Overview

It's been more than a decade since Buick decided to sell an Estate in the United States, but it looks like they've done a fantastic job with the 2018 Regal TourX. You heard it right! The power-packed Regal TourX can carry your bicycle and even go off-roading with ease.

With a price tag of $29,995 for the base model and $35,995 for the top end, Regal TourX is one of the affordable wagons compared to its rivals. At the higher end the car is filled with all the tech and stuff. The motor is a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.

There are a few cons like the jerky transmission, but way too many things that make you want to buy the car. At this price range, it beats the rivals from manufacturers like Volvo, Audi, and Subaru.

The Buick has an upper hand compared to its rivals when it comes to power output. The Volvo V60 dynamic and Audi A4 All road premium costs are high with almost the same output power, but with 290 lb-ft of torque, Buick Regal TourX beats them all with a high margin.

Acceleration

Thanks to the high power output, the Buick Regal TourX posts one of the best acceleration time of the cars compared here scooting from 0 to 60 mph in mere 6.3 seconds.

Both the Volvo V60 and the Subaru Outback are 1 sec and 0.6 sec slower than the Regal TourX and also couldn't catch up for the quarter mile race. The only wagon that beats the Regal is the Audi A4 All-road with almost $10,000 higher price tag than the Essence trim.

Handling and Steering

The intelligent AWD system of the Buick Regal TourX and the active dual clutch system gives a good control over the car. The all-wheel-drive system performs well even on snow. The steering sends out a good response and also comes with a heated wheel for the cold season (only in the essence trim).

Braking

The 2018 Buick Regal Tour X brakes perform average for the segment. The halt from 60 MPH takes about 125ft which is not bad for the weight but still stays a step back when compared to the Audi and the Subaru, both weigh 100 lbs. more.

Competition

Buick Regal Tour X vs. Volvo V60 Dynamic

Buick Regal dominates the Volvo in many domains. The Buick's engine is more powerful than the Volvo's 240hp and 258 lb-ft which gives better acceleration. Regal has one of the best-in-segment cargo space which is 30 cubic feet more than the Volvo. The Volvo takes the upper hand when it comes to mpg.

Volvo is known for safety but Buick tried very hard and has made some pretty good technology addition to the safety features in the car. Volvo comes with a video monitor and infotainment system but looks pale when it comes to Regal's 7” Infotainment system.

Buick Regal Tour X vs. Audi A4 All road Premium

Buick and Audi perform almost same with Audi having the upper hand in the performance swooping away with 252hp and a faster 0-60 time. Buick Regal Tour X stretches 8 inches longer than the Audi and has 20 cubic feet capacity more cargo space. However, the Audi costs over $10,000 more than the Buick.

Buick Regal Tour X vs. Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited

Buick Regal TourX outranks Subaru in almost all segments. 3.6L 6-Cylinder Subaru feels underpowered compared to 2L 4-Cylinder Buick. The economy of Subaru is 2MPH lesser than the Regal. The cabin space and the cargo space is almost the same in both the wagons. Subaru has a higher ground clearance than the Regal which makes it easier to go off road but lacks stability. The interior in the Subaru and Regal Tour X are less attractive and dull compared to that of the Volvo and the Audi. The infotainment system in the Subaru is a 6.5 inch for the base and the rest get the 8inch display. Unlike Regal Subaru doesn't come with a built-in 4G LTE connectivity and mobile Wi-Fi facility.

Final Verdict

The 2018 Buick Regal Tour X is a perfect all-rounder with best in class cabin space and top notch performance. The new design steals the show with the attractive headlights and grille. The crossover design feels captivating with those lines.

Inside, it's spacious, comfortable, and loaded with features. However, if you associate Buick with luxury, the average build quality of Regal may disappoint you. If you want luxury and can pay $10,000 more, we recommend the Audi A4 all-road.
