In the full-size SUV class, the BMW X7 has adequately established itself as a segment favorite. While it has been based on a similar platform since its introduction, the 2023 model year brings about some necessary changes. Apart from revised front-end styling, there's a new dashboard inside the cabin with a large new touchscreen and the latest iDrive infotainment system. The previously known BMW X7 M50i is now renamed as the X7 M60i which now features the mild-hybrid setup along with the twin-turbo V8 for better efficiency

2023 BMW X7 M60i for Sale

While the 2023 X7 M60i is yet to hit the roads, it is available for sale at an MSRP of $104,095 with both lease and finance buying options available. The BMW X7 M60i finance offer begins at $1,870.6/month at 3.99% APR and a 60-month duration. The 2023 X7 M60i lease deals start at a monthly premium of $1,641.8 for a tenure of 36 months and an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. Both offers require a $2,500 down payment.

2023 BMW X7 Buying Advice

In spite of the added features and mid-cycle refresh, the 2023 X7 M60i sees a price hike of just around $3,300. While the added features and meaner looking front fascia might make the X7 feel worth the additional money, one can buy a used BMW X7 M50i at a discounted price. Opting for the older 2020 BMW X7 M50i could save you big money in terms of the depreciation of the car.

Since 2019, by coalescing luxury with comfort and resonating with top-notch craftsmanship, the BMW X7 M60i has given its competitors a run for their money. Not only does the 2023 X7 M60i cater to the demands of family-oriented buyers wanting to travel in paramount luxury, but the availability of a V8 engine with the top-tier trim allowed the SUV to feed into the demands of the enthusiasts. It competes against the likes of the Audi SQ7, the Land Rover Range Rover P530 LWB SE, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS 580

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

In the upcoming iteration, the 2023 BMW X7 M60i undergoes an overhaul in terms of its frontward design. Additionally, the previously available M50i trim has been discontinued in favor of a new M60i option, which sports a similar engine as before but adds a hybrid system to the mix for improved efficiency. After the price bump, the X7 M60i carries a price tag of $104,095 including the $1,095 destination fee. The spacious and luxurious cabin with plenty of technology continues to ensure comfort at its best.

While it is too early to assess the cost of ownership for a car that is yet to hit the dealerships, expect the BMW X7 M60i to cost roughly in the same ballpark as the older M50i at around $111,8879. J.D. Power is also yet to test the X7 M60i for its reliability ratings, the previous model scored an impressive 81/100 in this regard. Add to that the 3-year complimentary maintenance plan and the exhaustive warranty program, and owning this performance-oriented BMW SUV should not be a huge headache for the buyers.

Buying Advice

The 2023 X7 M60i is a standalone trim, so there is not much to recommend in this regard. The SUV is amply equipped and with a revised powertrain it delivers ample performance for its price and buyers would not regret their decision. However, we do suggest looking into the package list to further enhance the individual experience.

Features
8.5/10

The 2023 BMW X7 M60i is an all-new standalone trim available in the SUV’s lineup. While on the feature front it is similar to the X7 M50i SUV available until last year, the latest iteration benefits from the inclusion of a 48-volt hybrid system with its V8 setup and an updated dashboard. It is priced at $103,000 before the destination charge and with the price revisions, the six-figure SUV finds itself in a rather competitive segment. In the current MY, the SUV comes equipped with four-zone climate control, power-folding rear seats, and Anthracite Alcantara headlining.

Additionally, BMW has also unveiled a total of 4 optional packages with the newest trim. While most of these are similar to the options available previously, for us, the standout packages include the Driver Assistance Professional Package and the Executive Package, both of which are priced close to $2,000. BMW now also offers an option for 23-inch wheels along with the second-row captain's chairs and the 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system.

Release Date

The 2023 BMW X7 release date has not been put to stone and so, it is also not known when the M60i variants will be available. However, considering past timelines, we expect the entire lineup of the fullsize SUV to be released by the fall of 2022.

Engine and Performance
8.5/10

The new 2023 BMW X7 M60i is a novel proposition with a fresh engine under its hood. In the 2023 iteration, the SUV sports a familiar 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine, which makes use of a 48-volt hybrid system in addition. While the previously available setup has been tweaked, there are no changes listed to the outputs. As the M50i alternative, the X7 M60i is good for 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It makes use of an 8-speed automatic transmission, which together combined with the engine transfers power to all the wheels of the vehicle.

Since the 2023 BMW X7 M60i receives cosmetic changes and benefits from the addition of a hybrid system, the SUV’s ride quality remains top-notch as before. Each feature introduced by the brand aims at improving ride quality. Starting with the handling, the X7 M60i feels sharp and precise despite its sizable dimensions. It is made possible with a 2-axle air suspension that easily adjusts the height to combat all driving conditions. The 22-inch wheels, in addition, provide a feeling of calm and allow the SUV to be sure-footed in every situation.

Moreover, the standard M differential and Integral Active Steering system ensure that even at high speeds, the responsive does not feel substandard and the driving experience does not go for a toss. For the current iteration, BMW estimates the SUV to complete a 0-60 MPH sprint in 4.5 seconds. The quarter-mile is done in 12.6 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155 MPH. The 5,950 lbs of standard towing capacity is considerably lower than its rivals in the segment.

Compared to the German proposition, none of the counterparts manage to equal BMW’s statistics. While the Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 is the only other SUV that uses a hybrid setup, it tends to be a second slower than the X7 M60i. The Range Rover has an identical engine output as that of the BMW but it is marginally slower off the mark owing to its heft. It is also considerably more expensive while the Audi SQ7, which is the quickest in a straight line, is the most affordable one here.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

Like its braking performance, no information apart from a 21.9-gallon fuel tank is available about the 2023 BMW X7 M60i. However, since the vehicle now sports a mild-hybrid system as standard, we expect the fuel efficiency to improve as compared to the previous iteration. That said, the EPA ratings are not yet out. For reference, the recently available 2022 X7 M50i managed a combined efficiency of 21 MPG and a range of 500 miles.

In comparison, the Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 is the most frugal option available in its class. It manages to average 21 MPG in combined driving conditions and despite a midsized fuel tank, it delivers a range of 500 miles. Both the Audi SQ7 and the Land Rover, do not employ any mild-hybrid technology and hence have a much lower fuel economy ratings. So, unless the efficiency increases considerably, the 2023 X7 M60i will have a tough time gaining ascendancy in this regard.

Interior
8.5/10

The 2023 BMW X7 M60i may be performance-oriented, but it continues to adhere to the requirements of the large luxury SUV class it falls in. In every sense, the interior of the German proposition feels flamboyant and highly rewarding. The setup with the large infotainment screen and dash cluster looks rather modern and provides easy access to every button and toggle. The material quality is also top-notch. The Merino leather upholstery available as standard has a pristine feel to it and the wooden inlays on the central console and doors deliver an ostentatious effect. As for comfort, the contoured front seats and capacious middle row seats ensure that leisure remains unparallel.

Though the third-row seats feel constricted and claustrophobic, they can easily accommodate small children. The visibility from each row is astounding and even the rear seats provide a commanding view of the road at the front. While its basic cargo space is pretty average, the German proposition’s trunk volume of 90.4 cubic feet allows it to remain highly competitive. The 2023 BMW X7 M60i’s infotainment system is easy-to-use and highly collaborative. The SUV makes use of a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, which can also be controlled by the centrally-mounted knob. Both display units have inch-perfect graphics and provide accessibility to most functions and vehicular information.

Even when compared to the class, the space that the BMW X7 M60i has to offer is similar to most competitors. Even the cargo capacity differs diminutively from some rivals. The Audi SQ7 offers marginally better trunk space than the X7 but its third-row seats are barely usable. The Range Rover LWB on the other hand offers much more comfortable seating for all three rows but has very limited luggage space.

Exterior
9.0/10

The biggest change for the BMW X7 lineup in the current year is related to its exterior design. To bring the SUV in line with the brand’s overall strategy, the X7 has now been designed to sport sleeker headlights, a larger front grille, and a slightly more chiseled hood. Almost all the updates to the vehicle are concentrated on the front end and though there are some revisions to taillamps, they are not instantly recognizable. For us, the overall design feels idiosyncratic and slightly polarizing. It looks highly animated and seems to have lost the finesse of the outgoing model

Nonetheless, the overall stance and propositions remain brawny, with the 22-inch alloy wheels giving the SUV a muscular tone to the setup. In terms of dimensions as well, the 2023 MY benefits from an increase in the overall length. Compared to the measurements of the outgoing iteration, the X7 M60i is 5 inches longer than the M50i option. All other dimensions remain similar, with the vehicle managing a total height and width of 71.1 and 78.7 inches, respectively. There is no change to the wheelbase as well and at 122.2 inches, the German SUV is smaller than all of its adversaries.

Compared to the all-new BMW X7 M60i, all SUVs bear cleaner designs that have better appeal to them. While each SUV looks bulky, the simpler design elements allow them to look rather opulent. That said, there is no competition to the sheer size of the Range Rover LWB. It is the longest, widest, and tallest SUV in this comparison and therefore is also the heaviest one here. The Mercedes is just marginally larger than the BMW X7 but weighs significantly more.

Some of the salient exterior features of the 2023 BMW X7 M60i:

  • 22-inch bi-color alloy wheels
  • Roof rails
  • Rear Spoiler
  • Illuminated kidney grille
  • Aerodynamic Kit
  • Shadowline Exterior trim
Safety
9.0/10

The 2023 BMW X7 M60i falls into an elite category of SUVs. So, it is almost cent-percent sure that the vehicle will not be tested by the safety organizations. Nonetheless, the capabilities of the vehicle cannot be discounted. With its impressive structure based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform and a potent list of specifications, the M60i variant of the full-size SUV will deliver adequately. As standard, the German vehicle comes equipped with features like an anti-theft alarm system, Active Protection System, lane-departure warning system, and a rollover sensor. Apart from these, the other standout features available include:

  • Blind-spot Monitoring System
  • Park Distance Control
  • BMW Assist eCall Services
  • Adaptive brake lights
  • Frontal Collision Warning System
  • Automated parking system
Competition

2023 BMW X7 M60i vs 2023 Audi SQ7

The affordable Audi SQ7 stands out in the premium full-size SUV segment with an attractively low price tag, quick acceleration performance, striking design, and premium interiors. It is spacious and offers plenty of lugagge space. The BMW on the other hand offers more luxury creature comforts and has better dynamics to offer. Also, the complimentary maintenance package and the impressive reliability ratings, bring the X7 M60i back into the game. That said, the Audi SQ7 still offers more value for money for buyers if the third row of seats are not of much importance to you.

2023 BMW X7 M60i vs 2023 Land Rover Range Rover P530 LWB SE

The freshly updated Range Rover shows the pinnacle of craftsmanship from Land Rover. It has a powerful powertrain with plenty of off-roading capabilities and an impressive towing capacity. The interiors are a class apart while there is plenty of legroom for passengers in all three rows. The long wheelbase model aids in offering this space. While frugality is not among the best, the technology and safety aids are one of the best. If luxury and off-road capabilities hold higher importance to you over sporty ride and handling, the Land Rover Range Rover SE feels with the additional sum of investment.

2023 BMW X7 M60i vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 and 2023 BMW X7 M60i are closely matched. Both SUVs resonate with opulence and comfort and aptly represent the ideologies of their respective brands. They come with V8 engines under their hoods that are coupled with mild-hybrid systems that add distinction to the setup. Currently, since the fuel efficiency of the X7 M60i is not yet known, we can compare the two vehicles on all other aspects. When pitted against one another, BMW takes lead in terms of acceleration and is almost a second quicker. It bestows an equal amount of passenger space but manages to take the lead in cargo capacity as well. At a similar price, we feel that the BMW X7 M60i is the more logical choice.

Final Verdict

The 2023 BMW X7 M60i might be all-new, but it is largely a name change for the previously available M50i trim. Though it benefits from slight tweaks to its engine setup that are focused on efficiency, the performance in all other regards remains largely similar. Keeping its outlandish design out of question, the German SUV is amply quick, ergonomically built, and is highly sound and safe. Its reliability is similar to other trims in the SUVs lineup and by promising better efficiency with its mild-hybrid system, the vehicle is hard to veto. Consequently, even if buyers can find an enticing deal on a used 2022 BMW X7 M50i for sale, we would suggest waiting for the new model.
