2020 BMW 8 Series Complete In-depth Review & Buying Guide

The 8-series Gran Coupe is expected to sport either a 6-liter turbo inline-6, same as the one seen on M3 but in a lower state of tune, or the 4.4 turbo V8 on the M5, also in a lower state of tune. These motors will be tuned for mid- and low-range torque, to improve drivability within the city. Performance wouldn’t be the first priority, although you would be wrong to call this car slow.

Expert Review

CARHP Editorial March 25, 2019

BMW 8-series is perhaps one of the most beautiful modern cars to be revealed in recent history. The enormous length of the hood and the aggressive styling cues lend it an extremely sporty aura, but with no compromise on luxury. Of course, space inside is at a premium, with the car built only for 2 people. No worries though, as BMW seems to have that bit covered as well.

Gran coupe is just a fancy name for 4-door coupe. BMW currently has two Gran coupe models on sale, the 4-series and 6-series. These Gran Coupe models are longer than the other 4-series and 6-series models, in order to have proper accommodation for 4 (or even 5) passengers. While the 4-series is available as both a 2-door coupe and a 2-door convertible alongside the Gran Coupe model, the 6-series only offers a 2-door convertible as an alternative.

It is also expected that the 8-series Gran Coupe will replace the one on the 6-series, which is quite an outdated model (also due for a replacement soon), and will be the flagship vehicle of the German Auto giant.

A slightly camouflaged model was seen making rounds near BMW’s headquarters in Munich. The proportions of the car are a bit different, owing to the stretched length and wheelbase. Its looks very well styled though, which not many creases and folds on the exterior. The silhouette is closer to a sedan than a coupe, and the sloping roofline is only prominent over the thick C-pillar. The head and tail lights are extremely slick, almost resembling a knife. To say that the new deign philosophy is sharp would be an understatement.

Interior

The space inside will definitely improve as compared to the standard 8-series coupe, although the sloping roofline might limit the rear headroom a little. The 8-series will also feature the “Hey BMW” on-board virtual assistant that has been introduced in the 2019 BMW 3-series sedan. As for the exact space in the cabin and trunk, we’d have to either wait for the launch, or for BMW to release some official figures.

Details for the 2020 8-series Gran Coupe will be updated as soon as they are available, so be sure to check in regularly!
