2020 BMW X4 M40i Complete In-depth Review & Buying Guide

The 2020 BMW X4 M is similar to the X3 compact crossover in terms of mechanicals but the chopped roof reduces headroom and legroom for rear passengers. Also, the turbocharged six-cylinder produces more than 500 horses that is decent for an SUV of this class. The present X4 model comes with two turbocharged engines, one standard turbocharged four-cylinder and powerful optional inline -six, propelling 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. The X4 M, on the other hand dials more power output at 473 hp and 442 lb-ft. If its less to fulfill your thirst for power then you may add available Competition package that gets you 503 hp.

The engine is the main thing that distinguishes M part with the general X4 model. The X4 M gets the same 3.0-liter in-line six cylinder that is used in the X3 . The engine is mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and an M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The engine produces 480 horsepower and a peak torque of 600 Nm (442 lb-ft). The acceleration time goes 4.2 seconds for zero to 60 mph.

An array of interior improvements would make the X4 M handling better than before. The standard xDrive all-wheel-drive system keeps the power at the rear wheels, transmitting it further to the fronts whenever extra grip is needed. Just like other high-performance BMWs, the rear Active M Differential transmits power for more traction and performance. There are some major improvements in suspension components — including unique anti-roll bars — while a strut brace keeps the body rigid. Also, the adaptive dampers give the driver the option to switch between different driving modes such as comfort or sport. .

With the Competition package's M Sport exhaust system, we get an active exhaust system with quad tailpipes that bring some magnificent sound from the twin-turbo inline-six. The front fascia is slightly larger for better airflow, while the rear diffuser provides aggressive look from the rear end.

Talking about the interior, the X4 M Competition models get excellent M Sport seats while the normal models get it as option. There’s leather upholstery in colors like black and gray, along with red trim. The red programmable buttons are present on the steering wheel that lets the driver to set for best steering response in any situation.

BMW has put several features for driver’s safety. Some of the features include forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking at low speeds.

The 2020 BMW X4 M is likely to undergo production by April, followed by deliveries in early summer. We are expecting the pricing to commence at $61,445, till the exact prices are out on a later stage.
