The 2022 Audi Q8 midsize luxury SUV Coupe awaits a special launch for the year. Though predictive changes for the 2022 Audi Q8 signal for some new interior feature upgrades, we are still hesitant about the actual updates from the outgoing 2021 Audi Q8. The luxury crossover SUV features an aggressive front end and a sharp rear which makes it look bold and handsome.

Other than that, it also comes with some of the most sophisticated technological and safety features. The V6 engine on offer is capable of providing a very refined driving experience. The 2022 Audi Q8 will see no major changes over its outgoing model and will mostly be carried forward as it is.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The luxury crossover SUV might be offered in the same three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. We are expecting the same price tag starting from $70,100-$79,800. It faces stiff competition from other segment stalwarts like the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

2022 Audi Q8 Features

The 2022 Audi Q8 will continue the same trims from the previous year, which are the Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The 2022 Audi Q8 trims will also remain closely priced to the previous model as the vehicle remains completely unchanged. The 2022 Audi Q8 engine bay also equips the same 3L TFSI V6 motor and the 8-speed automatic transmission remains unchanged too.

The base Premium trim, expected to be priced at $69,200 will come loaded with many standard comfort features like a hands-free liftgate, Audi infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, lane departure warning, safety theft alarm, forward collision warning with low-speed automatic braking. The top trim Prestige is expensive by $9,000 and packs some of the most prestigious comfort features available in the market.

We Recommend

The base Premium trim at an MSRP of $69,200 offers more than the necessary essential features. It comes with a 10-speaker audio system, 8-way power-adjustable leather front seats, Audi MMI navigation plus infotainment system, and much more for its price. Hence, we consider the 2022 Audi Q8 is a value worth buying for the price.

The upcoming 2022 Audi Q8 may come with an estimated price tag of $70,100-$79,800. With new color options and the rumor of a triple display infotainment system in the highest trim level, we could expect a slight rise in the price tag. Rest assured everything will remain unchanged.

Release Date

There are reports that the upcoming 2022 Audi Q8 should be headed to the dealerships in fall 2021.

2022 Audi Q8 Engine and Performance

The 2022 Audi Q8 will continue with the same 3.0-L Turbo V6 engine with a 48-volt hybrid assist system. The mild-hybrid setup helps to accelerate rapidly from a stop. The V6 mill churns out a whopping amount of 335 hp and 369 lb-ft torque. The power and torque it offers are massive in its class.

It comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. You don't need an introduction to the renowned Quattro AWD setup. The power distribution is done swiftly and smoothly. Overall it provides a refined driving experience along with a minimum body roll. It can also tow up to 7700 pounds when equipped with a towing package. The flagship SUV also comes in SQ8 and RSQ8 variants with more brute power and excellent driving dynamics.

It reached the 0-60 MPH mark in just 5.6 seconds. Also, it finishes its quarter-mile lap in just 14.0 seconds all the credit for such goes to its unsung Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The luxurious crossover SUV clocks a top speed of 155 miles per hour which is well of course electronically limited. It still has enough power on tap if it weren't for the limitations.

The GLE 450 offers the most power among the competition but it also has another variant GLE 350 that comes with a 2.0L Turbo inline 4 which concentrates on fuel economy rather than sheer power and comfort. All cars in the competition come with a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist system in their base trim level. Porsche also offers a hybrid powertrain for an extra cost.

2022 Audi Q8 Fuel Economy

The Audi Q8 seems to have ‘no mercy’ when it comes to MPG figures as it consumes a lot of fuel. It offers 17 MPG in the city, 22 MPG on the highway, and 19 MPG combined. At 22.5 gallons capacity, the fuel tank is quite large but we are not satisfied with the MPG figures. It offers a decent combined range of 427 miles.

As the 2022 Audi Q8 remains unchanged on the mechanical front, it is sure to return the same figures as estimated earlier. The 2022 Audi Q8 offers a city range of 383 miles and a highway range of 473 miles. The BMW X6 and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe come with a similar engine capacity as the Q8 but offer good MPG figures. Porsche comes with the largest fuel tank of them all.

2022 Audi Q8 Interior

The current generation of the Audi Q8 comes with a refreshed interior design and high-quality materials. We are expecting the same superior-looking interior for the upcoming version of the Audi Q8. You get an excellent front, rear, top and side view inside the Q8 but the rear view is not much clear due to its laid back design. The interior boasts a premium design and comfort. The leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with mounted controls.

The passengers get an ample amount of head, shoulder, and legroom. The seats are very well cushioned and the base model can be upholstered as per the customer’s choice with Rock Gray cross-stitching along with various color options. The Prestige trim comes upholstered with perforated Valcona leather in Sardar Brown if you opt for Audi’s Design Selection Package. The seats are well-positioned for a better front view; you get leather eight-way power-adjustable heated seats.

The Premium Plus trim adds some features like four-zone climate control, LED interior lighting package, four-way lumbar control, and a few more. You also get a panoramic sun/moon roof as standard. The infotainment system boasts an expensive look and buttons related to it are placed well to have a better user experience.

Also, as for the interior, there is no change in the standard cargo room offered. 30.5 cubic feet of cargo room will remain as standard and with 40/20/40-split folding rear seats the standard cargo room will increase from 30.5 cubic feet to 60.7 cubic feet. Q8 is the roomiest among the competition while X6 offers the least legroom. Porsche offers the least amount of cargo space in the competition. Some of the notable interior features inside the 2022 Audi Q8 are:

  • 18- way power, heated and ventilated front seats
  • Sliding and split-folding 40/20/40 rear seatbacks
  • Three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles
  • Panoramic sunroof with power sunshade
  • Four-zone automatic climate control
  • Audi virtual cockpit MMI Navigation plus
  • MMI touch response with dual center displays (10.1" upper and 8.6" lower)
  • Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration
  • Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system

2022 Audi Q8 Exterior

Audi got it right in the first try itself when designing the Q8. For the upcoming version, the brand has decided on a handsome and already bold-looking exterior with a wide range of color options. The aggressive and handsome crossover SUV comes packed with a ton of exterior features starting from the base trim level. The exterior dimensions are smaller than the Q7. The Q8 might be based on the Q7 but it features and boasts a more attractive exterior.

The 2022 version will feature the same 20-inch five-double-spoke design wheels with full LED headlights, power rear liftgate, and high-beam assist. The front fascia will slightly be updated and will come with two standard exterior colors: Night Black and Carrara White and more optional colors. Opting for the Audi’s Black Optic package on the Premium Plus trim will add some features like 22-inch Sport Wheels, front and rear bumper inserts, black-colored roof rails, red brake calipers, and a few more.

The Cayenne Coupe is the lightest of them all which is expected as the company tries to make it more agile and dynamic. The sloping roof layout of the Q8 will sharply boast a coupe-like appearance. It will be following the brand’s latest design language to make the front more appealing. Some of the exterior features of the 2022 Audi Q8 are given below:

  • 9 exterior color options
  • LED Taillights with Animation (Prestige Plus trim)
  • 20-inch five-double-spoke design wheels
  • Powered soft-closing four-doors

2022 Audi Q8 Safety

The upcoming version of the Audi Q8 will be built on the same MLB platform architecture. It provides strong and rigid support and keeps the body roll to a minimum. Other than that the German car boasts a lot of interesting and unique safety features.

The 2022 Audi Q8 has not been crash-tested yet but the 2021 version scored five out of five stars in its overall safety. On the other hand, IIHS scored the luxury crossover SUV with a ‘Good’ remark in almost every parameter tested by the organization. The 2021 Q8 also won the ‘Top Safety Pick’ award from IIHS. The following are the standout safety features present in the Q8:

  • Electronic Stability Control with Roll Stability Control
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring System
  • Tire-Pressure Monitoring System
  • Driveline Traction Control
  • Audi Side Assist Blind Spot
  • Night vision assistant with pedestrian and animal detection
  • Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Assist and vehicle exit warning

2022 Audi Q8 Competition

2022 Audi Q8 vs. 2021 BMW X6

Q8 is relatively very expensive when compared to the 2021 BMW X6. Interestingly, the engine capacity on both cars remains the same but they are different on paper (BMW being powerful). The biggest reason why one should go for the 2021 X6 instead of the Q8 is with the MPG on offer. X6 offers amazing MPG figures in the segment along with the premium ride and handling.

2022 Audi Q8 vs. 2021 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

With a similar price tag, there is a lot in common between the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and the Audi Q8 as they come under the same VAG group. But Cayenne offers better driving dynamics than the Q8. The standard cargo room offered by Q8 is much higher than the Cayenne Coupe. Overall, the Audi Q8 performs well and is a better value proposition.

2022 Audi Q8 Final Verdict

The aggressive, bold, and handsome-looking exterior of the Q8 has attracted many. With no major changes slated for the 2022 Audi Q8, the fans will have to wait till the fall of this year for an official press release. Until then let us keep our fingers crossed for the 2022 Audi Q8. We are sure that there will be no compromise with the technological, interior, and safety features but, it would be better if Audi put their keen attention on the MPG figures. Overall, we are pretty sure that the upcoming Audi Q8 will surely not disappoint us in any matter.
