Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2022 Continental GT Speed will be available in single trim configuration and one must be ready to experience utmost opulence and tire-shredding performance before buying one. The 2022 model will also offer electronic all-wheel steering and torque vectoring for better agility and confidence-inspiring handling. It will face competition from known maestros like McLaren GT, Aston Martin DB11, and Rolls-Royce Wraith

The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed will be available in a single configuration only. The price is expected to start at $275,000. For that price, you can expect a powerful W-12 engine, sassy styling, luxurious interiors, physics-defying handling, modern cabin technology, and high safety quotient as well. Bentley is known to use all its wizardry for creating exclusive and hand-stitched interiors which are second to none. We expect the same experience to come to the 2022 model and it surely will. It will also offer a modern infotainment system with a premium audio setup to make your every ride a memorable one.

We Recommend

As there is only one trim to choose from, you’ll have to go for it only. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it avoids confusion and buyers get the very best of Bentley in single trim only. The GT Speed is surely worthy to be in an art museum. For the exorbitant price you pay, you get exclusive features also. It will come with many premium and luxurious features to make you feel pampered inside the cabin.

Some of them are Nappa leather upholstery, Alacantara pillars, and headliners, diamond-in-diamond quilting for the seats, multi-zone automatic climate control system, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating function, and many more. You can also opt for many optional features like carbon fiber dashboard, LED welcome lighting, heated windscreen, Bentley branded brake calipers in red, additional exterior paint color options, and many more. But be aware that the optional features have the ability to break your bank for sure.

2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed Release Date

Bentley has officially not released a specific timeline for the launch of the 2022 Continental GT Speed Coupe but we expect it to be later this year and we expect a price hike, especially after the post-pandemic times.

Engine and Performance

The 2022 Bentley Continental GT speed Coupe will not be for the faint-hearted. It will be equipped with a massive 6.0L twin-turbo W-12 engine producing about 650 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission for seamless shifts and better response times. A W-configuration is more compact than a V-configuration and provides more space for other components under the hood. The monstrous power will be transferred to all four wheels.

Bentley has also implemented all wheel steering and torque vectoring by electronically limited-slip differential which aids with more agility. The GT Speed is expected to do a 0-60 mph run in under 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile drag would be completed in about 11.7 seconds. The performance can be considered as mind-boggling especially when considering its curb weight of 5029 pounds. The ginormous torque from the engine will be felt at much lower rpm, thanks to the special calibration done for the GT Speed trim.

The Rolls-Royce Wraith is equipped with the largest engine of the lot and offers the second-best power output after the Continental GT Speed. The Wraith does a 0-60mph sprint in about 4.1 seconds, about 0.6 seconds slower than the GT Speed. The McLaren GT is equipped with the smallest engine and is not the most powerful in the comparison but still offers better performance owing to its lesser curb weight and aerodynamic styling. The Aston Martin DB11 is no slouch and does a 0-60 mph sprint in about 3.7 seconds, just 0.2 seconds slower despite being less powerful than it.

Fuel Economy

When comparing performance cars, fuel efficiency figures hardly matter but comparing them doesn’t hurt either. The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed is equipped with a retuned W-12 engine producing more power than before and it is not expected to be fuel efficient but will be very much in league with other cars in the segment. As EPA has not tested the 2022 model, so we don’t have the accurate efficiency figures for the 2022 model.

But we expect it to be very similar to the 2021 model and thus the 2022 GT Speed will offer about 12 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 15 mpg in mixed driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 24 gallons, it can travel up to 285 miles in the city, 399 miles on the highway, and 323 miles in combined driving conditions.

* Expected and 2021 data used for reference

The Aston Martin DB11 and McLaren GT are equipped with smaller engines and hence are more fuel-efficient as well. They offer about 17 mpg and 18 mpg respectively in mixed driving conditions. The DB11 offers the maximum range under mixed conditions from its 20.5-gallon fuel tank, followed by GT Speed from a larger 24-gallon fuel tank. The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the least efficient of the lot and offers the least range as well.

The 2022 Bentley GT Speed will offer one of the best interiors that you can find in a performance coupe. It has been a traditional practice for Bentley to offer the best quality materials and handcrafted interiors for its valued customers. Even in the 2022 model, the cabin layout will be a combination of elegance and sportiness. It will come in a 2+2 seating configuration and all the seats will be trimmed in Nappa leather upholstery. The front seats will offer heated functionality as well.

The front seats will be 12-way power-adjustable and come with a memory function. All over the cabin, you’ll observe the diamond-in-diamond type of quilting to seats, door casing, and rear quarter panels as well. The steering column will be tilt and reach adjustable with power assistance. The steering will be Alcantara trimmed and come with heating functionality as well. To make your driving experience, even more, sportier, paddle shifters will be provided as well. Also to make the cabin ambiance illuminated and tune it as per your mood, you’ll get ambient lighting as well

Cargo capacity (cu-ft.)*

* Expected and 2021 data used for reference

All the cars except the McLaren GT can accommodate up to four passengers. The Rolls-Royce Wraith offers the maximum cargo capacity of 13 cu-ft and is definitely more practical than its competition. The Continental GT Speed coupe is also quite close to the Wraith in terms of practicality with its 12.6 cu-ft of cargo space. The Aston Martin DB11 offers just 9.5 cu-ft of cargo space while the McLaren GT is the least practical of the lot and offers just 5.3cu-ft of space. Some of the standout interior features of the Continental GT Speed are:

  • Unique Speed colorway
  • 12-way power front seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Piano black veneer
  • Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Multi-zone automatic climate control
  • Alcantara trimmed steering wheel

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2022 Continental GT Speed Coupe will offer a well-equipped infotainment system. A 12.3-inch high-resolution display will be a part of the 3-way rotating center stack. The second side contains three analog gauges for time, compass, and exterior temperature while the third side contains a plain side of the instrument console. So, it all depends on what you’ll like to use. It will offer features like a single DVD/CD slot, two SD card slots, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming, proximity sensors, and hard key controls as standard.

For smartphone connectivity, you’ll get access to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well. A 60 GB of solid SSD support will be provided as well to store all your data and the navigation system will be provided with features like text-to-speak, voice destination, and 3-D building display. For a pleasant musical experience, a 10-speaker Bentley audio system with 650-W output will also come as standard. For better output and clarity, you can also opt for Bang and Olufsen or Naim audio systems. Some of the standout infotainment features of the Continental GT Speed are:

  • A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • Android Auto
  • Apple Carplay
  • Navigation system
  • 4G LTE telephone module
  • 10-speaker Bentley audio system
  • Optional Bang and Olufsen audio system
  • Optional Naim audio system
  • Digital radio
  • Advance music interface
  • 60 GB solid-state drive

The 2022 Continental GT Speed will be a perfect combination of elegance and impressive form factor merged together. The retro styling and performance that can put many supercars to shame is surely a compelling package. The front fascia imbibes two circular LED headlamps and adjacent two circular indicators complement it well. The front black tint grille on the GT sport lends it an aggressive look.

The side profile is as sassy as it can get, thanks to a typical coupe sliding roof design. A larger set of 22-inch alloy wheels available in different finishes like silver, black or dark tinted accentuates the overall look of the car. The rear profile is exciting as well with its oval-shaped LED taillamps above the two oval exhaust finishers. The rear design surely marks the importance of symmetricity.

Curb Weight (lbs) *

Width (inches)*

Height (inches)*

Ground Clearance (inches)*

Wheelbase (inches)*

* Expected and 2021 data used for reference

The Continental GT-Speed is surely a bulky car at 5029 pounds but the performance from its powerful W-12 engine won’t let you feel all that bulk. The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the bulkiest car in the lot. It is also longer, taller, and sits on a longer wheelbase than its rivals. The GT Speed offers decent ground clearance and a longer wheelbase than the McLaren GT and Aston Martin DB11. The McLaren GT is the lightest car and it shows in its performance as well. The DB11 is also lighter than the Bentley and Rolls-Royce and is more efficient as well. Some of the standout exterior features of the Continental GT Speed are:

  • Speed fender badge
  • Speed sport sills
  • Jewel fuel filler and oil cap
  • Full LED matrix headlamps
  • Acoustic side glass
  • Heated rear screen
  • Two oval exhaust finishers
  • Dark tint granite painted radiator matrix

The 2022 Continental GT Speed is surely a masterpiece when it comes to its interior and exterior features but it's surely safe as well. It is based on the 2021 model and we expect the same level of safety quotient from the upcoming model. The NHTSA and IIHS have not tested it yet as it’s a low volume car and it’s priced well above $270,000 making it quite exclusive to the general audience. So, we don’t think that it will be tested any time soon. However, Bentley claims that the car’s chassis is made of reinforced architecture that helps absorb collision energy well and away from the occupants.

It will also be equipped with all-wheel steering and active torque vectoring with a limited slip differential, making it agile and more controllable. It will also get Bentley Dynamic Ride electric active roll control system for better control and stability around corners. Along with the usual passive safety features, it will also be equipped with active safety features for ensuring safety of passengers. Some of the standout safety features of the 2022 Continental GT Speed are:

  • Exit Warning
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Park Assist
  • Engine stop/start button
  • Alarm and immobiliser
  • Reversing camera
  • Collision prevention assist
  • Active anti-roll system

2022 Continental GT Speed vs 2022 McLaren GT

The McLaren GT is a more focussed performance GT as compared to the Continental GT Speed. It’s the lightest Grand Touring vehicle in its class and boasts of class leading acceleration times despite being less powerful than its competitors. It is more fuel efficient as well. The Continental GT is like a luxury suite on wheels and every detail is handcrafted for perfection. Surely, it handles well but can’t match the McLaren GT which might just be a better cornering and track tool than the Continental GT Speed. The McLaren GT is short on seating capacity and cargo capacity as well. It is also more easy on the pocket with considerably lesser price than the Continental GT.

2022 Continental GT Speed vs 2022 Aston Martin DB11

The Aston Martin DB11 is surely a beauty that handles like a charm and sounds even better. The Aston Martin DB11 is one of the legendary sport car companies from the UK which still gives many well-established brands a run for their money. It’s less powerful than the Continental GT but the performance is quite similar and it is more fuel efficient as well. In terms of interiors, both are on par but the Continental GT surely leads ahead in terms of a better infotainment system. The Aston Martin DB11 also comes in 2+2 seater configuration but lacks in the cargo capacity department. If you are a James Bond fan you’ll surely like the Aston Martin more and if you are a queen fan then you would opt for the Continental GT. So, it's up to you to select one as both are very capable performance coupes in their own respective way.

2022 Continental GT Speed vs 2022 Rolls-Royce Wraith

The Rolls-Royce Wraith is surely a beast in terms of its sheer size and price as well. The monstrous V-12 engine is enough to move this bulky car fast and hit a ton in about 4.1 seconds. It’s an epitome of perfection and performance merged into one single package. The Continental GT is more powerful than the Wraith despite having a smaller engine. It is also more fuel efficient as well. If you thought that the Continental GT was exclusive and expensive then you should see the Rolls-Royce Wraith which is way more expensive and exclusive than you can ever think of.

Final Verdict

The Bentley Continental GT is surely a formidable name in its segment and for many good reasons. It blends performance and luxury into one package so well that it's hard to choose any other luxury coupe. It comes with a reasonably good safety quotient as well and can be had with many customisations of your choice. It is surely not meant for the general audience and only a privileged few can own one but it’s definitely worth it considering the attention to detail and sheer attention that you’ll receive once you are in the car. If your bank won’t break, you can definitely consider it.
