The Chevrolet Blazer was reintroduced in 2019 after a 14-year hiatus in the American market as a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV). The RS is just a souped-up variant of the standard Blazer and comes equipped with a very potent V6 under the hood, paired with a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic unit. It has dipped its feet in rough seas in terms of the competition, with almost all manufacturers offering credible offerings.

The Chevrolet Blazer comes in AWD and FWD variants which costs from $40,000 to $44,000 and considering the price point, the apt rivals would be Lexus RX 350, the Cadillac XT5 Sport, and the Ford Edge ST - all the souped-up variants of their respective offerings that pump out massive figures and provide the most thrilling experience in the segment.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Features

8.0/10

The RS trim of the Chevrolet Blazer is a features-loaded product in the Blazer line-up which offered some enticing features like a leatherette interior in black color with red accents, heated and ventilated seats, an adaptive cruise control system, Bose’s premium sound system, and a strong powertrain. It is a sportier version in the Blazer line-up which comes in both front-wheel drives costing $41,695 and the all-wheel-drive variant which comes at $44,595. There are not as such options to opt from except for the AWD and FWD variants. The alloy wheels, however, can be upgraded to 20-inch wheels at a premium, of course.

The RS is the higher-level trim, equipped with some class-leading features like an Adaptive cruise control system, Heated and ventilated front seats, lane keep assist and brake assist, automated emergency braking, 3.6L V6 engine, leatherette interior, and ambient lighting.

Which trim option should you buy?

We recommend you to buy its AWD variant. Sure, it does cost $3,000 extra but squeezes out the maximum performance from the drivetrain, without sluggishness in acceleration. The fuel economy does take a hit by an MPG or two but the impressive handling compensated for any deficit in the economy nonetheless.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Engine and Performance

8.0/10

With the RS trim, you will get a huge 3.6L V6 motor as standard irrespective of the drivetrain options, which churns out the power of 308 horses and a 270 lb-ft. of torque. It channels all the power through a 9-speed automatic gearbox which is somewhat laggy, but in sports mode, the engine becomes more aggressive and commands its upshifts and downshifts at even higher RPM than normal, which surely gives an engaging driving experience. In normal mode, the 0-60mph time is recorded as 6.1 seconds and it can cover a quarter-mile in just 14.7 seconds - which is bound to be reduced by switching up to the more responsive map.

The Blazer, RX 350, and the XT5 have almost the same engine and similar power and torque figures, while the Edge with the 2.7-liter motor benefits from the turbocharger and produces class-leading power and torque figures. The 0-60 mph sprint and quarter-mile timing of the Blazer is better than that of RX350 and the XT5, while the Edge again wins the battle by touching 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds.

How well does the Chevy Blazer RS handle?

The Blazer RS would be the best crossover from the Chevrolet in terms of driving experience. The car along with the punchy engine maintains the driving dynamics and ride quality very well. The steering has a fluidic and crisp response and is easy to maneuver across the city and the suspensions although tuned for a sporty drive, but absorbs the bumps very well.

It is offered with both FWD and AWD variants, where the AWD is obviously better in terms of handling and has better agility around the corners, and maintains the body roll quite well. However, the 20-inch alloys fail to provide a quieter ride which you get better in lower trim levels with 18-inch alloys.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Braking performance

The braking performance of the 2020 Blazer RS would have been a little better considering its curb weight, which is lesser than the rivals. The decelerating distance recorded from 60-0 mph is 165 ft. which is way more than that of the rivals. Another reason might be its disc brake size which is lesser than others. However, it gives a confident braking experience with the ABS and EBD systems. Moreover, the RS also gets the advantage of an electronic parking brake.

Even with the least curb weight, the Blazer RS has a poor braking distance, while that of the Edge with the heaviest structure having the least stopping distance. The rotor size of the Blazer is the smallest while that of the Edge is the largest, which plays a significant role in stopping distance.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Fuel Economy

5.0/10

The Blazer RS even with the giant V6 motor manages its fuel economy very well. The crossover gives an economy of 19 MPG in the city and 26 on the highways. These MPG figures belong to its FWD configuration, while the AWD variant has a fuel economy lower by 1 or 2 MPG. The Blazer is equipped with a 19.4-gallon fuel tank which is enough to give a driving range of over 390 miles in the city and over 540 miles on the highways. The RS trim especially features start/stop technology which further helps in saving fuel.

The MPG figures of all of them are quite competitive, however, the Lexus RX350 has best in class fuel economy. The Cadillac XT5 sport, even with the smallest tank, offers a better driving range than the RX350 and the Edge ST. The range offered by the Blazer is the longest in class.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Interior

As you enter inside the car, it promises a perfect sportier stance which seems inspired by the Camaro. The dashboard is packed with angled and edgy design elements and some red accents around the AC vents look absolutely sporty and premium. It is surrounded by high-quality black leather with some red stitching on the edges which feels upscale. And same goes for the door panels, which are also wrapped in leather with some cushiony material on the armrest. When you sit inside, you feel surrounded by the high-quality leathers and the ambient lighting adds some more premium and cozy feel especially at night.

Coming to the seats, all the seats are covered with perforated leather upholstery in a combination of black and red, which are extremely cushiony and comfy. The driver bucket seat features 8-way power adjustments while that of the passenger seat comes with 6-way adjustments. Both the seats feature heated as well as ventilated functions to offer an even more comfy ride.

The cabin room on offer is appreciable. You will get decent head, leg, and shoulder space both at the front and at the rear. The cargo space on offer is decent in the segment. It has a space of 30.5 cu-ft. behind the second row, while after folding the second-row seats, you can expect almost double space. Furthermore, the Blazer RS's high lift-over height makes it difficult to load big and bulky objects. A cargo rail is also provided with it, which helps in securing the luggage well.

Rear space is decent in all the cars and the Edge wins here also. The cargo volume is quite competitive and the RX350 has the least space while the Edge has the voluminous trunk. • Perforated leather upholstery.
  • Front bucket seats with heating and ventilating function.
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control AC.
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with heating function.
  • Ambient lighting

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Exterior

8.0/10

This car is a perfect combo of a muscle car and a crossover. At first glance, it definitely reminds you of Camaro-like styling from the front. The front facia looks sleek and bold with the slim DRLs merged with the dark chrome element and holds a Chevy emblem in black color. The front grille is massive in size with all-black color which is specially designed for RS trim. The same gloss black element runs over the alloys and the side body claddings, which really enhances the base color of the car.

The RS trim is equipped with 20-inches machined black aluminum alloys with low-profile tires. There is also an option of 21-inches which added some sportier stance. From the rear, the car doesn’t look that attractive but has enough sportier elements. The rear bumper got the same black treatment as the twin exhaust pipes, which are all genuine. The glass is dark tinted which not only protects the occupants from sunlight but also enhances its looks.
