2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Sedan Engine and Performance

The greatest Cadillac's once sprouted grand fins and taillights inspired by the Space Age. Today, the great 2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport may not look like a rocket, but it sure as heck moves like one - Edmunds

Engine and Transmission

Being a step above the CTS sedan, the CTS V-Sport sedan sees a step up in power and performance over the regular CTS sedan. The 3.6L Twin Turbocharged motor develops a massive 420hp and 430 lbs.-ft. of torque. What sweetens the driving experience is the 8 speed automatic transmission that comes with a performance algorithm shifting tech that is programmed to match the road conditions on which the Caddy is moving through. Speaking of rivals, the BMW is the most powerful of the lot. The Genesis and the Cadillac are tied at a dead heat for the second spot and the Infiniti comes in a close third in this respect.

Acceleration

With Cadillac supplying the CTS V-Sport with a powerful engine, it has done wonders for the performance of the sedan. The CTS V-Sport does the 60MPH dash in just 4.5 seconds and finishes the quarter-mile run in just 12.9 seconds. This translates to superb on-road performance on the motorway and in the city while overtaking or when the need for adrenaline comes in.

The Bimmer stays put to its reputation of being a sport sedan as its the fastest car in our comparison today. The Infiniti matches the performance of the Cadillac and comes in 2nd. The Genesis is slowest of the lot, despite its powerful motor.

Ride and Handling

The Cadillac CTS V-Sport offers excellent driving dynamics balanced with the luxurious and refined cabin. Its design is honed at the infamous Nurburgring track. The suspension and chassis complement the supercharged engine and provides the racing capability.

During aggressive cornering, the electronic Limited-Slip Differential automatically sends power to the rear wheels for optimum traction and faster exit speed. The third generation Magnetic ride control reads the road thousand time per second and independently control all the four dampers for maximum stability. The ZF sourced electric power steering is precise with immediate response.

Braking

The stopping power of the CTS V-Sport is managed by race-inspired Brembo brakes with vented rotors. The pedal feel is firm and inspires unmatched confidence while cornering enthusiastically. The Brembo brake system provides durability, consistency and the capability for track-day performance. The 157ft distance to stop from 70MPH ranks among the best in business and is only matched by some of the other high-performance cars.

The best braking performance among all the cars compared here unsurprisingly comes from the BMW M550i. The surprise package of the lot is the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, with its 109ft stopping distance. The heft of the Genesis sets it back in the braking performance and is the worst among all the cars compared here.

2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Sedan Fuel Economy

The Cadillac offers one of the most powerful motors among its rivals and does a trade off in the form of the MPG figures. The Cadillac offers the least mileage among its rivals and isn't much helped by its 19 gallon fuel tank.

The Infiniti Q50 strikes the best balance between performance and gas efficiency as it returns the best MPG figures among all the cars compared here. Second in the line comes the BMW that returns a somewhat similar figure like the Infiniti. The Genesis has the same MPG figures as the Caddy but edges out the latter on the overall range with its massive 20.3 gallon fuel tank.

2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Sedan Interior

7.5/10

The 2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport delivers just enough comfort and builds quality to overlook a tight back seat and small trunk - Carconnection.com

Seating and Comfort

The inside of the Cadillac CTS V-Sport is handcrafted with performance-oriented execution. Its cabin is large and comfortable yet imparts a sporty feeling for pure exhilaration. The power-adjustable standard seats are exceptionally comfortable with an ample amount of bolstering. They are wide, deep but not too soft which makes them perfect for long hours in the cabin.

The rear seats are also comfortable with snug toe room but wide knee room. The sloping roofline and thick pillars make limited headroom for taller individuals. We do hope that the suspension would have been softer in the normal settings as it would have sweetened the drive but other than that, there aren't many qualms about the same.

In terms of interior space, most of the rivals are similar and there is not much of a difference. However, the Cadillac does have some cramped rear seats. The Genesis is the most spacious of the lot and offers the best space at the back when compared to its other adversaries.

The CTS V-Sport comes with Cadillac's Cue infotainment screen that controls all the tech and features. The eight-inch LCD multi-touch sensitive screen, integrated into the top of the central instrument panel which is intuitive to use. Volume and climate are adjusted through the touch sensitive button instead of traditional knobs.

However, unlike the CTS, the CTS V-Sport comes in with some cosmetic and performance upgrades over the same and makes the CTS V-Sport look different than the CTS. 2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Sedan Competition

Cadillac CTS V-Sport vs BMW M550i xDrive

The BMW M550i has been the favorite and the segment benchmark for a long time in terms of handling and driving dynamics. What also made the Bimmer so famous is its impeccable build quality, superb features and an intuitive infotainment system. But take into consideration the massive price gap between the Caddy and the Bimmer and you will find the Caddy, a bit more value friendly. The CTS V-Sport offers most of what the Bimmer offers but at a lower price and a slight compromise on the build. If you didn't have the extra cash to shell out for the bimmer, then the Cadillac would suit your bill well.

Cadillac CTS V-Sport vs. Genesis G80

The Genesis G80, builds on its long list of features on offer, good cargo space and a luxurious Interiors. It's spacious on the inside and is as powerful as the CTS V-Sport. It's cheaper than the Caddy and is the one to go for, if you want a comfy ride. The Cadillac CTS V-Sport on the other hand offers a more thrilling ride and is the one to go for, if you want some fun while doing your daily office commutes.

Cadillac CTS V-Sport vs. Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400

The Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 is hands down, one of the best-built cars in this segment. It has superb build, both on the outside and on the inside and comes loaded with plenty of features as well. The Infiniti however, can't match the dynamics of the Cadillac and feels relatively under powered when compared to the same. The Cadillac comes loaded with a lot of sophisticated tech underneath it and is the Sedan to go for, if you want daily thrills without much fuel bills.

2019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Sedan Final Verdict

The Cadillac CTS V-Sport is the perfect compromise between the Ultra Maniacal CTS-V and the subdued CTS. The CTS V-Sport strikes a good balance between the 2 as it offers the sportiness from the CTS-V and cocoons the passengers with the features of the CTS. Cadillac is charging a premium for the CTS V-Sport but for the extra price, you do get a thorough sports sedan with features similar to a luxury car and make your daily commute from office to home a lot of fun, without drilling a hole into your account.
