Detailed Review

The BMW 4 series gran coupe is essentially a svelte 3 series sedan that throws in the styling of a coupe with the practicality of a 4 door sedan. The 4 series has been in the market for about three years and competes with the likes of Audi A5 Sportback. The 2017 BMW 4 series gran coupe witnesses a major overhaul both in terms of design and performance

The car features enhanced interiors that BMW claims are a class apart and worth the premium over the regular 3 series sedan. However, the car does indeed look strikingly similar to its lesser priced siblings except for the slightly bigger proportions and the sloping roof.

Acceleration

0-60 mph is reached in an eye-watering 4.9 seconds on the 2017 BMW 4 series Gran Coupe. The acceleration comes at a brisk pace while not being too over the top. The NVH levels never allow making the occupants feel how fast the car is accelerating.

Ride and Handling

The Gran Coupe is a big and hefty car and it is more than evident in the overall handling of the car. The adaptive dampers and low ride height corrects unwanted movement to a large extent but it is still not completely eliminated

But, the car still feels modestly enthusiastic and loves to reach its top figures without much fatigue or stress.

Braking

The BMW features a set of 13-inch brake rotors in the front and 11.8-inch rotors at the rear. The vehicle is able to screech to a halt from 60 mph in under 108 feet which is a monumental achievement from a vehicle as heavy as it is.

9.0/10

The 4 Series Gran Coupe four-door does not get top marks because entry and exit, space and visibility are compromised by its stylish roofline. - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The front seats on the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe feature a legroom of 42.2 inches and are certainly the benchmark in its segment. They are comfortable to sit on for long durations as they offer optimum thigh support and enough room for the legs to rest comfortably. The rear seats, however, are cramped due to the sloping roofline.

2017 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Competition

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Sedan vs Mercedes C300

The C300 has long been the part of the luxury sedan segment and enjoys of modest fan following and heritage. The interiors are neat and straightforward. The build of the car is rock solid and so is the engine.

However, the Merc looks rather plain and simple in front of the much more stylish BMW.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Sedan vs Cadillac ATS

The ATS undercuts the 4 Series Gran Coupe by almost $6,000 and for good reason. Although the car features a robust and everlasting exterior, it is no match for the stylish BMW. Even though the Cadillac is more powerful but it is not as refined as the Beemer.

If the budget isn’t an issue, the Gran Coupe certainly takes the crown in a comparison between these two cars.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Sedan vs Audi A4 Premium

The A4 is close enough to the BMW in terms of design styling and engine detailing. Meanwhile, the power output of the Audi is a benchmark at such price point, $3000 less than the BMW. It all depends on personal choices, whether you need a BMW or an Audi.

2017 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Final Verdict

The 2017 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a fine car inside out without a doubt. The car has a solid looking exterior with, especially good looking DRLs and Xenon headlamps. The interior story is a little awry due to a cluttered dashboard but the overall quality of materials used does justice to the badge and the price tag. The rear seats are a bit too cramped for adults but overall, the Gran Coupe is a series contender if you’re looking for a stylish luxury sedan.
