The Grand Sport 2LT hits the sweet spot with its V8 450 hp engine and excellent driving dynamics. It doesn’t raise the price much form standard variant and comes equipped with advanced safety features.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Engine

The latest Corvette is absolutely the best yet, with acceleration, steering, cornering and braking that leave former iterations and many rivals in the dust. It's fast. And thrilling. The Corvette's comfort and convenience also help it carve its own niche in the sports-car world."  -Kelley Blue Book

Engine and Transmission

The small block V8 has been the heart of Corvettes since 1995, this normally aspirated 6.2 liters V8 generates 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The direct injection technology helps higher compression ratio and greater combustion efficiency. Variable Valve Timing optimizes camshaft timing to improve high-rpm horsepower and low-end torque. Race inspired technologies like dry sump oil system and oil spray piston cooling helps to keep the fluid levels on a check during corners and manage heat dissipation on higher RPMs respectively.

A 7 speed manual transmission is standard while an eight speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional. The 7 speed comes with active rev matching which optimizes smoothness and eliminates the need for heel and toe shifts. The 8 speed automatic offers precise shifts which compete for dual clutch rivals. The electronically limited slip differential helps in torque split to help maximize traction and acceleration out of corners.

The Corvette Z06 puts out the highest amount of horses and nothing comes close to it. The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and Porsche 911 Carrera is far behind despite of the bigger price tag. It is not about how much horsepower you produce but what matters is how you put it down on the tarmac.

Acceleration

The Corvette Grand Sport comes with launch control which regulates ignition timing to limit wheel spin for optimized acceleration runs. Just mat the gas pedal and it unleashes from standstill to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and the quarter mile can be thrashed in 10 seconds in favorable conditions.

The Corvette Z06 with its higher horsepower engine doesn’t win the race and clocked identical time like the AMG GT Coupe. The Porsche 911 is a second slower while the Jaguar F type stands at last.

Ride and Handling

The Corvette Grand Sport puts out 460 hp from its 6.2 liter V8 which more than enough for most individuals. An active sports exhaust system with butterfly valves helps to increase horsepower and modulate acoustic experience. The 7 speed manual transmission comes with rev matching while an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional. Power is exclusively routed to the rear wheels and an electronic limited-slip differential enhances stability.

The Grand Sport comes with five drive modes which are as follows:

  1. Tour Mode: Default setting for everyday driving and enhances comfort rather than outright performance.
  2. Weather Mode: This mode distributes appropriate power to the rear wheels in a rainy or snowy condition. The vehicle senses and adapts to road condition.
  3. Eco Mode: The Active Fuel Management maximizes fuel efficiency and limits power while cruising at lower speed.
  4. Sports Mode: The steering and magnetic ride control stiffen up for optimized performance. The sound of the performance exhaust also becomes aggressive.
  5. Track Mode: This mode enables launch control to provide instantaneous acceleration. Steering and suspension maximize responsiveness. The optional Performance Traction Management system is also enabled and gauges change to GTLM configuration.

The handling is very nimble and the car feels athletic. It offers an excellent amount of grip with comfortable ride making it one of the most fun to drive cars.

Braking

The Corvette Grand Sport comes equipped with 6 piston front calipers and 370 mm slotted rotors. The rear feature 4 piston calipers and 365 mm slotted rotors. They provide excellent stopping power in any situation and comes to a sudden stop from 60 mph in just 95 feet. The pedal feel is hard, yet it is easy to modulate in every traffic situation.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Fuel Economy

Looking at the Grand Sport, no one will think of fuel efficiency but it still manages to return good numbers. The Corvette Grand Sport with a manual transmission will return 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The eight speed automatic transmission delivers 1 mpg less in the city while the combined economy remains unchanged. Every Corvette comes with Active Fuel Management which temporarily deactivates four cylinders for better fuel economy and seamlessly reactivates them when the driver demands an increase of power.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Interior

"The Corvette didn’t become desirable because of its cabins, which have sometimes been distinctly joyless, plastic-y places over the years. That’s no longer the case. The 2019 Chevy Corvette’s interior is as smart as its exterior --  well built, well-appointed and one of the most comfortable in the sports-car class"  -KBB

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Exterior

In any guise, the Corvette is a blast to drive. But there's more than amazing performance to recommend the Corvette. The couple has a larger trunk than you'd expect, the seats are comfortable, and - especially when equipped with adaptive suspension dampers — the ride is surprisingly compliant- Edmunds

Dimensions and Weight

The 2019 Corvette Grand Sport is truly inspired by its older generations, long hood, and low slung roof is a must. The exterior looks aggressive with bold cuts and creases. The front splitter and overhang are so big that mid-sized creatures can take shelter during a hailstorm. Wide fenders accommodate wider wheels and tires for a confident, aggressive stance. Fender vents have a signature side cove that includes the Grand Sport badge. The front grille is Z06-style painted in Satin Black. Z06-style rear spoiler provides downforce to help keep Grand Sport planted to the track and quad exhaust tips in the middle finish the menacing look.

The Grand Sport Integrate sophisticated aerodynamic and cooling elements into the exterior while maintaining signature Corvette DNA. Grand Sport offers a special Heritage Package that includes fender hash marks, brushed-aluminum interior hash marks and floor mats with a Grand Sport logo.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Competition

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Coupe

The Mercedes- Benz AMG GT coupe is powered by twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A true driver's car, the GT comes with thrilling acceleration and agile handling. It also has one of the most stylish interiors in its class. The GT coupe is a step ahead in terms of overall performance and cabin quality when compared to the Grand Sport. It is definitely pricier than the Corvette but worth the price hike.

Porsche 911 Carrera

The Porsche 911 Carrera is one of the best handling cars for track driving. It cost $10 k more than the Corvette and comes with superb driving dynamics. In terms of performance both of them stand out in the luxury sports car segment. The suspension of Corvette is also compliant compared to the stiff adjustment in Carrera. Of the two, the Corvette is the better value for your money, since it comes with more standard amenities than the Cayman.

Jaguar F Type Coupe

The Jaguar F –Type from Britain is also track oriented like the Corvette Grand Sport. Both of them provide powerful engines with agile handling. The cabin quality of the Jaguar is also a level up when compared to the Corvette. The Chevy, on the other hand, has more trunk space, more amenities and easy to use the infotainment system. The F type is a good choice but the Corvette is a better choice in terms of overall performance.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Final Verdict

Think of the Grand Sport as basically equal to the track-ready Z06 in every way but with less power. This Chevrolet delivers outstanding performance and comes with a high quality interior. The Grand Sport may not shine in some aspects but brings a lot to the table.
