The Grand Sport 2LT hits the sweet spot with its V8 450 hp engine and excellent driving dynamics. It doesn’t raise the price much form standard variant and comes equipped with advanced safety features.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Engine

The latest Corvette is absolutely the best yet, with acceleration, steering, cornering and braking that leave former iterations and many rivals in the dust. It's fast. And thrilling. The Corvette's comfort and convenience also help it carve its own niche in the sports-car world."   -Kelley Blue Book

Engine and Transmission

The small block V8 has been the heart of Corvettes since 1995, the normally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 generates 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The direct injection technology helps higher compression ratio and greater combustion efficiency. Variable Valve Timing optimizes camshaft timing to improve high-rpm horsepower and low-end torque. Race inspired technologies like dry sump oil system and oil spray piston cooling helps to keep the fluid levels on a check during corners and manage heat levels on higher RPMs respectively.

A seven-speed manual transmission is standard while an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional. Standard seven-speed comes with active rev matching which optimizes smoothness and eliminates the need for heel and toe shifts. The optional eight-speed automatic offers precise shifts which compete for dual clutch rivals. The electronically limited slip differential helps in torque split to help maximize traction and acceleration out of corners.

The Chevrolet Grand Sport produces the highest amount of horses and Jaguar F comes at second spot with 365 hp. The Porsche stands at last because of the lower displacement engine.

The Corvette Grand Sport comes with launch control which regulates ignition timing to limit wheel spin for optimized acceleration runs. Just mat the gas pedal and it unleashes from standstill to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds.

The Chevrolet Grand Sport wins because of the obvious higher output. Porsche Boxter takes the second spot and Jaguar F takes the last spot and decimates the 0 to 60 mark in 5.4 seconds.

Ride and Handling

The Corvette Grand Sport puts out 460 hp from its 6.2 liter V8 which more than enough for most individuals. An active sports exhaust system with butterfly valves helps to increase horsepower and modulate sound levels. The 7 speed manual transmission comes with rev matching while an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional. Power is exclusively routed to the rear wheels and an electronic limited-slip differential enhances stability. The Grand Sport even with the soft top doesn’t lose its rigidity and remains as sturdy as the Targa top coupe. It can be lowered remotely up to 30 mph.

The Grand Sport comes with five drive modes which are as follows:

  1. Tour Mode: Default setting for everyday driving and enhances comfort rather than outright performance.
  2. Weather Mode: This mode distributes appropriate power to the rear wheels in a rainy or snowy condition. The vehicle senses and adapts to road condition.
  3. Eco Mode: The Active Fuel Management maximizes fuel efficiency and limits power while cruising at lower speed.
  4. Sports Mode: The steering and magnetic ride control stiffen up for optimized performance. The sound of the performance exhaust also becomes aggressive.
  5. Track Mode: This mode enables launch control to provide instantaneous acceleration. Steering and suspension maximize responsiveness. The optional Performance Traction Management system is also enabled and gauges change to GTLM configuration.

The handling is very nimble and the car feels athletic. It offers an excellent amount of grip with comfortable ride making it one of the most fun to drive cars.

The Corvette Grand Sport comes equipped with 6 piston front calipers and 370 mm slotted rotors. The rear feature 4 piston calipers and 365 mm slotted rotors. They provide excellent stopping power in any situation and comes to a sudden stop from 60 mph in just 95 feet.

The Corvette Grand Sport with a manual transmission will return 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The eight-speed automatic transmission delivers 1 mpg less in the city while the combined economy remains unchanged. Every Corvette comes with Active Fuel Management which temporarily deactivates four cylinders for better fuel economy and seamlessly reactivates them when the driver demands an increase of power.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Competition

Porsche Boxter 718

Like the Grand Sport Coupe, the Porsche Boxter is a soft top variant of Porsche Cayman. It cost about the same as the Corvette and comes with superb driving dynamics. In terms of performance both of them stand out in a luxury sports car segment. The suspension of Corvette is also compliant compared to the stiff adjustment in Boxter. Of the two, the Corvette is the better value for your money, since it comes with more standard amenities than the Cayman.

Jaguar F Type

The Jaguar F –Type from Britain is also track oriented like the Corvette Grand Sport. Both of them provide powerful engines with agile handling. The cabin quality of the Jaguar is also a level up when compared to the Corvette. The Chevy, on the other hand, has more trunk space, more amenities and easy to use the infotainment system. The F type is a good choice but the Corvette is a better choice in terms of overall performance.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Final Verdict

Think of the Grand Sport is track ready, just like the Zo6 but with less horsepower. Park this vehicle somewhere and the crowd will start snapping selfies with it. It is slightly softer to drive if compared with the coupe but still ferocious. This Chevrolet delivers outstanding performance and comes with a high quality interior. The Grand Sport may not shine in some aspects but brings a lot to the table.
