Even since its inception, Audi Q7 has been a strong contender in the midsize luxury SUV class. Just when the competition tried catching up, Audi took the Q7 further forward. After major changes in 2017 and minor updates in 2020, the Q7 has been looking magnificent. Seeing how the Q7 got major changes recently, there is no chance that the redesign will happen anytime soon. So the 2022 Audi Q7 will stay the same as the current version. At least from the outside, the Q7’s interior however might get new changes, especially new tech features. But there is no official information regarding that.

Overall Rating

Known for its impressive performance, stunning visuals, and top-notch interior, the Q7 is one of the top vehicles in its class with impressive sales. And why shouldn't it? After all, the German manufacturer has earned its reputation and the trust of its buyers by delivering excellent products. It is a perfect family car that offers a level of quality and class which is unmatched by its competition. It offers strong competition to its rivals like the BMW X5, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Class, and the Volvo XC90.

We Recommend

The Premium Plus makes the most sense to us. It has a good collection of features, substantially more than the base Premium, all for a marginal increase in price. This trim also offers both the 2L Inline 4 and the 3L V6 engines. So, buyer’s choice.

2022 Audi Q7 Price

Currently, there is no official information regarding the pricing of the 2022 Audi Q7, but expect to see inflationary prices starting from $56,000 to $86,000. When it comes to the features, the 2022 Q7 will be the same as its outgoing model. So expect the same features, but it will be interesting to see if some of the current optional features turn into standard ones.

2022 Audi Q7 Release Date

For now, there is no official release date for the 2022 Audi Q7, we can only expect that it will arrive after the beginning of the third quarter this year.

2022 Audi Q7 Engine and Performance

The 2022 Audi Q7 will be loaded with the same engine configurations as the current year model. The base trim 45 TFSI Quattro is powered by a 2.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder engine which produces 248 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and a torque of 273 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. The mid-level 55 TFSI Quattro trim comes loaded with a more powerful 335 horsepower 3.0 Liter Turbocharged V6 engine with a torque of 369 lb-ft at 1,370 rpm. All three engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which feels buttery smooth. All-wheel drive is standard on every trim. Doesn't matter which engine configuration you choose, Q7 offers an unforgettable driving experience, and of course, each engine has its advantages. As the base engine feels like the best contender for daily usage, on the other hand, both V6 and V8 bridges the gap between comfort and raw power.

2022 Audi Q7 SUV engine

When it comes to acceleration, all three engines are again formidable. The base four-cylinder engine goes from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds and with the V6, Q7 goes from 0-60 mph in five seconds flat. The noted quarter-mile timing for the V6 is 13.7 seconds. These numbers are highly impressive and offer tough competition to its rivals. Q7 might feel a bit sluggish in comfort mode, but the behavior changes instantly once the performance mode comes into play.

The driving experience is unforgettable as it can tackle any situation admirably. On top of that, the available options of air suspension combined with the four-wheel drive outshines Q7 on sharp corners. As for the bad roads, surprisingly it doesn't fail to tackle those. Yes, it is not purely off-road, but you will be surprised how well it can do once you decide to cover some rough terrains.

When compared to its rivals, at first Q7 feels like it will stay behind the others, especially when you look at the stats. But the magic of Audi is still on as it goes strongly against its rivals. We cannot ignore how its rivals are not to be taken lightly especially the BMW X5 (0-60mph in just 4.8 seconds with the V6 engine) which is a bit faster than the Q7. But the rest of the rivals fall behind the Q7.

2022 Audi Q7 Fuel Economy

Unfortunately, this is where Q7 stays behind as the impressive power comes at the cost of having a low fuel economy. The current version of Q7 has a mileage of 19 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highways, and 21 mpg combined. These numbers are for the base engine, so as you go higher on power level, the numbers drop naturally. Seeing how the 2022 Audi Q7 will be mostly the same, for now, we can only expect an improvement by Audi over churning better mileage.

MPG (City)

Fuel Capacity (gallons)

Range (City/highway/combined) in miles

Even when compared to its rivals, the Q7 falls behind the others by having average mileage. The 22.5 gallons fuel tank capacity is respectable, but even that fails to make a significant difference because the driving range is far lesser than what its rivals offer.

2022 Audi Q7 Interior

One of the core qualities which made Q7 a desirable choice in the market is its top-tier interior. We expect the same level of finesse from the upcoming 2022 Audi Q7 or even better. For now, there is no information regarding any new changes. The Q7 already has one of the best-looking interiors in the business. This is where Audi is best at, it is a demonstration of how to make a luxury cabin as the interior design is just stunningly awesome.

The class-leading cabin design holds a big futuristic dashboard which is an amalgamation of three touchscreen displays. From left to right it feels very seamless, and almost overwhelming especially if you are not fond of touch or complex controls. Even the center console connecting to the middle of front row seats is oozing with style. The whole cabin has two-tone color grading with chrome accents integrated within a beautiful design and the premium quality materials on every surface are soothing. The controls at first might be confusing but feels heavenly once you get used to them. As for the driver's accessibility, while driving, it is not best in the class as the dashboard is pretty straightforward and far away from seats, so if one can’t reach the center console without leaning forward then moving seats forward is the only option.

2022 Audi Q7 SUV

This is one of the few seven-seaters in its class. The whole cabin is spacious with fully comfortable heated and ventilated seats. All seats are power-adjustable and we expect the 2022 Audi Q7 to have even better quality surfaces. Both front and second-row seats have more than enough headroom and legroom, but the third row is a bit let down. It is best suited for the kids as adults will find trouble fitting in their legs. The cabin also has various storage areas for holding on to your stuff. Then comes the comfort creatures the Q7 is loaded with various ones including a beautifully designed panoramic roof, rear door/side windows and tailgate sunshades, heated auto-dimming power-folding exterior mirrors, and a top-view camera system with 360° virtual view.

Seating Capacity

Front Row (headroom/shoulder room/legroom in inches)

Second Row (headroom/shoulder room/legroom in inches)

Third Row (headroom/shoulder room/legroom in inches)

Trunk Capacity (cubic feet)

The Mercedes Benz GLE Class SUV takes the lead by offering better room for the front and second row, but the Q7 is a 7 seater that offers better usability, which matters more to some. However, it does have low trunk space especially with third-row seats up. Folding down the second and third-row seats surely increases the volume to 69.6 cubic feet but still, it is not up to what its rivals offer.

Some of the key interior features of the Audi Q7 are:

  • A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated and cooled seats
  • Virtual cockpit
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Virtual cockpit
  • Navigation
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Navigation
  • Bang & Olufsen audio system

2022 Audi Q7 Infotainment System

The Audi Q7’s interior comes featured with three major touchscreen panels. A 10.1-inch infotainment screen can be used to control various features across the car, the 12.3-inch display is powered by an Audi Virtual Cockpit assistance system, and the smallest 8.6-inch screen gets climate control and seat functions. Some of the notable infotainment features include:

  • Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 23 speakers
  • Wireless charging support
  • MMI navigation system
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Active vehicle display
  • Colored Heads-up Display (HUD)
  • Satellite radio with Navigation

2022 Audi Q7 Exterior

Since its last redesign, the Audi Q7 is looking more gorgeous than ever before, and it is highly unlikely that the 2022 Audi Q7 will get any changes to it. Expect minor tweaks here and there with more body paint options to choose from. As for the cargo capacity we have already mentioned how it stays behind its rivals, but it does have a power liftgate with a good opening, and yes it comes with adaptive air suspension so lowering the vehicle and then loading the heavy stuff in is not going to be a problem.

2022 Audi Q7 SUV

Regardless, what once started as a basic but neat design surely turned out into a daunting appearance with smooth curves overall. The curvy eye-like designed headlights with an octagonal-shaped grille in the middle bring out a mean look on the front. The rear of the Q7 compliments the front with the same level of awesomeness.

Q7 is the longest in its class with decent width and height. All in all the full-body design defines the luxury class and it is very practical. Some of its main key features are below:

  • Matrix design LED headlights
  • Octagonal metal look grille
  • 20 inch 5 spoke turbine designed wheels
  • Lip spoiler
  • Chrome exterior window surrounds and roof rails
  • Heated and electrically operated exterior rearview mirrors
  • Panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade
  • Intermittent automatic wipers

2022 Audi Q7 Safety

The 2022 Audi Q7 offers the same safety features as its outgoing model. It is already loaded with various safety features and driving assists for maximum protection of the vehicle and its occupants. Its thoughtful construction ensures low rollover risks and maximizes survivability. The 2019 Audi Q7 got a full five-star rating by the NHTSA and the 2021 Audi Q7 got the maximum possible rating of ‘good’ by the IIHS. We expect the upcoming version to have the same level or even better level of safety. Some of the notable safety features include:

  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Forward collision avoidance
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Audi pre-sense rear parking

2022 Audi Q7 Competition

2022 Audi Q7 vs 2021 BMW X5

The rivalry between Q7 and X5 is a strong one as both vehicles try their best to overstep each other. But both are somehow equal, as one offers something which the other does not. The Q7 offers impressive performance and cabin which goes strongly against the X5 but falls behind when it comes to fuel economy and cargo capacity. Also, X5 is the only one that keeps up with Q7 when it comes to acceleration.

2021 BMW X5

2022 Audi Q7 vs 2021 Mercedes Benz GLE Class SUV

The Audi Q7 surely pioneered luxury elements in its class, but recently Mercedes-Benz has also caught up with its new design and features. Even if the GLE Class SUV can catch up with Q7 when it comes to performance or visuals it does offer better fuel economy, more room for front and second row, and of course better cargo capacity.

2021 Mercedes Benz GLE Class SUV

2022 Audi Q7 vs 2022 Acura MDX

The 2022 Acura MDX enters into its fourth generation with a complete revamp. The 2022 MDX is now stronger and spacious compared to the Audi Q7. However, both SUVs offer plenty of features and safety aids. The Acura MDX goes a bit forward in terms of extended powertrain warranty and cargo space.

2022 Acura MDX

2022 Audi Q7 Final Verdict

The Audi Q7 is already one of the best in its class as it offers a great combination of incredible power with attractive visuals and a top level of luxury. We expect the same or even better from the upcoming 2022 Audi Q7. However, it is pretty clear that the upcoming model is mostly going to be the same. But one does not know what Audi might be cooking secretly. We expect to have a better fuel economy and more cargo space. But for now, we can only wait and anticipate.
