The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is bringing some mechanical changes to one of the most popular convertibles in the American market. The 2021 model year brought some useful upgrades in terms of features and exterior styling. The 2022 model year does not get any power boost but comes with an upgraded direct-fuel-injection system, improved engine calibration, and an enhanced active fuel management range. The changes to the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible get these changes to meet the new emissions mandate, and also to bring minor enhancements in the driving experience.

We recommend

Although the base trim of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, 1LT comes well-equipped, we recommend you to skip the base model and get the mid-trim 2LT. Since the rear visibility is very poor, you need the 2LT trim as it gets the blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert as standard. The 2LT trim also brings some useful updates in terms of the features like the heads-up display, wireless charging, and an upgraded Bose audio system.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Release Date

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is available for order from the 1st of July. According to GM Authority, the production of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is expected to start from the 6th of September, 2021.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Engine and Performance

9.5/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is powered by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine. The V8 engine produces a maximum power output of 490 horsepower and a maximum torque output of 465 pound-feet. The engine is mated to an 8-Speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the power is sent to the rear wheels. The 2022 model year has brought some minor changes under the hood of the Chevy Corvette Stingray. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible gets an upgraded direct-fuel-injection system, improved engine calibration, and an enhanced active fuel management range.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible In Acceleration Mode

The changes under the hood are not there to bring advancement in terms of the performance of the car, instead, it focuses on meeting the latest emissions mandates. However, there was no such need for performance improvement in the Chevy Corvette Stingray as the performance has always been impressive for the convertible. The power delivery is very smooth and the Corvette Stingray Convertible surges ahead right when you tap your foot down on the gas pedal.

The 2022 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible takes an impressive 3 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The quarter-mile timing is also excellent for the segment and the 2022 Corvette Stingray takes 11.2 seconds to complete the quarter-mile run. The outright acceleration from the naturally aspirated V8 engine will put a big smile on your face whenever you take it out for a sprint.

The handling of the Chevy Corvette Stingray is another big highlight of the car and enhances the overall driving experience. The steering wheel feels very precise and offers good confidence to the drivers. The communicative steering wheel combined with the sporty suspension makes up for an amazing driving experience. The suspension feels very agile and the car feels right at home in the corners.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible outperforms all the competitors in the segment when it comes to outright acceleration with a significant margin. The Chevy Corvette Stingray takes 3 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph and the quarter-mile timing is also the fastest of the lot at 11.2 seconds. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible comes at second position with 3.7 seconds in the 0 to 60 mph sprint. The 2021 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet comes at the third position followed by the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible which comes at the last position.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Fuel Economy

The fuel-economy expectations from a sports car are never a pleasant experience. The massive 6.2L naturally-aspirated V8 engine will not reward you with a great fuel economy. It is meant to deliver performance and doesn’t disappoint in that regard at all. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible returns a fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg of combined fuel efficiency. Although the fuel economy is not the best in the class, it is fair enough for the segment considering it comes with a naturally aspirated V8 engine. The 18.5-gallon fuel tank capacity results in an excellent highway range of 500 miles.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible comes with the least fuel economy in the segment when it comes to city driving conditions, but compensates with the best highway fuel economy compared to the rivals. The 2021 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet offers the best overall fuel economy in the segment.

The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible comes with the biggest fuel tank in the segment and also offers the best highway range followed by the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible with its smallest fuel tank in the segment offers the least highway range.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Interior

9.0/10

The 2022 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible comes with a similar interior design language to the 2021 model year. It came with some minor design changes with the 2021 model and still feels fresh. The cabin is centered towards the driver including the infotainment screen. The Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible comes in a two-seater configuration and is one of the most comfortable interiors in the segment. The ingress and egress might be an issue especially for the older people but once you get inside the cabin, it feels fairly comfortable.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Seats

The interior design of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible feels rather modern and the top 3LT trim gets carbon fiber trims inside the cabin. There are some upgrades in terms of the interior trim with the 3LT trim but our recommended 2LT trim also doesn’t look bad at all. The driving position is nice and sporty and the visibility in the front is also very good. The only downside for the driver is the rear visibility which feels poor. All the cabin controls are easy to use and the Chevy Corvette Stingray comes with a comfortable interior for the class.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is the only convertible in the segment that comes in a two-seater configuration. Still, none of the cars in the segment offer a very practical second row for adult passengers. On the flip side, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray comes with the biggest cargo area in the segment. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible has not revealed its exact interior space configuration but comes with the smallest trunk space for the segment. The Chevy offers the best-in-class legroom for the front passengers. Standout interior features are:

  • GT2 bucket seats
  • 8-way power-adjustable driver seats
  • Napa leather seating surfaces
  • Heated power-adjustable steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Remote vehicle starter system

How intuitive is the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible’s infotainment system?

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment gets a host of features to keep it at par with the other rivals. The touchscreen display feels very responsive to the touch inputs and the graphics of the screen are also fine. Still, it is not as good as some of its rivals. You will not have any complaint with the infotainment system unless you compare it against the rivals. The other infotainment features include Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Infotainment System

The connectivity of the screen is also not an issue and you can stream audio from two different devices simultaneously using Bluetooth connectivity. It also gets wireless smartphone integration using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get HD radio and a free trial of three months for SiriusXM radio with the infotainment. The standard audio system gets a 10-speaker audio system which can be upgraded to a better 14-speaker Bose audio system with the 2LT trim level. Standout infotainment features are:

  • An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system
  • HD radio and SiriusXM radio
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 14-speaker Bose audio system

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Exterior

9.0/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is one of the sexiest-looking cars in its class. No matter from which angle you look at it, the beautiful design language of the convertible will impress you with the looks. The front gets a muscular bonnet with sleek headlights on it that adds up sportiness to the overall design language. The side looks muscular and gets some sharp curves that match well with the other bits on the exterior.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Front Angle View

The side gets 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels at the rear. Unlike some of the other cars, the rear of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible does not get boring at all. The rear design gets attractive curves and a muscular design language. The LED brake lights and the quad-exhaust design complete the rear design in style.

The 2021 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet is the longest convertible in the segment and also comes with the longest wheelbase. It is also the widest car in the class and the heaviest of the lot. The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is the second-longest car and wheelbase of the lot followed by the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible comes with the smallest dimensions. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible also happens to be the lightest car in the segment. Standout exterior features are:

  • 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear
  • Power-folding hardtop painted body-color roof
  • LED headlights
  • Heated power-adjustable outside mirrors
  • Front intermittent wipers

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Safety

9.9/10

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not tested the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, so we don’t know about the crash-test rating yet. There is no concrete evidence to comment on the passive safety of the Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible.

But when it comes to the active safety of the 2022 Corvette Stingray Convertible, it is a big disappointment. The Corvette Stingray doesn’t come with any of the advanced driver-assistance features as standard with the base trim level. The mid-trim level 2LT adds the blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert as standard. Still, safety is a big compromise with the 2022 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible. The safety features include:

  • Active handling stability control
  • Traction control
  • Front and Rear Vision Cameras
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Competition

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible vs. 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible

The 2022 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible is a more value-for-money option against the 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible. The performance of the Vette is also an advantage that goes in Chevy’s favor. In every other aspect, the Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible is a better choice.

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible

It comes with better quality materials in the interior and a more practical design language. But to get the Porsche badge, you will have to spend quite a premium over the Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible vs. 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertibles is the slowest car in the segment and does not even come close to the Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible in terms of performance. The Chevy Vette is way ahead in terms of performance as it is the fastest car in the segment.

2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

The Lexus LC 500 on the other hand comes with a slightly more practical cabin compared to the Chevy counterpart. If performance is your priority, you should go with the Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible as it is also more affordable than the Lexus.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible vs. 2021 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG E53 Cabriolet is among the most practical convertibles in the segment. It offers a more premium cabin design and more brand value compared to Chevy, Still, it fails to come closer to the 2022 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible when it comes to performance. You can choose the one that best suits your requirements.

2021 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Final Verdict

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible offers an excellent package for a relatively affordable price. The performance of the Corvette Stingray is better than some of the more expensive sports cars. Chevy makes the package even better with an attractive exterior styling and a good quality interior. The best thing that goes in the favor of Chevy is the pricing. If you are looking for an all-around performance-oriented sports car on a budget, then the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible offers great value for your money.
