Detailed Review

Stylish, Elegant and power-packed, these adjectives fit perfectly in the description of the BMW 3 Series Grand Tourers. This is the 6th year for these muscled up hunks suited up in metal which run on the roads to catch your attention with their elegance.

Despite no major upgrades, the BMW 3 series GTs still take their stand amongst the other luxury sedans and GTs of the class. It gives a neck to neck competitions to muscled up tourers and other mid-sized luxury sedans such as the Dodge Charger GT, Kia Stinger GT, Chrysler 300, Genesis G80, etc.

Expert Review

CARHP Editorial April 9, 2019

However the BMW 3 series GTs do not get any major upgrades even this year. They are still available in two trims with the 330i being the base trim and then its elder brother the 340i. The base 330i comes available at a price of $45,400 and the 340i is available at a price of $51,250.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Features

The 2019 BMW 3 series GT comes in two trims namely the 330i xDrive and the 340i xdrive. The base 330i is priced $45,400 and comes with a 2.0 Liter turbo charged inline 4 engine. The 340i is priced at $51,250 with a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline 6 engine.

Speaking of the features both the brothers have most of the standard features in common. However, the 340i gets a sports steering and the convenience package is standard on this trim. Moreover the Hifi sound system in the 330i trim gets replaced by the Harman Kardon system in the 340i.

The standard 330i hits the sweet spot as it comes loaded with all the features you will require. You can add the high performance track package which adds variable sport steering and M-Sport brakes. The Driving Assistance Package is a notable available extra and includes frontal collision and pedestrian warning, lane departure warning and automated braking systems.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Engine

"The 2019 BMW 330i is better than the car it replaces in every measurable way: particularly from behind the wheel with boosts in power, improved steering feel, and, though we'll have to wait for official EPA figures to see how much it beats the old model's 24 city and 34 highway, greater efficiency".- Auto blog

Both the trims of the 2019 BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo class get quite powerful with the two different engines they come equipped with. The 330i comes with a 2.0 liter twinpower turbocharged inline 4 engine which churns out a horsepower of 248hp and a torque of 258 lb.ft. On the other hand its elder brother the 340i gets a 3.0 liter twin power turbocharged engine which is capable of generating a horse power of 320hp and a 330 lb.ft torque.

Moreover both the engines come paired with a quite smooth and quick eight speed automatic transmission and are equipped with the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

The inline-6 engine of the 2019 BMW 340i is one of the most power-packed engines in the class. Although the Kia Stinger GT is equipped with a more powerful engine than the 340i, the others in the class line up after it.

Acceleration

Looks like both the siblings of the 2019 BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo class are quite performers. The 330i is capable of accelerating to 60MPH in 5.9 seconds, whereas the 340i takes 4.7 seconds to attain the same speed.

The powerful inline 6 engine of the BMW 340i puts in amongst the topline performers amongst the competition. Although here also Kia stinger wins the race, the 340i just takes the position just next to it by 0.3 seconds.

Ride and handling

The 3 series GTs have always been well balanced and behaved when it comes to handling. The feedback from the steering is quite weighed and smooth. Even in steep curvy paths, it maneuvers with elegance. This ride is quite grippy even at high speeds and instills confidence in the driver without varying from its path.

Moreover its Driving Dynamic Control system comes with 4 modes namely the ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes. In the ECO PRO mode the ride get adjusted for optimum output while not consuming much fuel. The Comfort mode is for a lazy ride for experiencing the leisure while running in parallel with the city scapes. Although when shifted to Sport and Sport plus modes, the pedals get tight and the engine gets aggressive and starts revving like a beast that has just been unleashed.

Braking

The braking system of the 2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Tourismo is quite smooth yet highly effective. The do not feels so grabby and stops and runs in a linear flow with ease while running on the traffic loaded city loads. However they might lag behind a bit when it comes to panic emergency braking situations.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Interior

"For over 40 years, the BMW 3 Series has been the car that best demonstrated BMW's long-running slogan, 'the Ultimate Driving Machine.' In the 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan, the legend continues unabated albeit in a larger, more luxurious and more powerful version.as good as the competition is, none has ever been able to capture that perfect balance of luxury, performance, power and styling in quite the same way the 3 Series does." - Kellybluebook

The interior built quality of the 2019 BMW 3 series GT is quite excellent. You could expect nothing less from a Tourer like it. Quite comfortable, luxurious and spacious interior support you take a long ride without any inconvenience. However has a bit of congested legroom in the back which might become a little inconvenient for the ones in the back.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Exterior

"The sedan's lines are still attractive, helped by its classic profile and rear-wheel-drive tendencies. Its shapely hood and kidney-shaped grille are BMW hallmarks, and help future-proof it against a new generation of the 3-Series that's surely coming soon." -The Car Connection

The 2019 BMW 3 series grand tourismo has not gone through much changes in terms of design for the past couple of years unlike its sedan siblings. However it still feels grand and elegant yet sporty and doesn't diverge from the trend for a midsize GT.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Competition

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Tourismo vs Kia stinger GT

The 2019 Kia stinger GT is fast, powerful and is quite a performer, but seems mostly like a muscle car than a GT. On the other hand the BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo might be a little less than the Kia Stinger GT still it offers many things that is expected from a Grand Tourer. It has an excellent fuel economy, luxurious and comfortable interiors, and shows both subtle and aggressive behavior at time as per the need.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Tourismo vs Dodge Charger GT

The 2019 Dodge Charger GT, the grand touring version of the one and only 4 door muscle sedan that exists. It is the car that bridges the gap between power packed performance and a soothing and comfortable ride. However the BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo is a better GT than this Charger. It performs better, is less thirsty, technologically more updated, and more abundantly loaded up with luxuries. However at the end the price being paid for them might turn your minds towards the Charger.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Tourismo vs Genesis G 80

The 2019 Genesis G80 sedan might not be a Grand Tourer but still feels like one. It is not just the car that you use for your day to day life in the city. It provides you with a comfortable rides when you are going on a long drive spree. But when compared to the BMW 3 series GT, it is less powerful. The #series GT is a better performer and is also less thirsty. So if you can pay around a $10,000, the BMW is a better option to go for.

2019 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Final Verdict

The 2019 BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo is a midsize luxury vehicle, which maintains all the aspects such as comfort, luxury, ride quality and technical and technological accessibility in a well-balanced manner. It also behaves well even when at high speeds. But there are also others in the class which provide all these at a low price but they all lag behind in terms of quality somewhere or the other. So you are convinced with the price then go for the BMW 3 series Gran Tourismo.
