2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Complete In-depth Review & Buying Guide

Americans and their pickups go a long way. Because of their all-purpose nature and build quality, they have become one of the most preferred types of vehicle in America. From Ford to Chevrolet and many other foreign brands have entered into the American automotive industry to offer their trucks in the market and make a place of their own.

In 2019, Chevrolet introduces the latest iteration of its iconic truck as an answer to its competitors in the market. The truck has been completely redesigned from the bottom and on a new platform but with same fundamental ideas.

This time, Chevy offers 8 models to choose from along with six power trains options and a host of other options like cab size, bed size, engine etc. The base trim offers an option to choose between either a 4.3L V6 engine or a more powerful 2.7L Turbo engine, which adds another $5000 to the bill.

Pickups trucks have been an American-favorite for a long time. Maybe because of it’s the tough nature or its multi-purpose usage which makes it an all-rounder. These trucks symbolize the American ideology of taking on any challenge.

For over 2 decades, the Silverado has served the American people thereby becoming a mass favorite. For this year, Chevrolet has completely redesigned the truck from scratch. Also with a new design, Chevy has introduced a completely new model list to choose from, along with some additional choice of configurations ranging from cab size to engine and transmission.

Let’s dive into this truck to know more.

The base trim offers a powerful motor under the hood, but lacks on styling and additional features that the upper trims offer.

We recommend

To get the most out of your money, we recommend the LT variant as it offers a great combination of a powerful engine along with great interior, exterior and infotainment features and makes this variant a perfect for choice for those who have a tight budget but want a decent truck with most of the features in it.

the 6.2-liter's numbers make this Silverado quicker than its V-8–powered rivals. This all-wheel-drive crew-cab High Country lunges from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, beating similarly configured versions of the F-150 Platinum V-8” – car and driver

Engine and Transmission

The lowest trims, WT and CUSTOM, are offered with a standard 4.3L V6 engine which churns out 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The higher trims offer an option between either a 2.7L 7L engine producing 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque along with 8-speed automatic transmission or a 5.3L V8 producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque along with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The company also offers an optional 6.2L V8 engine along with a 10-speed automatic transmission with higher trims.

The Silverado comes bundled with a 4.3L mill which churns out 285 hp, but when F-150 and Ram 1500 comes into picture, it seems to be a liitle underpowered as Ram’s engine produces a massive 305 hp, which makes it a leader among its rivals. The Tacoma’s standard 3.5L motor produces 278 hp, which places it at the end of the line.

Acceleration

Generally, these trucks are either used as a daily driver or for towing and transportation. But due to their heavy weight and big engines, they can’t be driven on racetracks in place of sports cars.

While the truck feels powerful because of a massive engine under the hood, the gas pedal feels slightly heavy and not as satisfying as some its rivals have.

Braking

The brake system provided by Chevy is quite responsive and well-tuned. The brakes work progressively, i:e. the braking force directly depends on the force applied on the brake pedal.

All thanks to the well-tuned brakes, the braking feels predictable and smooth but the pedal takes a bit long to travel when compared to its competitors.

Ride and Handling

The powerful 4.3L V6 present under the hood makes the rider feel the power of the truck. The ride feels quite balanced and powerful due to the presence of highly responsive steering mechanism which makes it return quickly to its actual position and keeps the confidence level of the rider high. The body roll is significant but the smooth ride overshadows this con.

The truck’s handling is well responsive and feels balanced, though the steering feels at a heavier side. The braking performance is also great on this truck. Also, due to the extra weight reduction done by the engineers at Chevy, the ride feels light and not so taxing.

Towing Capacity

A typical value of towing for pickups is taken somewhere around 9000 lbs. Though all of these trucks have a number less than the average capacity, the Ram bags the pole position with the highest towing capacity of 7730 lbs, closely followed by the F-150 with 7700 lbs.

The definition of a perfect truck is that it offers both practicality and power without compromising on its overall ability. The Ford takes this fact seriously and offers a great mileage both in city and highway when compared to its rivals.

The Silverado's massive crew cab means there's plenty of space for four or five adults. Access to both rows is relatively easy” - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The interior of the Silverado offers a spacious cabin with a set of 2 rows and a capacity to fit up to 6 passengers comfortably. Silverado WT comes with cloth seats as leather seats are available in upper trims. The seats are very comfortable due to minimal side bolstering and simple design. The Chevy offers a generous amount of leg and head room in the both the rows.

To increase the comfort for the rider during trips, Chevy offers heated seats in the upper trims. The cabin feels quiet and insulated from the outside noise, but slight engine sound is audible inside the cabin. When at high speeds, the grunting sounds of the massive v6 do enter into the cabin but doesn’t affect the ambience much inside the cabin.

The F-150, when pitted against the Silverado, it gives a tough completion and also surpasses the Silverado in those areas. Be it price, power or even mileage, the F-150 proves to be a great shot. But when cargo space, interior and exterior dimensions are taken into view, the Silverado gets the limelight. Both the trucks have their own pros and cons. The Silverado is an amazing truck but if you can leave some extra inches in the cabin and cargo area for those extra miles with a great power output, then the ram 1500 is a truck to go for.

Chevrolet Silverado WT 4WD v/s Toyota Tacoma SR5 4WD

The Silverado gets a clear victory when pitched against the Tacoma in almost all of the segments. The Tacoma feels quite underpowered, small and less spacious though it has the highest number for ground clearance. The Silverado proves to be a bang for its buck but if your budget has a ceiling, then go for the Tacoma that has some stats lower than its American rival.
