Detailed Review

The US automotive market is flooded with a large number of mid-range convertibles. Buick Cascada is one the popular convertibles available in the market currently. The eminent two-door convertible is throwing a tough competition in the convertible segment since 2013. The front wheel drive convertible is equipped with a decent engine, sturdy build, and plenty of cargo capacity on the board.

The main highlights of the 2017 Buick Cascada include 20" diamond graphic twin-spoke wheels with bi-color finish, triple-layer fabric top, and dark premium leather upholstery. A feature-rich Buick Infotainment system along with a new "Touring" trim is welcome in the 2017 convertible coupe.

2017 Buick Cascada Engine

6.3/10
Buick knows that sometimes it’s more fun to drop your top—hence the Cascada. A 1.6-liter turbo four makes 200 hp; front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic are standard." - Car and Driver

Buick Cascada 2017 is boosted with an average 1.6L 4-cylinder engine which produces acceptable power and torque counts in the segment. The 1.6L Turbo engine generates power at 200 hp which is decent considering the segment. This engine makes 207 pound-feet of torque which is extremely good as Cascada has the smallest engine in the competition.

Acceleration:

2017 Buick Cascada's 1.6L engine features below average acceleration due to low power its count and high curb weight of the convertible. The two-door convertible boosts from 0 to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds which is below average in the mid-range convertible category. Competitors like Audi A3 Cabriolet Premium, BMW 230, and Volkswagen Beetle convertible (Dune) features better acceleration counts of 6.9, 5.6, and 7.4 seconds respectively in 0-60 mph test.

2017 Buick Cascada convertible takes 16.5 seconds in measuring a quarter mile of distance which isn't exciting at all. Competitors like Audi A3 Cabriolet, BMW 230i Convertible, and Volkswagen Beetle convertible have better acceleration counts to offer than the 2017 Cascada. The 1.6L engine in BUICK Cascada has higher C02 emission of 7.6 tons/15k miles while engines in rivals including BMW 230i Convertible, Volkswagen Beetle convertible, and Audi A3 Cabriolet stands a bit eco-friendly with CO2 emissions of 6.6, 6.6, and 6.3 tons/15K miles respectively. At last, Buick Cascada stands unimpressive in the segment, when compared with the competitors.

Ride and Handling

The convertible coupe is boosted with a decent engine, though the acceleration is just acceptable. The car has enough to offer for the daily rides but lacks the thrust that BMW 230i offers. The 6-speed Automatic transmission was smooth and fast. The adjustable front seats are spacious enough and offer decent level of comfort throughout the journey. The suspension works fine on the rugged roads, though the car isn't immune from the exteriors and engine noises. The handling is confident, and steering wheel features a decent grip. The premium interiors and infotainment system add more stars to the riding experience. Overall, Buick Cascada offers above average riding and handling experience for the convertible coupe segment.

Braking

2017 Buick Cascada features large braking pads of 12.6 and 11.5 inches respectively. The braking system in the convertible coupe is cannot be termed as powerful as the car slides 124 feet while decelerating from 60 mph to still. The Anti-lock Disc braking system performs average in the 2017 Buick Cascada due to its massive curb weight of 3979 lbs. Interestingly, all the rivals are lighter than the Cascada.

At last, Buick Cascada underperforms in the segment.

2017 Buick Cascada Fuel Economy

6.9/10

The mid-range convertibles are known for their fuel economies. Though Buick Cascada doesn't have best-in-class fuel efficiency, it still offers a decent fuel economy considering its engine and curb weight. The car offers a fuel economy of 20 and 27 mpg on city roads and highways respectively, which is acceptable in the segment.

Popular BMW 230i convertible impressive us in the segment, as it offers impressive fuel-efficiency instead of a powerful 2.0L engine. At last, Buick Cascada has a decent fuel economy but the rivals are offering something better.

2017 Buick Cascada Interior

7.0/10

"Inside, the Cascada's abundance of hard plastic materials gives it a somewhat downmarket feel. The plethora of dashboard switches and controls can also be confusing, and the infotainment system is dated in both its appearance and operation." - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

2017 Buick Cascada has a passenger capacity of four, which is standard for a mid-range convertible. The interiors in the 2017 Buick Cascada are premium and well crafted; the dark leather upholstery with a decent quality of plastics enhance the interiors of the two-door convertible. The perforated and heated front seats are spacious and adjustable in the convertible. The interiors feature dual-zone climate control, foldable rear seats, and heated tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The interiors may be built well but there a ton of buttons on the center console which looks very cluttered and brings down the overall appeal of the interior in a generation when every manufacturer is aiming for minimalistic buttons.

Infotainment

For all the infotainment needs, there is an advanced Buick Infotainment System with 7"-diagonal color touch display with decent visibility and color reproduction. However, the system feels really last generation and the graphics are not so great either. The system is not so intuitive and the German rivals are better off in this regard. The main highlights include OnStar automatic assistance and an advanced navigation system. The sound system produces impressive sound output for the convertible. The connectivity features include Bluetooth, Auxiliary input jack, and USB. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are absent in the 2017 Buick Cascada.

Cargo capacity

2017 Buick Cascada definitely impressed us in this segment. The convertible coupe has enough boot capacity to handle all your cargo needs. The boot in the convertible has a cargo capacity of 9.8 ft. cube. The foldable rear seats are convenient and easy to fold. The cargo capacity increases by more than 2 times by folding the rear seats.

2017 Buick Cascada Exterior

8.0/10

"Save for minor cosmetic detailing on the grille, lighting elements, and rolling stock, the Buick Cascada’s styling is virtually identical to its Opel-badged alter ego. But that’s hardly a bad thing. Open or closed, the new Cascada’s cleanly styled convertible bodywork and well-rendered top treatment ensure great curb appeal from virtually any angle." - Kelley Blue Book

Dimensions and Weight

2017 Buick Cascada features a sporty convertible look along with premium 20" diamond graphic twin-spoke wheels. The exteriors are boosted with sporty styling and the triple top fabric roof add more stars to the exteriors. The daytime running LED headlights enhance the aggressive cum sporty look of the two-door convertible.
