We Recommend

Although the base variant of the new Buick Verano contains all the necessary and some optional features, usually seen in higher end cars, We would recommend going for the Sport Touring variant, as it offers some necessities like Climate Control and Keyless entry amongst others which prove to be quite useful and enhance the overall experience.

2017 Buick Verano Engine

6.4/10

The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder motor is not rocket quick. It's capable of a 0-60 mph jaunt of a modest 8.6 seconds, but to its credit the Verano feels more eager thanks to its quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission and a refinement level that's nearly tops for the segment. - Car connection

Engine and Transmission

Under its hood, the 2017 Buick Verano sedan comes equipped with a 2.4L inline 4-cyl motor which churns out 180 hp along with 171 lb-ft of torque from its belly. Unlike its German rivals, the Verano feels underwhelming but still boasts enough power to make the daily drives a fun. The engine is adequately powered, feels punchy but lacks the refinement which its German rivals offer.

Expectedly, the Verano is the slowest in the pack as it takes 8.1 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Same is the case when tested on a quarter-mile dragstrip.

Handling and Steering

The Buick Verano is a tidy and comfortable car when it comes to handling. It gives you a secured feeling with nice and supple steering with an equally good suspension.

Although the highway friendly Turbocharged engine has been replaced, the current one manages to hold its own too, giving appreciable results.

Braking

The heaviest car in this segment, the Buick Verano does well in the braking department, with a decent result, considering the quality amongst its rivals.

2017 Buick Verano Fuel Economy

Being the one of the heaviest amongst the rivals, the Buick Verano is definitely Fuel thirsty, and it shows here with a city mpg of 21 and that of 31 on the highway.

This is something where GM needs to look at with the Buick Verano at the bottom of the pile, that too by a big margin, while the others are around 29 mpg.

2017 Buick Verano Interior

7.6/10

The Verano stands apart from less-pricey compact four-doors thanks to its refined, comfortable, and silent interior. Buick coins the interior as "Quiet Tuning" and that accurately describes this little four-door's personality. - Edmunds

The interiors in the Buick Verano are well crafted and something which might bring a much more accomplished brand to shame. Although compact from outside, the cabin space is pretty big for decent sized adults. The buttons and toggles on the console too have a nice feel to it.

Seating and Comfort

The 2017 Buick Verano Sedan is a two-row cruiser which accommodates 5 people. It does offer electrical seat adjuster amongst various other things. However, one thing which is lacking is the seat memory setting, which would have been a real plus for this car.

With a class leading 14.3 ft of space, the Buick Verano is definitely top notch in this regard as all the others are way behind in this regard. The Audi and the Acura are at 12.3 ft, while the much more famous BMW 320i is at 13 ft.

2017 Buick Verano Exterior

8.4/10

It's a design that is uniformy subdued and tasteful aside from the fake portholes on its hood that look more Pep Boys than design house. - Car and driver

The compact looking Buick Verano is definitely high on the style quotient with its good looks and tidy designing making it look a real special piece of designing.

Dimension and Weight

The heaviest Buick Verano also has the best dimensions, Something which may come as a surprise considering its Compact designing. But that is the case.

2017 Buick Verano Competition

Audi A3 Premium

Priced significantly cheaper than the Audi A3, the Buick Verano has given the Audi A3 a serious run for its money. It has a bigger engine, with appreciable torque and power. While in the case of acceleration it does fall behind, it braking brings it back in the reckoning.

And although the fuel economy of the Audi is way more, the Trunk of the Buick Verano ably competes with it. So, it depends on the buyer actually, whether he wants the famous and expensive Audi A3 or the underdog, the Buick Verano.

Acura ILX

Both the underdogs, the Buick Verano and the Acura ILX are pretty much comparable in every regard. Both have an identical engine. And while the Acura scores on acceleration and braking, the comfort and trunk of the Buick Verano gives it a serious match. However, the space on offer in the Buick Verano does take the game away from the Acura, making the Verano a clear and deserved winner.

BMW 320i Sedan

As in the case of the Audi A3, the BMW and the Verano are from two different levels, although they compete in the same level. The values are pretty much comparable with comfort and convenience of the BMW definitely topping that of the Verano.

So, if price is not an issue, the BMW 320i is the car to go for in this segment.

2017 Buick Verano Final Verdict

The new entrant in the luxury car segment, the Buick Verano is the car for those who want a Luxury car but does not have the money for it. This is the game changer in the market, as Buick offers this car at a significantly lower price than the much more famous rivals.

In terms of qualities too, this car is right up there with the best with a best in class engine with premium comfort and handling amongst other things. The trunk space is too class defining.

However, this car definitely gets exposed when we get to see the less than adequate knee room along with a really poor fuel economy and an equally outdated infotainment system. All these defintely shows the gap between the new entrants and the old dogs.

So, if money is an issue and a Luxury car is a wish, the 2017 Buick Verano Sedan is the car for you, while the much more accomplished Audi A3 and the BMW 320i are definitely for the other ones.
