Chrysler has been having a spectacular run as an automaker and produced some iconic as well as beautiful luxury vehicles in the past. Within the modern lineup of cars, the Chrysler 300 sedan from the brand has been nothing short of an icon, especially due to its styling. Moreover, the sedan was well received across the globe due to the German underpinnings as well. The regular 300 sedan gets an S version with a similar powertrain with a higher state of tune delivering more power and torque. For the 2023 model year, the 300 S sedan will not see any changes and will still ride on the Mercedes-Benz W220 S Class-based front suspension along with the Mercedes-Benz W211 E Class-based 5-link rear suspension. The sedan will be offered in a single trim level only with the price starting at $42,155. The sedan is rivaled by the Nissan Maxima, the Toyota Avalon, and the Dodge Charger.


The 2023 Chrysler 300S will see no changes over the outgoing model and will be offered in a single trim level only. The price for the sedan is expected to start at $42,155 while getting the optional V8 would cost you an additional $3,195. Even though the sedan doesn’t offer several standard features unlike its immediate rivals, the list isn’t terrible either. As standard, the sedan gets all the features of the lower Touring and Touring L trim such as heated ORVMs, keyless entry and ignition, remote ignition, two-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, satellite radio, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The 300S gets its front seats swapped out for sports seats and the suspension system gets a sportier setup for enhanced handling. On the inside, the 300S additionally gets paddle shifters behind the steering wheel as well.

Release Date

The 2023 Chrysler 300S has been released and the brand will start accepting retail orders from October onwards. The sedan is expected to enter production in December 2022.

Engine and Performance

he 2023 Chrysler 300S will be powered by FCA’s favorite, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 which is also found on other vehicles from FCA as well. The engine runs on a higher state of tune over the regular 300 sedan’s motor and pushes out 300 horsepower along with 264 lb-ft of torque. The sedan was practically designed to be a cruiser and it does shine there even with the V6. Within the city limits, the driveability is excellent due to adequate grunt on tap while out on the highways, the sedan can do triple-digit speeds without much effort. Floor the throttle, and you’ll enjoy the slightly throaty yet deep sound from the motor. For a sedan of its size, the 300S accelerates briskly to 60mph from a standstill within 6.3 seconds and completes the quarter-mile run in under 15 seconds.

The Nissan Maxima gets a marginally smaller 3.5-liter V6 under its hood and has an identical horsepower rating to the 300S sedan. However, it is slightly quicker than the 300S due to its CVT unit and offers slightly better city driveability too. The Toyota Avalon gets a similar-sized V6 to the Maxima but makes one horsepower more than the rivals here. However, it is only .3 seconds quicker than the FCA twins and .2 seconds slower than the Maxima. The Dodge Charger houses an identical powertrain to the Chrysler 300S hence its power and torque output numbers are identical too.

The Chrysler 300S is a hefty and big sedan and it can be felt at some point while driving it. The steering is responsive and light at low speeds but weighs up nicely to make you feel additional heft apart from the car’s weight. Taking corners is fairly easy at moderate speeds for a sedan of its caliber but even the stiffer sport suspension setup doesn’t allow it to take sharp corners without body roll. Over regular patches of roads, the sedan feels quite comfy giving you the proper feel of a luxury sedan.

The Chrysler 300S isn’t a sports sedan by any means and the brand did not equip it with sports brakes either. However, it gets chunky, 13.6-inch front rotors along with 12.6-inch rear rotors. Despite weighing a substantial 4,013 lbs, the sedan comes to a complete stop from 60mph within 122 feet. The brake pedal is responsive and the brakes do offer adequate bite, inducing confidence while driving at high speeds.

The Nissan Maxima gets slightly smaller 12.6-inch front brake rotors along with 12.1-inch rear rotors. Despite that, the sedan comes to a complete stop within 113 feet, an impressive feat for the car and the entire segment. The Toyota Avalon gets the smallest set of brakes here and we expect it to stop after covering more distance than the rivals here even though its official stopping distance isn’t available at the moment. The Dodge Charger GT takes five more feet to come to a stop even though it shares the same front and rear brake rotors as the Chrysler 300S.

Fuel Economy

When equipped with the base motor, the Chrysler 300S returned some decent fuel economy figures and the upcoming 2023 300S will return similar numbers. In the city limits, the sedan returns an average of 19mpg while out on the highways, the number climbs to 30mpg. The combined mileage number is rated at 23mpg. The sedan compensates for the so-so EPA ratings with its sizable 18.5-gallon gasoline tank that allows the car to cover over 350 miles in the cities and over 550 miles out on the highways before needing to refuel.

The Nissan Maxima returns 1mpg more than the Chrysler 300S in the cities while the highway mileage is similar to the latter. The combined mileage of the Maxima is again one unit more than the 300S’s rating while the car offers slightly better driving range numbers than the latter as well. The Toyota Avalon is the most fuel-efficient one here with 22mpg of city mileage and 32mpg of highway mileage. However, it takes the back seat in terms of driving range due to its below-average gas tank size of 14.5 gallons only. The Dodge Charger GT shares identical city, highway, combined, and driving range numbers with the Chrysler 300S.


The Chrysler 300S has been a mechanical twin of the Dodge Charger for a long time now but gets a souped-up and more comfortable cabin than the latter. The 2023 Chrysler 300S’ cabin will get plenty of features since it sits on top of the trim lineup. Standard comfort and convenience features include premium leather seats, leather-wrapped and power-adjustable steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support adjustments, two-zone automatic climate control, and illuminated front and rear cup holders. Heating for both front and rear seats along with ventilation for front seats are offered as optional extras. The dashboard design looks quite dated but is covered by a rubberized plastic material that feels nice to touch while the lower part of the dashboard gets white stitching. The steering wheel doesn’t get a flat-bottom design but offers a good grip. The center stack remains clutter-free with minimal buttons but gets a wooden trim insert that follows up to the air-con controls below the infotainment display. Both the front and rear seats offer oodles of space while the 300S gets special sports front seats that offer enhanced support over the regular ones. Trunk space is commendable too at 16.3 cu-ft.

The Nissan Maxima gets a stylish and comfortable cabin, especially for the front passenger and the driver. However, it suffers from cramped rear seats and the trunk space is also mediocre at only 14.3 cu-ft. The Toyota Avalon’s cabin is surprisingly stylish and modern for a Toyota and feels almost as half comfy as a bigger Lexus sedan. The rear seat space is adequate for adults in the Avalon and the trunk space is also at par with the rivals at 16.1 cu-ft. The Dodge Charger GT’s interior looks and feels primitive as compared to the rivals, much like the Chrysler 300S but the cabin is spacious while the seats offer commendable comfort levels.

The Chrysler 300 hit the markets with a distinct and chunky American design language and even after the redesign back in 2011, the sedan has retained the base of the original design as well. The 300S doesn’t get any special visual treatment apart from the additional “S” badging at the rear. At the front, the sedan gets a big and rectangular-ish front grille that carries the Chrysler logo while the LED headlamps along with the LED DRLs flank the grille nicely. The Nissan Maxima is one of the best and most aggressive-looking sedans in the segment while its exterior dimensions are almost similar to a smaller sedan. Due to that, the rear seats fail to offer a comfortable experience to the occupants. The Toyota Avalon tries to look bold at the front but ends up looking quite polarizing instead. It is smaller than both the CHarger and the 300S but is bigger than the Nissan Maxima. The Dodge Charger GT might look visually different than the Chrysler 300S, but its external dimensions are almost similar to the latter.

The Chrysler 300S might not make much sense when there are better offerings in the segment, but it is also among the last of its kind. Apart from the chunky and muscular exterior design and solid performance, the car gets the basics right with its fewer than normal but practical features at its disposal. It disappoints in its safety aspect though, by missing out on crucial ADAS techs as standard. Overall, the 300S is worth the shot if you are looking for a comfortable full-size sedan with an immense road presence.
