The Chevrolet Trax is a competitive crossover from the stable of the big guys at Detroit and it does get plenty of things right as well. The 2018 Chevrolet Trax problems include a majority of suspension issues which saw a couple of recalls from the brand too. Apart from the suspension issues, the powertrain has seen the second-highest number of complaints followed by the electrical system. Officially, the 2018 Trax has seen a total of 53 complaints along with two recalls which are slightly higher than a few of its rivals but not a major deal-breaker. In the segment, the Chevy Trax rivals the Honda HR-V, the Ford EcoSport, and the Buick Encore along with a starting price tag of $21,000.

Chevrolet Trax user complaints and problems

Safety problems

  • Faulty airbag modules: A few owners noticed this issue in their vehicles. The faulty airbag module required multiple replacements on one case while on the other one, the passenger side airbag sensor was faulty.

Engine problems

  • Turbocharger problem: Several owners complained about their vehicles’ turbocharger. In most of the cases, a coolant leakage occurred from the turbocharger. The antifreeze leakage caused symptoms such as blue smoke, loss of power, and engine stall.
  • Emission system malfunction: One owner complained about this issue. The complaint was that the emission system of the vehicle malfunctioned which caused the engine to lose power momentarily while driving along with the check engine light coming on as well.
  • Non-return valve fault: One complaint was registered regarding this issue. The owner states in the report that due to the valve failure, the engine shook violently, gave numerous error codes, and stalled.

Mechanical problems

  • Faulty suspension: Several thousand vehicles were hit by this issue and the brand did issue two recalls regarding the same as well. A faulty weld on the lower control arm would cause it to break off suddenly, making the driver lose control of the vehicle.

Electrical problems

  • Instrument cluster and infotainment system malfunction: A handful of owners noticed some erratic behaviors from the dashboard and the instrument cluster on their vehicles. The most-reported problem was that the infotainment system and the instrument cluster would fail sometimes. In some cases, the problem was present even when the vehicle was in brand new condition.
