileage limit for 36 months. Finance offers start at 3.49% APR for a 72-month duration with monthly payments starting at $655.

2023 Audi Q5 Buying Advice

While the Audi Q5 has remained majorly unchanged since its last overhaul back in 2018, the 2022 Q5 gets the S Line package as standard with additional functions for a minor price hike. Also since the 2023 Q5 is expected to just be a carryover model, we would prefer the current 2022 Q5. That said, one could save big by investing on a used Audi Q5 with great deals and price discounts on offer.

The 2023 Q5 is still part of the second generation that was introduced back in 2018 and we have to wait out to get an all-electric variant. Its strengths are known to all - good powertrains, excellent quality interiors, as well a great allocation of cargo space. It competes against its sibling, the Porsche Macan in the performance aspect, against the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class for luxury, and the BMW X3 for its affordability.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The midsize SUV segment has some intense competition and all the cars offer comfortable seating for five occupants. The 2023 Audi Q5 comes with an all-wheel-drive powertrain as standard and hence has good abilities on and off the road. It still retains the Audi Q5 Sportback as well as the Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid. Prices start at an MSRP of $44,495 including the $1,095 destination fee and is available for sale in the same 3 trim lineup.

Although the 2023 Q5 comes at an attractive starting price and strong towing capabilities, it is not easy on the pocket in terms of ownership costs. The 5-year cost of ownership value is around the $58,650 mark while J.D. Power rates it with a reliability rating of 71/100 in their reliability tests. This puts it at the back of the pack in the segment led by the BMW and Porsche SUVs. In spite of the good MPG ratings, the lack of a complimentary maintenance program and average warranty pushes the running costs higher.

Buying Advice

When factoring in the equipment level and the price of the car, we feel that the premium plus trim level makes a lot of sense. It gives you features like a power-adjustable steering column, Audi virtual cockpit digital gauge display, the full safety suite, and so on. Among the powertrains, we feel the 45 series powertrains make a lot of sense, with its 261 hp output, more of which will be explained soon in this article.

Features
8.5/10

Since the 2023 Audi Q5 remains unchanged in all aspects, it continues with the 3 trim linup with 2 engine options on offer. While the engines remain the same, the 45 TFSI models feature a mild hybrid setup as an addition and the Quattro AWD drivetrain is standard across the lineup. The base trim is Premium, followed by the Premium Plus, and Prestige. Driving aids like front collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind-spot alert, rear-view camera, and front & rear parking sensors, are all standard for all Q5 models.

The Q5 comes pretty loaded right from the base Premium trim itself and opting for the Convenience package gets you heated steering wheel, satellite radio, passive keyless entry, driver seat memory and auto-dimming mirrors from the Premium Plus trim. The Premium Plus also enjoys additional features like front sport seats, ventilated front seats, and manual rear side sun shades with the Warm Weather package. There is also a Black Optics package available as an option for the Premium Plus and Prestige trims.

Release Date

The 2023 Audi Q5 release date has not yet been finalized by the brand. However, since it does not come with a lot of updates and following the model year rollout sequences that we observe from Audi, we have to go out on a limb and say that it will come to dealerships by the last quarter of 2022. This will mean that deliveries will begin soon after as the automotive industry is reviving after supply chain issues.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

Audi gives you a couple of options in terms of the powertrain with the 2023 Audi Q5. What you get as standard is a 2L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, along with a seven-speed automatic transmission as well as Quattro all-wheel-drive system. In its standard guise as the 40 TFSI model, it puts out 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Engine output further increases to 261 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque with the 45 TFSI model with assistance from the mild-hybrid system. Audi also provides a performance-oriented version of this car called the SQ5 which comes with a 3 L V6 turbocharged engine.

The Audi Q5 has good ride quality for the most part but it feels a little busy. Even with the adaptive suspension, the car since quite a few vibrations inside, and some of its competitors do a much better job in terms of cabin insulation. The ride is not stiff by any measure but does not feel like it is plush either. Being one of the biggest plus points of a brand like Audi, we sure feel that it could have been better. In terms of handling, the car is quite capable but the competitors like the Porsche Macan deliver a much more focused experience despite being based on the same platform.

The seven-speed automatic transmission feels great and the Quattro system is amazing in terms of the traction output it provides. With the base powertrain, the 2023 Q5 can do the 0-60 MPH sprint in a pretty quick 6.8 seconds while covering the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds. The more powerful Q5 does the same in 5.5 and 14.2 seconds respectively. The 60 to 0 mph stopping distance is not comparable to other cars in its class and is a massive 129 feet.

We can see that this category has good competition in terms of the powertrains and all competitors come with 2L turbocharged inline 4 engines. The highest power output is delivered by the Audi itself but while the Mercedes Benz GLC Class is quicker due to the higher torque output. Mercedes also has the lowest towing capacity while the other three have identical towing capacities. The BMW X3 is the most affordable one here but is also the slowest of the lot. The Macan on the other hand charges a premium for its blistering quick performance and agile handling.

Fuel Economy
8.5/10

One of the reasons this category has considered a 2L turbocharged powertrain so much is that they have a need to provide good fuel efficiency. And that aspect, we feel Audi has done a great job because even with the best power output in the segment, it delivers close to the best fuel efficiency figures as well.

The fuel tank size is also generous measuring 18.8 gallons. According to the EPA, this car can return 23 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG combined which makes it quite frugal. You could go up to 518 miles on a single tank which should really help people who love to take long journeys.

While the Porsche has excelled in many aspects, it has some time to make up in terms of fuel efficiency. It reports the lowest figures in the segment on contrary to its sibling. While the BMW X3 and GLC-Class are slightly less frugal, the updated powertrain from Mercedes could go past the MPG ratings of the Q5. For now, the Audi Q5 offers the best range with class-leading fuel efficiency and a large fuel tank.

Interior
9.0/10

Another strong point of this car has been its interior quality as well as the design of the 2023 Audi Q5. It not only comes with plush details and high-quality craftsmanship but also a wide range of features. The technology used inside this cabin is second to none in the segment and you get the best infotainment system running the latest Audi MMI interface. It delivers a good amount of space as well with seats that are wide and supportive. The ergonomics of this cabin are spot on and users will never feel uncomfortable. There are four interior upholstery color options and features like tri-zone automatic climate control wood interior inlays, as well as contrasting stitching, are available.

The latest Audi MMI infotainment system is present in this car and is one of the best we have in the business. There is a 12.3-inch driver information display as well as another 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display along with high-quality switchgear for all of the controls. The car also gives you class-leading legroom in every row but the cargo capacity is a bit on the lower side with just 25.9 cu-ft. The driving position is great and you also get an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, universal garage door opener, an integrated toll collection module, and so on. There are plenty of cubbyholes and bottle holders in the cabin as well.

The space allocation inside the cabin is great in this car and you will find yourself with plenty of legroom. Even in the Sportback version, it gives you enough headroom to be comfortable. The obvious sacrifice is in terms of the cargo volume where the BMW leads again. However, 25.9 cu-ft is not something small and we feel that most users will be able to make do with it. The Macan offers a similar cabin space but compromises in terms of trunk capacity. The GLC-Class also offers a very similar passenger and cargo space as that of the Audi.

Some standout interior features of the 2023 Audi Q5 include:

  • Heated and power-adjustable front seats w/Driver and passenger seat memory
  • Nappa leather upholstery on seats and steering wheel
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Digital driver display & Touchscreen infotainment system
  • Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • Bluetooth and 4G LTE WiFi
  • Satellite and HD radio
Exterior
8.0/10

In its second-generation right now, the design language of the 2023 Audi Q5 has matured a lot and we feel that it is truly timeless. Last year, the Audi Q5 S Line appearance package was made standard in the car and comes with sporty design details, along with 18-inch alloy wheels. If you opt for the black optic package, you also get several blacked-out details that make the car look menacing, along with 20-inch alloy wheels that look sinister. The single-frame grille adorns the front fascia and the road presence is quite good.

2023 Audi Q5 SUV Front Angle View

The ground clearance is good at 8.2 inches and the car can make it through most everyday situations with ease. Although it is not an off-roader by any means, it has soft-roading capabilities that its competitors do not have. The exterior dimensions make it slightly smaller than the rivals in the car is quite heavy at 4101 lbs. Audi offers a range of 9 paint color options for the buyers to choose from.

The BMW X3 is the longest and tallest car in the segment but the Porsche is the widest. Despite this, it is the heaviest which may be why it suffers a bit in terms of acceleration. The Mercedes has the longest wheelbase in the segment with its 2023 update and it translates a bit to better straight-line stability. In terms of the design though, it is the Porsche that impresses everyone the most.

Some of the standout exterior features include:

  • Heated side-view mirrors
  • Rear Spoiler
  • Body-colored door handles and side-view mirrors
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • LED Daytime Running Light
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Galvanized steel panels
  • Power liftgate with power door lock
Safety
9.5/10

The 2023 Audi Q5 has great potential in terms of safety. It has had a perfect five-star safety rating from NHTSA and has also been given the honor of ‘Top Safety Pick +’ by the IIHS for the previous model year. This year sees the boiling down of safety features down to the lowest trim levels which adds to the safety aspect of the SUV.

Some of the standout safety features available with the 2023 Audi Q5 include

  • Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Hill Start Assist

2023 Audi Q5 vs 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is the benchmark in several aspects including straight-line performance, interior design, and so on. It is also a newer car with an upgrade coming forward for the 2023 model year. While the Q5 2023 is more affordable, the Mercedes is more comfortable and reliable with similar performance on offer.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

2023 Audi Q5 vs 2023 Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan is a much more expensive choice in the segment and is the most exotic one without a doubt. However, it has sportscar-like driving abilities that you won’t find in anything in the segment. In terms of interior quality, both cars are evenly matched and are also based on the same chassis. We feel Porsche has done a much better job of doing the chassis as well as the suspension.

2023 Porsche Macan

2023 Audi Q5 vs 2023 BMW X3

The BMW X3 has been the segment leader for several years now and with good reason. The car gives you the best fuel efficiency in the segment, decent performance, great driving dynamics, and very comfortable interiors. It also promises better ride quality and one feels that one gets more bang for their buck with the BMW.

2023 BMW X3
Final Verdict

The 2023 Audi Q5 is a good car without a doubt but the problem is that it faces competition in the category that has so many excellent cars. We feel that despite certain advantages the vehicle offers, its ride quality, as well as muted looks, don’t sit well with many. We feel that the BMW X3 is a better all-rounder and would be the car we would recommend to readers. Don’t get us wrong, the Audi has no fault on its own but simply does not remain as competitive as the BMW or a Mercedes.
