The CT4-V Blackwing follows in the footsteps of the outgoing ATS-V sedan – which left us in 2018. The new Caddy shares a lot with that car. However, Cadillac has decided to give the new Blackwing more power from the same engine with an upgraded transmission and suspension to make it even more performance-worthy along with improved and larger brakes.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The upcoming Envision GX will share its platform with some well-established General Motors models, such as the Chevrolet Malibu, the Buick Regal, and the Cadillac XT4. This gives us a pretty solid idea about the updated SUV’s size and underpinnings. The 2022 Buick Envision GX is set to feature a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 engine, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 2022 model year Buick Envision GX faces tight competition from rivals such as the Ford Explorer Limited, the Acura MDX, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited X.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Features

The 2022 Buick Envision GX will most likely be offered as a separate trim, allowing customers to upgrade their Envision into a well-packaged three-row SUV. The Envision GX will feature roomy third-row seats, along with added ease of getting to the back. A few updated creature comforts are expected for the revised GX moniker, while most of the technology and cabin aids remain unchanged from the 2021 model year Buick Envision.

The 2022 Buick Envision GX is expected to be as well-equipped as its two-row counterpart, featuring similar levels of comfort, technology and luxury in a more spacious package. With features such as ventalited and massaging seats, the Envision GX seeks to offer compelling luxury and class at a super competitive price point.

 We Recommend

The 2022 Buick Envision GX will most likely be offered as a separate trim, so there’s not much to go on in that aspect. Additionally, Buick hasn’t much information about the packages to be offered with the updated Envision GX, so we recommend waiting till more details surface.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Engine and Performance

The 2022 Buick Envision GX retains its old 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 engine, mated to a 9-Speed Automatic gearbox. The Envision GX’s engine makes a hearty 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is good enough to keep the three-row SUV going on highways comfortably. City driving is expected to be refined and comfortable, with minimal NHV from the engine and seamless gearshifts.

The 2022 Buick Envision GX is offered with FWD as standard, while AWD is available with a simple upgrade. The transmission works well, keeping you in the right gear at the right time. The Envision’s gearbox is far from sporty, but shifts are quick and efficient, which is great for comfortable city driving. The 2022 Buick Envision GX is expected to go from 0 to 60 MPH in 7.3 seconds

Comparing the competition, the 2021 Ford Explorer Limited has the most power output to offer, along with the most torque. The Buick envision falls on the underpowered side, but offers torque nearly at par with the Acura MDX and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the Buick and the Acura are offered with FWD as standard, the Ford and the Jeep come with RWD. All SUVs in the lot can be updated to feature AWD. The Ford Explorer stands the quickest in the lot, launching from 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Fuel Economy

The Buick Envision has been a very fuel-efficient SUV, outperforming most of its competition in the gas mileage department. The 2022 model year Envision GX is expected to follow suit, offering impressive fuel economy standards, and setting the benchmark for the segment. The 2022 Buick Envision GX is expected to return 24 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on highways, and a combined MPG figure for 26.

Much like the standard Envision, the 2022 Envision GX is set to feature a 15.9-gallon fuel tank. This, coupled with the impeccable fuel economy, is expected to return excellent driving range. The Envision GX can possibly manage to deliver a driving range of up to 493 miles on the highways before having to stop at the gas station.

Among the competition, the 2022 Buick Envision GX clearly offers the best fuel economy among the competition. The Ford Explorer does come close in terms of gas mileage, but not quite. The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers the least fuel efficiency among the competition, and stands at 20 MPG of combined economy. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee offers the highest driving range thanks to the fat 24.6-gallon fuel tank.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Interior

While most of the interior remains unchanged, the 2022 Buick Envision GX will feature a third row of seats at the back. The Envision GX is expected to feature a roomy first row, much like the standard Envision, followed by a slightly tight second row of seats. There’s no information available about the GX’s third row space, but we can estimate that it should be fairly close to what is being offered with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior will retain its class and charm.

The Envision GX’s cabin is set to feature plenty of leather on the dash and on seating surfaces, along with piano black trim pieces around the center console. The GX is also expected to offer heated, cooled and massaging front seats, finished in premium leather. There’s also a heated leather steering wheel on offer, which also houses several driver controls for ease of access. Additionally, the 2022 model year Envision GX will most likely retain the hybrid gauge cluster seen on the two-row Buick Envision.

Comparing the competition, the Ford Explorer offers the most headroom in the front row, while the Acura MDX has the most shoulder room to offer, albeit by a small margin over the Ford. The Explorer also offers the most legroom at the front, clearly establishing its lead at the first row. At the second row, the Explorer yet again shines in terms of space, offering the greatest headroom, shoulder space, as well as legroom. The rear gets rather tight in this segment, but the Ford manages to offer the best value among the competition, clearly establishing itself superior in terms of cabin space. Some key interior features offered with the 2022 Buick Envision GX include:

  • Leather Dashboard.
  • Heated & Ventilated Seats.
  • Massaging Driver’s Seat.
  • Two Cup Holders.
  • Laminated Windshield.
  • Active Noise Cancellation.
  • Dual-Winged Center Console.

How intuitive is the infotainment system of the 2022 Buick Envision GX?

The 2022 Buick Envision GX is expected to feature an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, but Buick might give you the option of upgrading to a larger 12.0-inch unit. The Envision GX’s infotainment is expected to feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Amazon Alexa Support. If you have a home automation setup, Buick lets you control things at home while being inside the cabin of your Envision GX. The infotainment system also lets you save several preferences, which allows ease of access while driving.

Buick also offers a wireless charging pad for supported devices, along with 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. Sound is channeled via a premium sound system, while Bluetooth audio streaming is offered standard. The hybrid gauge cluster features a small screen in the middle, which can be accessed to view several driving parameters, including real-time fuel economy and trip details. Some key infotainment features offered with the 2022 Buick Envision GX include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Amazon Alexa Support.
  • Easy-Access Preferences.
  • Wireless Smartphone Charging.
  • 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot.

  • Head-Up Display.
  • Buick Connected Services.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Exterior

While most of the design of the 2022 Buick Envision GX remains the same as the present model year Buick Envision, the three-row SUV sees some changes in terms of rear-end design and dimensions. The updated Evision GX will be longer than the standard Envision, and will feature a longer 111.5-inch wheelbase. The GX will mostly retain its front fascia, along with the design of the hood and front fenders.

From what we know, the Envision GX will feature a larger grille, and might possibly sport a GX badge up front. There could possibly be a front light bar, which might connect the headlights, along with modified bumpers to accommodate this updated aesthetic. The side profile will obviously undergo a change, and we expect the sloping roofline to straighten to fit the third row of seats. There should also be an increase in the rear overhang, which would possibly give the Envision GX a slightly more beefy look.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Sedan Final Verdict

The Buick Envision has already established itself as a brilliant SUV, featuring excellent comfort features and great fuel economy at a great price point. The 2022 Buick Envision GX is expected to follow suit, offering the same levels of class and refinement as a three-row package. The Envision GX is set to feature impressive technological aids, along with a potentially roomy third-row. Not only does this allow the GX to compete with a slightly bigger SUV such as the Ford Explorer and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, it allows customers to opt for a bigger Envision.

While the powertrain lacks power from a performance standpoint, the noiseless cabin and compliant suspension offset the numb engine with staggering comfort and refinement. If you’re looking for a classy SUV with loads of comfort features and excellent practicality, the 2022 Buick Envision GX should offer you an excellent alternative to many other three-row SUVs in the market.
