The Cadillac XT5 has been carried over from the 2021 model year without any significant changes to it. It still gets the 2L turbo and the 3.6 L V-6 and offers exactly everything it was offering till now. This XT5 is part of the generation of XT5 that was introduced way back in 2017. The car fared well in the market and received mostly positive reviews regarding its spacious interior and a practical array of features.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is priced at $45,190 and is now getting outdated in front of its rivals. It offers a very roomy and well laid out interior, with loads of cargo and a stunning exterior. However, the rivals offer a much better package, with advanced technology and premium interiors. The Cadillac XT5 goes up against the Buick Envision, the Volvo XC60, and the Infiniti QX50.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 will be available in three trim levels, which include the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and the Sport trim. The Luxury trim is priced at $45,190, the Premium Luxury at $49,990, and the Sport trim is priced at 57,090. Standard features on the car across all trims include LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, remote engine start with keyless entry and ignition, four USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 Luxury Premium and Sport trims are offered with a few packages seen on the 2021 Cadillac XT5. The packages and their offerings have been listed below:

Apart from the packages, you also have stand-alone options such as the night vision system, a navigation system with the 14-speaker Bose Audio system, and the tri-zone climate control with ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

We Recommend

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 Luxury-Premium is the trim to go for, in our books. It offers the same performance as the basic trim, but you have the optional V6 as well if you want something more. Also, the car is better in terms of equipment and safety features and has a lot of optional packages available as well. It is decently priced, and hence offers a well-balanced package.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Engine and Performance

The Cadillac XT5 SUV comes with two engine options, a 2.0L turbocharged I-4, and a 3.6L V6. Both these engines are mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Premium and the Luxury Premium come with Four-wheel drive and get AWD as optional. The Sport trim comes with the AWD only. The 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine churns out 237 hp @ 5000 rpm and 258 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm. The 3.6L V-6 engine makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V-6 is standard on the Sport trim, whereas the Premium Luxury gets it as an optional item. 

The car clocks 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds and takes 16 seconds for the quarter-mile at 88 mph. It has a top speed of 130 mph. The V6 is much quicker, with a 0-60 mph time of 6.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 15.1 seconds. In terms of handling, the Cadillac XT5 does offer impressive performance. The car handles like a charm, with a planted and consistent drive quality. In the corners, the car turns on the dime, with stable and confident turns. There is body roll, but it's minimal and well-managed. 

The suspension is well set up, and the adaptive suspension does not make much of a difference to the overall drive quality. This with the slick and precise gearbox and the decent engine makes driving the XT5 a lot of fun. The steering on the XT5 is accurate and light but lacks the feedback required. This is a letdown when you consider how well the other parameters have been designed, and we wish Cadillac improves this in the next iteration. Comparatively, the Sport trim with the V6 is more indulging and responsive, thanks to the sport-tuned suspension and the sport-tuned AWD.

All the four cars come very close to each other in the kind of performance they deliver and have close power and torque figures as well. The Infiniti QX50 makes the most power and torque of the four, while still being around $6,000 cheaper than the XT5. The XT5 is the only one that comes with a Four-wheel drive and the Volvo comes with AWD as standard. The QX50 is also the only one that gets a CVT transmission. In terms of 0-60 mph, it's the QX50 with the quickest time at 6.3 seconds, followed by the XC60 at 6.4, the Envision at 6.5 seconds, and the XT5 being the slowest at 7.6 seconds. 

The same story goes for the quarter-mile times as well. The QX50 has the least time at 14.8 seconds, followed by the XC60 at 14.9 seconds. The Envision takes 15.1 seconds and the XT5 takes the slowest 16 seconds. The XT5 and the Envision have the same top speed of 130 mph. The Infiniti has a top speed of 141 mph, whereas the Volvo has the highest top speed of 180 mph.

The fuel economy of the 2022 Cadillac XT5 stands at 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined mileage of 24 mpg. The V6 returns 18 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined. This fuel economy, offered by the I-4 engine is decent by the car standards, and on par with most of the rivals. The car has a large fuel capacity of 19 gallons, which gives it a good range as well.

When looking at the rivals, the Buick and the Infiniti offer the best-combined mileage of 26 mpg, whereas the XT5 and the Volvo are slightly behind at 24 mpg combined. The Envision offers the best city mileage at 24 mpg, and the best highway mileage as well, of 31 mpg. The XT5 and the XC60 have the same city and highway mileage numbers. In terms of range, the Cadillac XT5 offers the best-combined range of 456 miles, followed by the XC60 at 451 miles. The Buick and the Infiniti are close to each other, with a combined range of 413 miles and 416 miles respectively.

The XT5 has the most fuel tank capacity at 19 gallons, followed by the Volvo at 18.8 gallons and the Infiniti at 16 gallons. The Buick offers the least, at 15.9 gallons. As a result, in spite of the best mileage, the cars have the least range on offer. The best city range is offered by the Cadillac XT5 at 399 miles, whereas the lowest city range is offered by the Infiniti QX50 at 368 miles.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Interior

The 2022 Cadillac XT5’s interiors cover everything from comfort to convenience. In terms of features, the base trims are also very well equipped and things just get better with the higher trim levels. The materials, the quality of work, the fit and finish all are excellent on the inside. The XT5 succeeds at delivering a sense of premium in these interiors. But when one looks at the interior as a single entity, it fails to show its focus. The layout is decent, and the use of soft plastics has made things better. The knobs and buttons deliver a sense of richness. The interior comes with leather seats finished in jet black color and aluminum trim. The Luxury premium adds a high-gloss wood trim and the Sport trim gets a bronze carbon-fiber trim. The seats come in various color options to choose from as well. 

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is a five-seater car. The XT5 has big and wide doors, which makes getting in and getting out of the car very easy. The XT5 has excellent seat comfort and smooth ride quality. However, noise does creep in the cabin, making the experience slightly unpleasant. The front seats offer a lot of space and come with tons of adjustability and with excellent headroom and legroom. The seats offer great support and are well-bolstered as well. The rear is no different story and offers great space on the inside and the comfort is excellent as well. The interior comes with a lot of extra optional equipment that makes a world of a difference to the feeling inside. The optional ventilated front and heated rear seats do make the ride feel comfortable over long distances and the Titanium Package is a must-have package.

In terms of interior space, all the cars are very similar to each other. The QX50 offers the most headroom in the front, and the XC60 offers the frontest legroom. The XT5 offers the most legroom in the rear, and the most headroom in the rear as well. The Volvo’s rear headroom is comparatively less, and taller passengers might feel a little cramped. In the front, it's the Cadillac that offers the most shoulder room at 58.3 inches. In the rear, the QX50 offers the most shoulder room. 

The standard cargo capacity is the most in the QX50, at 31.4 cu-ft. The XT5 comes very close, at 30 cu-ft, just 1.4 cu-ft behind the QX50. The XC60 offers 29.7 cu-ft storage, whereas the Buick has the least storage at 25.2 cu-ft. In terms of maximum cargo capacity, the QX50 leads with its 65.1 cu-ft capacity, followed by the XC60 at 63.3 cu-ft and the XT5 at 63 cu-ft. The Envision has the least capacity at 52.7 cu-ft. How intuitive is the car’s infotainment unit?

The infotainment system on the 2022 Cadillac XT5 is small. It’s an 8-inch touchscreen, whereas rivals usually offer 10-inch + screens. It’s 2022, after all. The infotainment unit might be small but packs in a punch. It is easy to use, and the tech is pretty advanced. Some of the controls are knob-based and are nice to use. The instrument cluster uses a combination of analog/digital displays. 

Some features of the infotainment unit include Bluetooth, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, stereo, USB connection, an auxiliary audio input. The voice control is not very polished, and users are advised to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for seamless commands. The Enhanced Visibility and Technology Package adds a few extra features and is a must. You also have a separate option of a navigation system with the 14-Speaker Bose Audio system. 2022 Cadillac XT5 Exterior

The 2022 Cadillac XT5’s exterior gets no changes for the year 2022. According to us, the car already looks stunning and is one of the cars in this segment with a great exterior. The XT5 follows the Cadillac design philosophy, clear with the signature swept-back headlamps and tail lights. They do remind you more of the Cadillac sedans. The front bumper is huge, which gives the XT5 a muscular stance. The LED headlamps look mean and enhance the look even more. The grille is shaped like the outline of the Cadillac logo and has a nice broken line symmetry running along. In the center, sits the polygon-type Cadillac logo. 

The side shows the thick lines and the tall wheel arches, but are shadowed by the unusual hunchback design of the roof. The rear is simple and straight, much like a mirror image of the front. The 18-inch alloy wheels are standard on the base trim, and the Sport trim gets 20-inch alloy wheels. These 20-inches are optional on the other two trims and come in gloss black or chrome. The cost ranges from $2,495 to $2,895. Apart from this, optional equipment includes roof rack cross rails, assist steps and compact spare tire, etc.

The Volvo XC60 is the heaviest car in this comparison with a curb weight of 4105 lbs. The Envision is the lightest, weighing in at 3692 lbs. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is the longest car of the four, at 189.6 inches. It's unusually long for a car of this segment. In terms of width, it's the Volvo XC60 with the most width at 78.7inches. The XT5 has the most height at 66.1 inches, with the WX50 just behind at 66 inches. The most ground clearance is seen on the Infiniti- this helps with the car’s stance as well. The Envision has the tightest wheelbase at 109.4 inches. The XT5 and the XC60 come very close in terms of wheelbase, at 112.5 inches and 112.8 inches respectively. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 gets the same safety features as seen on the 2021 Cadillac XT5. The 2021 Cadillac XT5 was crash-tested by the NHTSA and the IIHS; the NHTSA rated the XT5 5-stars. The 2021 Cadillac XT5 got the highest rating of “Good” from the IIHS. The XT5 is based on the C1XX platform, part of the Epsilon platform. 2022 Cadillac XT5 vs 2022 Buick Envision

The 2022 Buick Envision, like other Buick vehicles, offers an interior premium to most cars in this segment. For 2022, the Envision has got some interior changes and a ton of cosmetic changes. However, most of the things have remained the same. These both cars have the same engine size, but the Buick makes less power and more torque. This, combined with the less weight of the Envision has helped it achieve better performance numbers compared to the XT5.

Both the cars go head to head in terms of safety, with 5-star ratings and a plethora of safety equipment. The Cadillac is a little less reliable than the Envision. The Envision also offers a better fuel economy but suffers in terms of range due to the small tank. All this comes at a cost that is around $8,000 less than the Cadillac XT5 and hence makes a very promising choice.

2022 Cadillac XT5 vs 2021 Infiniti QX50

There have been rumors about the 2022 Infiniti QX50, but there has been no solid data yet. For now, we’ll consider the 2021 model. The 2021 Infiniti QX50 has better power and better torque, and hence a better performance than the Cadillac XT5. The XT5 is far ahead in terms of fuel capacity even though the QX50 has better mileage, thanks to the larger tank capacity. The interiors are similar, but the QX50 offers the class-leading cargo capacity. The XT5 is not far behind, but the smallest gap makes the difference sometimes.

The point where things start to differ a lot is the price point and the equipment list. The Infiniti QX50 offers most of what the XT5 offers at a lower price. In terms of safety, both the cars have great safety ratings and there has been no compromise on that. However, the Infiniti QX50 falls behind the Cadillac XT5 in matters of reliability. 

2022 Cadillac XT5 vs 2022 Volvo XC60

The 2022 Volvo XC60 sees a lot of changes for the model year 2022. The infotainment system gets refreshed and easier to use software, with some changes to the interior and the exterior and a few tweaks to the driver-assistance systems. This does put it in a better spot overall than the Caddy, in terms of better equipment and refreshment is always welcome between model years. 

The Volvo is the only car that comes close to Caddy’s pricing. It comes with AWD as standard and outputs slightly more power than the XT5. This, despite the car’s heavyweight, helps it achieve better performance than the XT5. Otherwise, both these cars are very similar to each other in terms of economy, interior space, safety ratings, and exterior. The XT5 however, is more reliable than the XC60.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Final Verdict

The new Cadillac XT5 sits between the smaller Cadillac XT4 and the larger Cadillac XT6, and does the exact thing it's specifically designed to do: offer something more than the XT4, and keep it below the better equipped XT6. But when you look at it for long enough, you realize the car does not exactly stand out in any particular parameter. 

It is not well-balanced as well, and more like a Jack of all trades. It fails to meet the kind of luxury and practicality that the rivals do offer. The warranty on the car is similar to most others, and the pricing is right there, on spot. The XT5 has some value to it, with the great exterior and the better interior materials. This, however, does not change the fact that it's still behind its rivals, and we hope the next iteration does improve this car’s ranking in this segment.
