Engine

7.8/10

As a larger coupe, the 2017 BMW 6 Series puts greater emphasis on touring comfort than sporty performance. That said, the vast majority of drivers will enjoy the amount of power from the 640i as well as its ability to corner confidently thanks to a well-tuned suspension. On the highway, the cabin remains pleasantly quiet and the ride quality is smooth over road imperfection - Edmunds

In spite of possessing low power and torque counts, the beemer shows impressive results in the acceleration segment. The car takes only 4.9 seconds in attaining a speed of 60 MPH from still in the 0-60 mph acceleration test. The 0-60 results are impressive and best among competitors. The quarter-mile results are again impressive, as the car covers a quarter-mile of distance in just 13.6 seconds from still.

The Merc posts similar acceleration figures to the BMW. It gives a cut-throat competition to the latest 640i in acceleration segment. The G90 and Panamera are outshined by the BMW.

Ride and Handling

The best part of the 6-series is its interiors and riding experience The car has the premium feel along with powerful acceleration. BMW has done well in the comfort and seating segment, as the seats are adjustable and comfortable but not spacious as competitors.

The handling experience for the BMW is confident, the car easily passes through narrow corners and rugged roads with its adaptive suspension dampers. The 8-Speed Automatic transmission was smooth and fast, especially in the sports mode. The car features various modes, from which a user can choose according to its needs and mood.

The riding experience is good with the 640i, but if you are looking for something thrilling and raw, 650i is here for you with a powerful V8, bigger alloys and premium speaker system. At last, the BMW 640i impressed us with its acceleration, interiors, and handling.

Exterior

"The recently redesigned nose on the 2017 BMW 6 Series is subtly effective, with the number of vertical bars in each "kidney" now nine instead of 10. The rear end looks menacing when viewed head-on, which is just as it should be. But whether you choose Coupe, Gran Coupe or Convertible, a 6 Series boasts an athletic profile, defined by a long hood and a striking crease that's nearly the length of the body"- KBB

Dimensions and Weight

The BMW coupe's exteriors feature frameless doors, large bonnet grills and adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beam fog lights. The main highlights of the exteriors are 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, and automatic wipers. The car features a smaller wheelbase of 112.4, quite compact for its class.

The 3.3-Liter Twin Turbo V6 engine in the G90 Genesis features better power and torque counts when compared to the Beemer. The former excels in passenger capacity (rear seats) and ground clearance. On the other hand, the 6-Series outshines the Genesis in braking, acceleration, fuel economy and cargo capacity.

Mercedes Benz CLS vs BMW 6-series

BMW and Merc CLS are major competitors of each other in the segment. Mercedes is equipped with a more powerful 4.7-Liter V8 Biturbo engine with impressive power and torque counts. Its acceleration is almost the same as the 640i, owing to the former's curb weight. The CLS 550 excels in segments like braking, ground clearance, and passenger volume when compared with the BMW. On the other hand, 640i outshines the CLS 550 in segments like fuel economy, cargo capacity and infotainment system.

Porsche Panamera vs BMW 6-series

BMW's engine features better acceleration, and the torque count is slightly higher in the Porsche Panamera. The 640i excels in segments like ground clearance, braking, fuel economy, and infotainment system while the Porsche outshines it in segments like cargo capacity, passenger volume, and rear-seating.

Final Verdict

2017 BMW 640i coupe is equipped with a decent engine along with impressive acceleration and riding experience. The latest 640i offers premium exteriors, luxury interiors, impressive fuel-economy, powerful braking, and decent cargo capacity while it lacks in some segments like passenger volume and rear seat dimensions.
