Engine and Performance
9.6/10

The 2021 Audi S5 Sportback engine is a 3.0L turbocharged V6 unit that makes 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. The powertrain uses Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive technology, which channels power to all the wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox unit. This Tiptronic unit allows you to take manual control of the shifts with the paddle shifters, which makes your drive more engaging. Performance from this engine is truly impressive. It takes just 4.5 seconds for it to hit the 60 mph mark, while the quarter-mile timing is recorded as 13.0 seconds and the car is electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph.

The C 43 AMG has the biggest bi-turbo motor which produces superior power figures, still, it lacks in its initial acceleration. Whereas, the S5 Sportback with significantly lesser power figures, performs better than the C43 and the Kia Stinger GT2. The BMW M340i is the fastest to hit the 60 mph mark, and the quarter-mile mark as well.

How does the 2021 Audi S5 Sportback handle?

The handling and ride of this car are some of its highlight features. Thanks to the Quattro AWD system that really enhances the grip and control. However, the steering feels somewhat artificial and lacks feedback. It gets various drive select options that configure the car according to the driving conditions. The comfort mode helps in a softer ride and delivering better fuel economy, while the dynamic mode stiffens the suspensions and makes the motor more aggressive.

Braking Performance

To handle all the power from the engine, the 2021 Audi S5 Sportback needs equally good brakes. The front rotors are 13.8 inches in diameter while the rear gets 13.0-inch rotors, plus it benefits from four-wheel ABS that really helps in aggressive braking. The stopping distance is missing for the cars, but you can expect a great braking performance, considering the size of the rotors and each car being their respective brand's performance-oriented version.

Fuel Economy
6.7/10

Along with an extremely impressive performance, the 2021 Audi S5 Sportback mpg figures are great as well and are very close to some non-performance sedans. Its V6 motor delivers 20 MPG in city driving conditions, while on the highways the figures jump up to 28 MPGs. It can hold up to 15.3 gallons of fuel that will easily offer you a driving range of over 300 miles in the city and over 400 miles on the highways.

Interior
8.9/10

Yes, the 2021 Audi S5 Sportback interior is definitely a nice place to be in. Audi always provides an elegant yet sporty cabin throughout their lineup, and the S5 Sportback is no different. The steering wheel, shift knob, center console, and seats, offer a sporty outlook in the cabin. The top of the dash is firmly wrapped in soft-touch material and the infotainment panel is placed on the top of it. The AC vents are cleverly hidden behind the thin strips, which also contributes to adding sporty design elements. The doors have some gloss black treatment, while the armrest and the grab handle are wrapped in leather with fine stitching on them.

All the cars here provide seating for 5, however, the S5 Sportback has pretty good headroom at the front. Otherwise, all the cars have nearly identical cabin dimensions on offer. The rear room of all the cars in the segment is a little cramped room due to their lower roofline. Apart from that, the Stinger GT2 offers a capacious trunk, and the S5 Sportback comes in the next. The C 43 has the smallest trunk in the segment.

Some of the standout features of the interior are:

  • 12-way power-adjustable seats with heating and massaging function
  • Leather/Alcantara upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic AC
  • Auto-dimming IRVM
  • Paddle shifters
  • Aluminum pedals

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2021 Audi S5 Sportback gets a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen display, which is paired with Bang and Olufsen's premium 3D sound system. The display is standard across the trim levels and has excellent graphics and a fluidic touch response as well, which makes it absolutely intuitive. The Premium Plus and Prestige are also equipped with Audi’s virtual cockpit that displays navigation with real-time traffic info, vehicle status, and much more.

The infotainment unit offers all the generic features like AM/FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, AUX inputs, and many more.

But some of the truly remarkable features on offer are:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen display with MMI interface
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D surround sound system(optional)
  • Audi’s virtual cockpit
  • Speed compensated volume control
Exterior
9.6/10

The 2021 Audi S5 Sportback retains the charm of the ‘S’ series of the Audi with the sloping roofline, which gives a coupe-like stance, though it is a sedan. The exterior features lots of sharp cuts and creases, especially on the hood, which helps in enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency and adds a sporty look to it. Like the ‘S’ line-up, S5 Sportback features a honeycomb grille in all black, and the side air vents are also encircled with the same. The headlamps look sharp and feature a projector LED set up along with DRLs. From the side profile, its 18-inch alloys and the sloping roofline are the main highlights of it. While at the rear, you’ll get four exhaust tips, which are all functional. The tail lamps feature an LED setup, which is also designed to give it an aggressive look.

The Kia Stinger GT2 has the most heft out of all the cars here, which also affects its performance as well as the fuel economy. It also wears an aggressive and appealing exterior design but lacks the charm of the German sedans in the segment. The BMW M340i gets the brand’s new kidney grille design and combined with the aggressive bumper design with the blacked-out air dams, the car wears an unmistakable street presence. The Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 looks like a souped-up C Class sedan especially due to the extensive AMG treatments throughout the vehicle. It is slightly more compact than the S5 Sportback as per the on-paper dimensions.

Some remarkable exterior features are:

  • Honeycomb front grille design
  • Matrix LED headlamps
  • Quad exhausts
  • 18-inch alloys (20-inch optional)
  • Heated side-view mirrors
Safety
8.0/10

2021 Mercedes AMG C 43
