Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The Cadillac Escalade ESV is the ultimate SUV, with the new 6.6 liters, 400 horsepower Duramax diesel engine, paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and available new Haldex all-wheel-drive system. Due to its predecessor having undergone a complete design overhaul for 2021, the 2022 version is unlikely to see any major changes. Among other big guns, this machine will take on the Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL Diesel, and Land Rover Range Rover Diesel.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Features

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel is the definition of well-equipped, bringing you the latest in cutting-edge luxury technology in a well-crafted package. Fit to handle whatever comes its way, the Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV has everything you need. And everything you don't see in other vehicles, it has that too. We do not have any information on the pricing structure for 2022 MY, but we expect the MSRP to rise by up to $2000.

Like its predecessor, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade will also be offered in five unique trim options: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, and Sport Platinum. All of these trims come equipped with plenty of standard features like proximity keyless entry, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, a hands-free power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable, and heated front seats, power-folding and heated second-row seats, driver's seat memory settings, a power-folding third row, a power tilt-and-telescoping heated steering wheel and a household-style power outlet. The list does not stop here, as there are a lot of other features up the trim ladder.

We recommend

Almost all of the luxury SUV's available infotainment technology is included in the base Luxury Escalade, plus a substantial number of driver assistance features. However, it lacks luxurious features such as leather seats. Therefore, we recommend you to buy the Sport trim, which comes with all the driver aids and comfort features, including leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. And yeah, you’d get a sporty style exterior.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel Release date

Cadillac hasn't announced the exact release date for the 2022 Escalade ESV Diesel SUV yet, but we expect that it will be on sale by the end of 2021.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Engine and Performance

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel is expected to be powered by the same engine as the outgoing model. The Cadillac Escalade is unique among its siblings in this regard. It is equipped with a Diesel engine. The engine is a 3.0-liter Duramax DOHC turbocharged six-cylinder engine that produces 277 horses and 460 pounds of torque. Power can be directed to the rear wheels or all four wheels according to your preference via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

On the performance front, you won’t see astonishing or enthralling figures here as no one uses this gigantic machine to seek thrills rather than envying all the luxury it offers. This Escalade ESV Diesel would make a 0-60 sprint in 7 seconds which is pretty decent. The Duramax engine provides high performance while the transmission seamlessly transfers power without lag at all times. The Cadillac Escalade is capable of towing between 7,400 and 8,200 pounds; this is a good towing capacity.

In addition to the Chevrolet Suburban, the GMC Yukon XL of 2021 also produced similar numbers because they share the same 3.0 liter Duramax diesel engine. While only the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover receives a V6 engine, its 254 horsepower power output makes it a high-performing vehicle. Despite the fact that all three of the large SUVs have the same engine, only the Yukon can cover the 0-60 mph sprint in fewer than seven seconds.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Fuel Economy

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel, though equipped with a beefy engine, drives more efficiently than some of its competitors. As for its mpg rating, it delivers 15 mpg in the city, 20 on the highway, and 17 on the combined highway/city cycle. The 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV has a combined range of 481 miles thanks to its 28.3-gallon fuel tank.

It is true that the Chevrolet Suburban Diesel and GMC Yukon XL both use the same engine, but their fuel efficiency varies. Because of their weight and dimensions, there is a significant correlation between the two. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Cadillac is one step ahead of the Chevy and GMC. Thanks to its massive 31-gallon fuel tank, the GMC Yukon has the longest range at 496 miles.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Interior

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV will be a very luxurious SUV. It comes with a top-of-the-line infotainment system and the highest quality leather seats. The interior is upholstered in top grain leather with heated and ventilated seats. The dashboard has a full-color driver's display with navigation, satellite radio, telephone, 911 assist, vehicle diagnostics, vehicle information center, passenger display for rear passengers with operating system controls, internet access for rear passengers, climate control for rear passengers with individual climate controls for rear and additional front passengers, and a fold-out sleeper sofa located behind the second row of seats.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel is comfortable, quiet, powerful, and safe. There will be three rows of seating in the 2022 Escalade ESV that comes standard with the captain's chairs in the second row. A middle bench seat can be added to any model at no additional cost to increase seating capacity to eight. The front seats are extremely comfortable and feature 12-way power adjustments and standard heating. The front seats can be steamed up or power-adjustable and massage with 16 ways to adjust. Additionally, there is plenty of space for adults to relax in the second row.

The Escalade ESV comes equipped with a 7-passenger interior for optimum luxury and comfort. In contrast to the Range Rover, which seats just 5, its siblings both have a maximum capacity of 8 or 9 passengers. As you can see, the Cadillac is built for space and luxury. It would have been detrimental to both the Escalade's space and luxury had it been an 8 or 9 seater. Some of the noteworthy interior features of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel include:

  • Fully automatic panoramic sunroof
  • Heated and ventilated front and second-row seats
  • 16-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with massage function
  • Power soft closing doors
  • Three-zone climate control
  • Ambient lighting
  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Perforated leather trims and accents
  • Keyless entry and push-button start
  • Leather-wrapped power steering wheel

How intuitive is the 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV’s Infotainment System?

Because of its ultra-modern features and immersive experience, Cadillac Escalade's infotainment system was an instant hit when it debuted in early 2021. In the 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel, the infotainment system will likely be the same. An impressive three-screen digital display measures approximately 38 inches in the interior of the Escalade. They combine to give the appearance of an almost completely computerized dashboard.

In the center console is a knob that can be used in conjunction with the 16.9-inch infotainment screen. Despite the ease of use, the system impresses with its quick response times. Compared to competitors that require a phone jack to connect, Cadillac offers standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. As an instrument cluster, there is a 14.2-inch display. This application also offers augmented reality navigation.

It overlays directions and commands on the video stream from the front-view camera and displays them behind the steering wheel. The 7.2-inch touch screen, which contains driver information, is located to the left of the instrument display. Other features like USB ports, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi-hotspot and wireless device charging are all standard as well. The 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel’s infotainment includes the following features:

  • 16.9-inch touchscreen
  • 7.2-inch digital control panel
  • 14.2-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 19-speaker AKG Studio stereo
  • Wireless device charging
  • Bluetooth
  • 2 USB ports

  • Wi-Fi hotspot

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Exterior

There is no mistaking the imposing presence of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel. From head to toe, it has been refined and re-engineered with a sporty and modern exterior that will turn heads. For 2022 MY, it will largely remain the same in terms of styling and design. The vehicle has a big presence for those looking for attention, as the brand-new equipment and modern design trait help retain this SUV well known and spread it performs too many well-known faces.

The extra eleven inches of new wheelbase length provides eleven extra inches of luxury roominess. The exterior of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV is highlighted by dual chrome-tipped exhaust outlets, which are set into enlarged wing-shaped cutouts in the rear fascia, and its trapezoidal wheel arches. The grille design has sharp edges that are emphasized with chrome inserts, just below the Cadillac crest on the grille.

Its external proportions, along with the impressive amount of power, easily humiliate its rivals such as the GMC Yukon XL. The Cadillac has an advantage over all of its rivals on this front. Sure, they all look massive and luxurious when they are viewed separately. Nevertheless, they can't compete with the elegance and presence of the Escalade. It's no wonder that the Cadillac Escalade appears so imposing and very premium when on the streets. Some of the notable exterior features include:

  • Swept-black headlights
  • 20-inch 7-spoke chrome alloy wheels
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Adaptive Air Suspension
  • An acoustic windshield and Rear Privacy glass
  • Active Aero Grille Shutters
  • Eldorado inspired tail lights
  • LED headlights and taillights
  • Power and heated side mirrors

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Safety

Due to the fact that the 2022 model has not been released yet, we will discuss its safety as it pertains to the outgoing model. Overall, the NHTSA gave the 2021 Escalade a safety rating of four stars out of five with four stars in top crash tests, five stars in side collision tests, and three stars in rollover tests. Likewise, we expect the same standards to be met for the 2022 lineup as well. In addition to these, Cadillac's Escalades will be packed with an array of top-of-the-line safety technology and advanced driver assistance features to keep you safe on the road. Among the notable features are:

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Competition

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV vs 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Mechanically and engine-wise, these SUVs are very similar. In terms of size, the Chevrolet Suburban is equal to the Cadillac Escalade ESV, showing just how spacious the interior is. A Cadillac Escalade is an undisputed luxury SUV that is more focused on comfort than any other vehicle. As a result, the Escalade is much more expensive than the Suburban, which is very similar. Thus, if you prefer 9 seats without bothering with the Chevrolet badge, choose the Suburban; however, the Escalade is the safer and more luxurious choice.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV vs the 2021 GMC Yukon XL Diesel

The GMC Yukon XL 2021 is another very similar SUV to the Cadillac Escalade. Both have the same Duramax engine and mechanicals, yet Escalade is much more expensive and luxurious than Yukon. Obviously, the Yukon is a better vehicle than the Suburban, but not as good as an Escalade. The Escalade, on the other hand, is more affordable and has better predicted reliability scores.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel SUV vs the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Diesel

The Land Rover Range Rover SUVs have always been exemplary performers for their unsurpassed level of comfort and luxury. With its wide catalogue of models and engines, Land Rover caters to a wider audience than other luxury SUVs. In comparison with the Cadillac Escalade, the Land Rover Range Rover is the ultimate luxury SUV. However, it can only seat five people and does not have the same level of reliability and service network that the Cadillac Escalade enjoys in the United States.

2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV diesel SUV Final Verdict

The new Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel is one of those SUV's that makes you want to be occupied with the prestigious sedan. Its beautiful and elegant body comes in a boat-like design and its amazing design helps you to make it your first choice. It is the perfect combination of luxury and performance, making it a must-have for most consumers. There are multiple options for trims, engine types, and drivetrains, allowing most buyers to find exactly what they need and want. The interior and exterior styling is remarkable and will turn heads wherever it goes.
