Updated on: October 20, 2021

The 2022 Buick Enclave has been fully redesigned and goes for sale this fall. It has a starting price of $42,800 for the base Essence trim while the top-end Avenir trim costs up to $55,100. The powertrain remains the same i.e. a 3.6L V6 that churns out 310 hp and 266 lb-ft. of torque. It does not offer an eye-opening acceleration but it can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

2022 Buick Enclave three-quarter view

The Enclave's interior is handsome and spacious. Now that the push-button shifter is offered instead of a gear shifter, it looks more modern. On the infotainment front, it now offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Another big and vital change in the Enclave is the availability of more standard driver-assist features. The main rivals include the Cadillac XT6, the Infiniti QX60, and the Acura MDX

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The Buick Enclave is Buick's big three-row SUV that boasts comfortable seating for seven, a relaxed ride and plenty of standard features- Edmunds

The Buick Enclave is among the best SUVs that give tough competition to its rivals. Now that it is fully redesigned, it has a modern design language that is easy to recognize, and the interior looks more futuristic. The SUV also gets more standard safety tech, which is a great update. The powertrain remains unchanged but frankly, the power it makes seems enough to keep this SUV moving.

If you plan on buying the 2022 Enclave, it is good to know that its running costs are slightly higher. Considering all costs such as fuel, maintenance, repair, insurance, etc., the annual ownership cost comes out to be just over $11,000. Speaking of reliability, the Enclave has a good reliability rating of 80 out of 100, according to J.D. Power. This suggests it has a good resale value in the used car market.

2022 Buick Enclave Buying Advice

In our opinion, the Avenir trim doesn't justify its price tag. For us, the Essence trim is the way to go. It provides a good balance of features for an attractive price. We suggest you buy the optional Technology package that adds some more driver assistance technology to the list. If your daily work also requires towing heavy loads, add the Trailering package to the shopping cart.

2022 Buick Enclave Features

The Enclave goes long on safety gear and infotainment- The Car Connection

Buick dropped the Preferred trim for the 2022 Enclave. Now, only the Essence, Premium, and Avenir trims are offered. Prices range between $42,800 and $57,100 and can be ordered in both FWD and AWD configurations. A destination charge of $1,195 is applicable at the time of purchase. The Enclave offers plenty of comforts and technology even on the base Essence trim.

Climbing up the trim ladder, more comfort and convenience features are added. These features are available on the Essence trim through optional packages. The Sound and Sites package adds a 10-speaker Bose sound system, navigation system, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 120V power outlet for $1,555. The top-end Avenir comes loaded with pretty much everything.

2022 Buick Enclave Engine and Performance

The 3.6-liter V6 generates 310 horsepower, so there’s always sufficient muscle for passing or merging- Kelly Blue Book

The Buick Enclave comes with a 3.6L V6 engine which produces 310 hp and 266 lb-ft. of torque. This engine is mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. FWD drivetrain is standard but AWD configuration is also available. The Enclave has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds when equipped with the optional Trailering package. The V6 is quite refined and the gearbox offers smooth and quick shifts.

2022 Buick Enclave engine

The Enclave delivers a pleasant driving experience. The suspension is set up to be very soft which means that you get a controlled and comfortable ride over bumps and undulations on the road. When you toss it around the corners, body movements are well controlled. You also get strong feedback from the steering and the turning circle is tighter too. However, due to its bulky size, maneuvering it on narrow roads can be a headache.

2022 Buick Enclave front driving view

The V6 provides lively acceleration with plenty of reserve power. This heavy SUV can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 6.6 seconds while the quarter-mile time is recorded at 15 seconds. These are not particularly impressive numbers but considering the size of the vehicle, it's commendable. However, the brakes don't have strong stopping power, probably due to its bulky size. In the brake test, the Enclave took 134 feet to decelerate from 60 MPH.

The V6 in the Acura MDX feels more athletic and hence, sprints faster than its rivals. Unlike the Enclave, the Cadillac XT5's peak torque is available at 5,000 RPM. This affects its fuel efficiency in the long run. The Infiniti QX60's engine feels underpowered in the long run and hence, it takes the longest time to complete the drag test.

2022 Buick Enclave Fuel Economy

It's unfair to expect economy-car efficiency from a hulking three-row such as the Enclave- CarAndDriver

The fuel economy for the Buick Enclave is average for the class. However, when compared to other segment-rivals, it lags gas mileage. The EPA rates it at 18 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on a highway, and 21 MPG combined whereas AWD models return 1 MPG less. These are pretty competitive numbers in the class.

2022 Buick Enclave front driving view

A 19-gallon fuel tank is fitted inside the FWD Enclave whereas AWD versions get a larger 22-gallon tank. At its full capacity, the Enclave can travel up to 399 miles but the large fuel tank in the AWD variant allows it to deliver a respectable 440 miles of combined range. Also, the Enclave requires regular gas, unlike its rivals.

In terms of efficiency, the Acura MDX shines in this competition but it is the opposite story in the case of the Cadillac XT5. However, the latter's large fuel tank saves its position on the table in terms of driving range. The Infiniti QX60's fuel estimates are almost similar to the Enclave. Other non-luxury SUVs in the segment offer better fuel economy.

2022 Buick Enclave Interior

If you only walk away with two points about the 2022 Buick Enclave, know that it’s enormous and it’s very quiet- Autotrader

The cabin of the Buick Enclave feels luxurious with more soft-touch materials. The center console has been revamped. The gear shifter has been replaced with a push-button shifter. The top-end Avenir trim adds more luxury elements such as wood inserts on the dash and quilted leather upholstery. The front seats are comfortable and offer good under-thigh support for long journeys. Heated front seats with power adjustability are standard but higher trims also add ventilated and massaged front seats.

2022 Buick Enclave dashboard

The second row offers less head and legroom than the first row but they can accommodate three passengers comfortably. Heated outboard second-row seats are standard, except for the base Essence trim. Access to the third row is easy with the second-row captain chairs. They can slide and recline to adjust the legroom for the third-row occupants. The Enclave offers the most legroom in the third row in its class. A power moonroof is standard only on the Avenir trim.

2022 Buick Enclave infotainment system

An 8-inch touchscreen is fitted at the center of the dash that now features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The screen has got bright vibrant graphics and is really good to look at. The straightforward interface is complemented by its intuitive nature. Plenty of buttons surround the screen for easy access to the infotainment system. A 10-speaker Bose premium audio system is standard on the top two trims but the Essence trim settles with a 6-speaker stereo.

2022 Buick Enclave Exterior

The update for the 2022 Buick Enclave keeps its look fresh- Kelly Blue Book

The 2022 Buick Enclave has been fully redesigned and is ready to dominate the SUV market with its aggressive looks. Looking from the front, the Enclave looks more premium and appealing. The grille has been redesigned; now it's slightly bigger in size and has polished chrome strips around it. The headlamps, DRLs, and fog lamps are also redesigned. Now they are slimmer and get an all-LED setup.

2022 Buick Enclave three-quarter view

Coming to the sides, it remains more or less the same as before. In the rear, the new LED tail lamps with animation and sequential lighting give it a more elegant look.  Under the bold fender arches, you will notice new redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels which add to the overall look of the Enclave. It has a ground clearance of 7.5 inches, which is well-suited for muddy terrains. Its wide wheelbase translates for a stable ride.

The Cadillac XT6 has the shortest wheelbase here and its third-row lacks enough legroom for adults. The Infiniti QX60 sits lower than the Enclave at 6.5 inches. This is good for quick entry and exit from the vehicle. The low curb weight of the Acura MX aids in its acceleration. Some noteworthy exterior features are:

  • LED auto high-beam headlights
  • LED DRLs
  • LED taillights
  • Fog lamps
  • Power-folding, heated exterior mirrors
  • Black grille with chrome surround
  • Chrome bodyside moldings

2022 Buick Enclave Safety

A host of standard driver-assistance technology is offered on even the base model- CarAndDriver

The 2022 Buick Enclave is not yet evaluated for its safety. Therefore, we are taking the previous year's ratings into account. NHTSA has rated it five out of five stars while IIHS gave 'Good' ratings in all crash tests. The front crash prevention was given a 'Superior' rating. It missed the Top Safety Pick award as its headlights were rated 'Marginal'.

2022 Buick Enclave Competition

2022 Buick Enclave vs 2022 Cadillac XT6

Although both the SUVs belong to the same parent company and are built on the same platform, some differences can be spotted. The Cadillac XT6's base engine is underpowered and therefore, less athletic. The cabin of the XT6 lacks adequate space in the third row as it sports a shorter wheelbase. When it comes to safety features, the XT5 is way better as it offers a long list of standard driver aids.

2022 Cadillac XT6

2022 Buick Enclave vs 2022 Acura MDX

The all-new Acura MDX has a slightly higher initial price than the Enclave as it comes with more standard features. Its V6 is much capable and offers quick acceleration while its fuel economy is also better. The MDX also offers an array of standard safety systems. However, its third-row lacks adult-friendly legroom and its cargo room is also less. Moreover, its infotainment interface isn't user-friendly.

2022 Acura MDX

2022 Buick Enclave vs 2022 Infiniti QX60

Even the Infiniti QX60 has been fully redesigned for 2022 like the MDX. Its V6 is reasonably capable but it does not offer athletic handling. Its interior feels much more premium and luxurious than the Enclave but the latter offers more space. A host of driver-assist features are standard in the QX60 but the Enclave offers better cargo volume. Overall, the QX60 seems a better buy as it emits luxury vibes right from its exterior.

2022 Infiniti QX60

2022 Buick Enclave Final Verdict

The redesigned 2022 Buick Enclave is already a very capable vehicle. On top of being a very handsome-looking vehicle, it offers pristine performance and comfortable interiors. The cargo space is enough to carry your luggage for a long journey. It comes with a decent collection of safety features and has performed well in crash tests as well. Buick has truly ventured hard to put forth an all-rounder.
