After getting a huge response from the market, Audi has finally released the 2022 Audi RS7 which is now available for sale in your nearest Audi dealership. Changes on the 2022 RS7 have been kept minimal this time. There is a new RS-Design optional package along with more optional features and material choices for the cabin. While the most interesting update this time is the addition of optional Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) which along with the all-wheel steering makes the handling of the RS7 sharper and reduces body roll when going around the bends.

2022 Audi RS7

With the above changes, the RS7 see a couple of grands price bump. Being based on a much lesser expensive Audi A7, the six-figure pricing of the 2022 Audi RS7 seems expensive. But if you look at the pricing of the competition from German carmakers like the BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche the prices not only seem justified but also undercuts most of the rivals. That said, the 2022 RS7 comes only in a single trim which is power-packed with all the latest techs and a monstrous 591-hp, twin-turbo V8 engine delivering an exhilarating and powerful ride.

In front of rival cars like the BMW M8 Gran Coupe, Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S, and Porsche Panamera GTS, the 2022 Audi RS7 only lacks when it comes to gas mileage and performance. Other than that, it has all the qualities and persona that a performance car should usually have. Priced aggressively at $118,500, the 2022 Audi RS7 not only undercuts most of the rival cars but also remains a fairly practical ride. But will it turn out to be a clear-cut winner when pitted against the above cars? Let's find out below.

2022 Audi RS 7 Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The 2022 Audi RS7 will carry the same powertrain that we saw in the 2021 model. The 2022 model will be equipped with a powerful twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that will churn out 591 hp along with 590 lb-ft of torque. All the power is channeled via an eight-speed automatic gearbox to Audi's Quattro AWD system. The Tiptronic eight-speed gearbox is lightning fast and offers smooth shifting. Motivated by the twin-turbo V8 the RS7 can do 0-60 MPH in under four seconds although the rivals are quicker with the BMW M8 and the Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S rocketing from 0-60 MPH in a shade above three seconds.

2022 Audi RS 7 Sedan engine bay

Riding on the adaptive air suspension and had with all-wheel steering as standard the Audi RS7 is phenomenal in terms of ride quality and overall handling. Its razor-sharp handling is best enjoyed on a track or bends while the adaptive air suspension ensures the ride quality isn't compromised in the pursuit of better handling. Opt for the available dynamic ride control made available this year and you can further improve the chassis response of the RS7 while seeing a reduction in overall body roll. As for the brakes, the standard ones are impressive and stop the RS7 in a shade above 150 feet.

The Audi RS7's competitors come with better acceleration timing along with more power and torque on offer from their respective V8 engines. While the slowest and least powerful of the bunch remains the Porsche Panamera GTS but even then it was just two-tenths of a second slower than the RS7 and in the real world that is barely noticeable. Other than that, all these rival cars are potent machines with varying price figures. Thus it all boils down to if you are ready to pay top dollars for the fastest and most powerful BMW M8 Gran Coupe or satisfied with less expensive but almost as potent as the former Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S.

2022 Audi RS 7 Fuel Economy

7.0/10

The fuel economy of the 2022 Audi RS7 will also reflect the same MPG figures as its predecessor as it carries the same powertrain from the previous model. It will give you a range of 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway. With its 19.3-gallon fuel tank, the RS7 can cover a range of 290 miles in the city and 425 miles on the highway between tank fulls.

2022 Audi RS 7 Interior

9.0/10

Audi has given an aggressive design inside the 2022 RS7, which looks very sporty. The color schemes will remain striking and they follow the same design concept which we usually see in other RS cars. Although this year has introduced a more premium Dinamica headliner as an option. While the new RS-Design package includes black seat belts with contrast border, 'RS' badging and contrast stitching on floor mats, and a new flat-bottom Alcantara steering wheel along with Alcantara trimmed center console and gear shifter

2022 Audi RS 7 Sedan front seats

Step inside the cabin and you will a lot of similarities between this one and the A7's cabin. Although minor differences in the form of seat materials and RS badging have been done here and there to make it stand apart. The RS7 boasts seating for five with the front seats being the most comfortable as they come with heating and ventilation function along with the option of massaging function. This time they have integrated maximum functionalities on the display screen itself which can be accessed by the touch of your fingers.

2022 Audi RS 7 Sedan infotainment screen

As far as its infotainment system is concerned, it will have the same MMI unit that we saw in its previous model. Thus the 2022 RS7 will carry the same 12.3-inch display, the quality of which is superb with good viewing angles. Other than that, it will have features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for a better experience. As standard you get Bang & Olufsen premium sound system which can be upgraded to a more premium 19-speaker 1820-watts Bang & Olufsen surround sound system.

2022 Audi RS 7 Exterior

9.0/10

The 2022 Audi RS7 follows the same look and characteristics as the Audi A7. At very first glance, you will be amazed by the aggressive design that includes a sloping roofline giving it a sportier look. But the dimensions of its body are a little extended when compared to the A7.

2022 Audi RS7 Sedan

At the front, the Matrix LED lights don’t have a sharp or edgy design but it still looks classy. It also gets optional ceramic brakes that not only look good but improve braking and take the top speed to 190 MPH. Other than that, the honeycomb pattern grille and the large side vents help differentiate the RS7 from the regular A7 model.

2022 Audi RS 7 Safety

9.0/10

The 2022 Audi RS7 is based on the same chassis and structure that is available on Audi A7. The 2022 RS7 or for that matter even the 2021 model has not been tested yet by NHTSA or IIHS. If we look at the safety assessment tests of Audi A7 the body structure of which is mostly shared by RS7 models is also very good, and it performed exceptionally in both NHTSA and IIHS safety assessments. Also, the 2021 Audi A7 bagged the 'Top Safety Pick+' award from IIHS. So, we are expecting no less safety rating if the 2022 RS7 is tested by the federal agencies.

2022 Audi RS 7 Competition

8.0/10

2022 Audi RS7 vs 2021 BMW M8

Right away, the most obvious difference between the two is their style elements. While the RS7 gives the impression of being sleek and streamlined, the M8 seems bulky and aggressive. Both have their merits and you might prefer one over the other.

2021 BMW M8 Gran Coupe

The M8 is more performance-oriented in our opinion, while the RS7, although having great performance, might seem overshadowed by the M Badge heritage. It all comes down to price, which gives the RS7 a massive lead.

2022 Audi RS7 vs 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo

The obvious difference between the two cars is the price. The RS7 is relatively cheaper than the Panamera GTS. The Panamera matches the performance, cabin and cargo space offered on the RS7.

2021 Porsche Panamera GTS

Although the aggressive styling on the RS7, along with its tighter handling and quicker acceleration, makes it a better fit for people who prioritize thrill over practicality.

2022 Audi RS7 vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S

Not only is the RS7 unprecedentedly heavier than the AMG E 63 S here, but it is also more expensive. All while managing performance numbers lower than its AMG E 63 S. The AMG E 63 S not only manages slightly better fuel economy but also is more spacious and comfortable on the inside.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Sedan

These differences and the lower price tag, make the AMG E 63 S strike a notch above and be a more compelling option against the RS7.

2022 Audi RS 7 Final Verdict

8.0/10

After looking closely at all the facts & figures, we would say the 2022 Audi RS7 will indeed be a great choice over its competitors. Although its rivals have their plus points, Audi as a brand has proved its quality and improved immensely over the years. With unrealistic power mated with the superb build quality and luxury, the 2022 Audi RS7 surely is a better ride choice over the pricier rivals from BMW and Porsche.
