Engine and Transmission

More power is always better, but the base 230i is plenty good for us.” -thecarconnection

Under the hood is a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, churning out 335 horses and peak torque of 369. These numbers don’t just sit feeling enormous; deciphering them on tarmac is as simple as jabbing the throttle, allowing the raw power of this convertible throw you back in your seat. The BMW M240i is propelled via the rear wheels in this review where its driving dynamics is just incredibly athletic. Notwithstanding sportiness, there is a sense of sophisticated smoothness that is inculcated from its 2-series counterpart.

In terms of its rivalry, the M240i boasts impressive figures in the same league as its competition. The highest output is grabbed by the Mercedes AMG C 43 while the Audi S5 and the BMW follow.

In its prancing from 0-60 mph, the Beemer sprints in 4.7s and 13.2s in the quarter mile, one of the quickest in the lot and in itself a commendable performance. However, revering in the top spot is the AMG C 43 that is midly quicker than the Beemer, albeit by a minimal distance. On the other hand, you’d find the Nissan 370Z the slowest in the field. The BMW M240i convertible is capable of running on par with the Mercedes C 43 Cabriolet which seems to be the most powerful one amongst the competition.

Handling and Steering

The BMW knows comes with a tad stiff ride. It is equipped with various features like the double-pivot spring and strut-type front suspension, Five-link fully independent rear suspension, Twin-tube gas-pressure shock absorbers, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). Apart from that its Dynamic Driving control comes with various modes such as ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes to customize your drive as per your need with ease.

As the manufacturer been famed for, the M240i is one of the best handlers in the market with a combo of remarkable driving experience and agility added with nimbleness and athleticism. The steering however is a tad heavy in feeling but there is a good feeling of feedback that is returned. Ride over even or even uneven surface, there exists a tad body movement.

Braking

The front brake of BMW M240i measures 13.4-inch while the rear brake consists of 0.2 bigger disc. There exists a well-balanced performance with good pedal travel and feel. In its stopping distance from 60-0 mph, the Beemer takes 107 feet to come to a standstill, and is consequently beaten by a mere feet distance by the Audi S5 and the Silver Arrow’s C 43.

2018 BMW M240i Convertible Competition

Audi S5 Cabriolet

The 2018 Audi S5 Cabriolet is a tad powerful than the BMW M240i convertible. However when it comes to performance and other aspect, the BMW seems to be a better option with  an economic price. In terms of its interior, the 4-ringed convertible has well-placed controls with high quality materials used across the cabin and dash. It all depends on the pricing; if you're ready to shell out a couple of more dollars, the Audi S5 is still an excellent buy.

Mercedes C 43 Cabriolet

The 2018 Mercedes C 43 Cabriolet is quite powerful and gives out a performance on par with the M240i. Also it looks quite aggressive when on the run. But when it comes to the interior space the C43 looks a little tightly packed. It is also quite a thirsty beast on the run so if you can compromise with these drawback and pay a higher price for this power packed performer, then the Silver Arrow shouldn't be a problem. But at a more economic pricing, the BMW M240i looks quite considerable for what it offers.

2018 BMW M240i Convertible Final Verdict

Embedded with the M Sport badge the M240i is the Power-packed Performer of the 2 Series. Moreover its cabriolet is looks like a perfect ride for a sporty drive on a sunny day on a country road or alongside a beach. Well the best part is that it's quite economic and very decently thirsty. Also it's fully loaded up with various features. So for such a price it is quite a considerable option over its competitors for the package it comes with.
