The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica comes with an all-new AWD variant and a complete rejig of trim levels with the lower two trims L and LX now removed. The 2020 Pacifica's now starts at $34,045, a seven grand jump from last year which is mostly due to the deletion of the entry-level two trims. As standard, a 3.5-liter V6 and a 9-speed automatic gearbox do duty on the Pacifica. The V6 motor packs in sufficient punch to make the Pacifica move with zest around town and cover long distances even with a full load without breaking a sweat.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica

The 2020 Pacifica which came with an all-new design back in 2017 still remains very refreshing and has set new ambitions for the minivan segment. It's the most curvaceous van which does not compromise practicality and fuel economy. That said, the Pacifica even though has disrupted the segment with its futuristic looks and a luxurious cabin, still faces some stiff competition from the likes of Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Dodge Grand Caravan.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica covers a price range of $34,045 to $48,990 which is very steep for a minivan and could make you think that for this money one can get a mid-size SUV.  Well, that's the catch most of the urban customers rarely venture off-road and their majority of travel is limited to a smooth tarmac or is of point A to point B commute nature. So why go for an uncomfortable and gas-guzzling SUV when you can have the space and practicality of an SUV without compromising comfort and gas mileage.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Front Three-Quarter View

That said, the 2020 Pacifica comes in five trim levels with a V6 engine doing duty on all of them. The engine packs in sufficient punch to motivate this minivan be it in the stop-and-go city traffic or arrow straight freeways without losing steam. With class-leading mileage, a five-star safety rating, and the 'Top Safety Pick+' award from IIHS the Pacifica further cements itself as a family-friendly minivan that is high on comfort, practicality, and occupants safety.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Features

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Minivan has rejigged its trim lineup and now comes in five major trims namely Touring, Touring L, Touring L Plus, Limited, and Red S. The L and LX trim from last year have been dropped from the Pacifica lineup and made into a completely new Chrysler Voyager. The Pacifica Minivan comes with a naturally aspirated V6 engine on all trims while those looking for better gas mileage can have the Pacifica Hybrid which we have covered separately. That said, the base Touring trim of the Pacifica starts at $34,045 and is decently stacked with features for its asking price.

Next, you have the Touring L trim priced at $37,145 which sees only a handful of features added mostly inside the cabin. While in between the Touring L and Touring L Plus trim, the latter priced at $40,245, there is an AWD Launch Edition trim priced at $40,240 that gets second-row Stow 'n Go seats, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, 18-inch wheels, unique exterior and interior trims. Sitting at the top is Limited and Red S trim, the former starting at $44,795 while the latter is priced at $48,990, both the trims are stacked to the brim and comes with opulent interiors.

We Recommend

Out of all the trims we suggest sticking to the base Touring trim as it gets plenty of features and has a whole bunch of optional packages and features available. Thus you can get missing features added as per your need while keeping the prices in check.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Engine and Performance

By minivan standards, the Pacifica performs well. It handles better than average, with effective brakes and strong acceleration. It would get a better overall performance score if it weren't for the frustrating nine-speed transmission and vague steering”- Edmunds

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Engine and Transmission

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica minivan comes with a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine under its hood mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels except for the Launch Edition trim where the power is sent to all four wheels via AWD drivetrain. The V6 cranks out 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque which is sufficient to motivate this minivan.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Engine

Although there is no other engine option for Pacifica, the power from the engine feels sufficient for it. The power delivery is smooth and packs in plenty of punch when needed. Initial acceleration is smooth without any delays. However, the nine-speed automatic gearbox feels clunky at times.

The minivan segment is the land of cut-throat competition. Every brand's offerings are priced aggressively except for the Pacifica which commands the highest base price. Just for the sake of comparison, the Sienna is the most powerful minivan in the segment along with Pacifica.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Acceleration

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica goes from 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds while it covers a quarter-mile in 15.6 seconds. The V6 engine of the Pacifica is punchy but you need to work out this engine a bit to coax out decent acceleration numbers.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Driving

The initial acceleration feels sluggish but as you jab the pedal the Pacifica gets going and picks up pace in no time.

Though Pacifica’s performance is fair, it’s not the best. The Honda Odyssey is quicker and does 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, 0.8 seconds quicker than the Pacifica. Then comes the Toyota Sienna with its competitive 6.9 seconds 0-60 mph timing.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Ride and Handling

The ride and handling of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica are pretty decent and mature. The steering has sufficient heft to it and doesn't feel over-boosted. The feel and feedback are sufficient and for the most part, the steering feels connected to what's going down at the road.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Driving Side View

That said, the emergency maneuver and hard cornering are handled with a breeze thanks to the brilliant steering wheel and a pliant suspension setup. The ride quality of the Pacifica is plush and there is not much body movement while going over rough patches or while hard cornering.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Braking

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica under panic braking stops from 60-0 mph in just 119 feet. The Pacifica sports a 13-inch disc at the front and rear which honestly feels mediocre for a 4,330 lbs weighing minivan.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Brakes

The pedal is easy to modulate and has a relatively shorter travel distance but instead of having a gradual feel, it stiffens up quickly thus it isn't confidence-inspiring under panic braking.

Comparing with other vans the Pacifica is a light van, hence the performance in the panic brake test was best on it while the Honda Odyssey took as much as 4 feet more compared to it to stop from 60-0 mph.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Fuel Economy

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica minivan has an EPA estimated gas mileage of 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. If you happen to take the AWD version then be ready to see a dip of 2 mpg in the city gas mileage and a 3 mpg dip on the highway. The Pacifica comes with a slightly smaller 19-gallon fuel tank capacity.

Except for the Dodge Grand Caravan, all the minivans match the city gas mileage of the Pacifica while out on the highway only the Odyssey can match the figures of the Pacifica. That said, the Toyota Sienna offers a longer range in the city compared to the Pacifica due to its 1 gallon bigger fuel tank capacity.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Interior

Whether you're making the daily commute or spending a long weekend on the highway, the inside of the Pacifica is a pleasant place to be. If you're judging it strictly by the numbers, the Pacifica is marginally smaller than rivals, but it feels just as spacious as class leaders”- Edmunds

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Seating and Comfort

The cabin of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica feels airy, spacious, and comfortable. The quality of the materials used inside justifies the premium it asks for. There are a number of cubbies and smart storage spaces to keep the practicality quotient high. While the shorter bonnet and a lower dash ensure excellent outward visibility.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Cabin Front View

Pacifica can home seven to eight people in a go depending on the second-row seating option you pick. The seats offer a decent amount of comfort but the second-row seats aren't comfortable while the third-row seats lack legroom. Access to the second row is through a sliding door while the Stow 'n Go seats allow you to stash the rear seats in the floor to liberate a flat floor.

In this comparison, the Honda Odyssey has a well-laid-out cabin with a sufficient amount of space in all three rows to ensure all the passengers sit comfortably. In terms of cabin space, the next-in-line is the Pacifica followed by the Sienna while the Grand Caravan remains the one with the least amount of space on offer.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Infotainment System

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica gets a huge 8.4’’ touchscreen infotainment system which is bright, crisp, and color accurate. The basic layout is simple and very user-friendly with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay available as standard. Audio plays through a six-speaker sound system which feels inadequate for a big van. Thus, if you aren’t satisfied with it, there is an option for a 13-speaker Alpine sound system or a 20-speaker Harman & Kardon Sound system.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Infotainment

Going to the higher trims you get two large 10-inch screens in the 2nd row with a DVD/Blu-Ray player as a rear entertainment setup. Other available features include navigation, satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot, a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen, etc.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Cargo Capacity

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica offers 32.3 cubic feet of cargo space with all the seats up thus making the Pacifica a big utilitarian when it comes to cargo space. A great feature about the Pacifica is the Stow 'n Go feature which allows you to fold the second and third-row seats into the floor to open the full cargo bay.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Cargo

With all the seats out of the way, the Pacifica cargo bay is rated at 140. 5 cubic feet which is nice but not the best in the lot.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Exterior

Chrysler’s Batman-like logo is displayed prominently on the sleek front end, ahead of a smoothly shaped body. The Pacifica has embraced a minivan shape but updated it with curvy sheet metal and lots of glass”- The Car Connection

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Dimensions and Weight

The exterior design of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica has been retained for this year too and is expected to receive a complete redesign next year. That said, the majority of minivans look the same but the 2020 Pacifica adds a little flair to the design, and its soft exterior and curvaceous metal sheet help it stand out. It’s the most curvaceous van modeled over the boxy body which is a strong design statement.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Front Three-Quarter View

The Chrysler’s logo and grill look better than ever and feel like it was built exclusively for this van. Despite the big dimensions, the Pacifica clever design makes it look smaller. While looking at the dimensions of 203.8-inches in length, 79.6-inches in width, and 69.9-inches in height, it is hard to believe the fact.

Overall also the dimensions of the Pacifica are bigger than the rivals minivans except for the ground clearance. As for the ground clearance the Toyota Sienna offers the highest 6.5-inches a total of 1.4-inches more than Pacifica's ground clearance.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Safety

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica features a long list of safety features along with a strong bodyshell. The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica was tested by NHTSA and IIHS and the van excelled in both. IIHS names the 2020 Pacifica as its 'Top Safety Pick+' and NHTSA awarded it with a 5-star score in overall safety rating.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica IIHS Crash Test

As said earlier the list of safety features is long with active safety features like blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, cross-traffic alert, and more available right from the base trim. While other available driver-assist features include automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, etc.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Competition

2020 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan

The 2020 Dodge Caravan is exactly what an ideal van looks like. It has space for seven and a plush cabin with a boxy exterior design. Similar to the Pacifica there is enough power to hustle in the city traffic and hit the country road on the weekend. Though it’s a decent van and matches everything the Pacifica does, as a buyer, you cannot resist Pacifica’s futuristic look. Also, in terms of fuel economy, Chrysler is a little more efficient.

2020 Dodge Grand Caravan

But a glance at the base trims of both the minivans and the price difference, the Dodge Grand Caravan although looks barebones but its seven grand lower pricing compared to the Pacifica sure outweighs the pros of the latter. Although those looking for a luxurious and a more premium van won't shy away from Pacifica's steep price tag.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2020 Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is the segment leader and boasts bigger dimensions and better utility, the Odyssey also is more nimble and faster accelerating than the Pacifica. The fact that this version of the Odyssey was launched last year and is more practical is reason enough to sway customers.

2020 Honda Odyssey

In comparison to the Pacifica, the Odyssey is more nimble and offers more cabin space in all three rows yet manages to beat the cargo capacity of the former with all the rows up. However, one thing which is absent in Honda is the Stow 'n Go seats thus taking away a couple of brownie points here. If you can let go of the Stow 'n Go seat part then the Odyssey is the much better choice over the Pacifica.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Final Verdict

Minivans used to be boxy, ugly, and practical, the type of vehicle you would only buy when you have no other choice in your budget. However, the Chrysler Pacifica has surpassed the traditional minivan image. It’s futuristic body and interior makes it the most handsome minivan in the segment. The Chrysler‘s V6 engine cranks out enough power to handle your family’s chores in the city and cruise on the highway even under full load. The handling is also decent while the ride quality remains plush. Economy and practicality remains unrivaled and average to what other vans deliver. Overall the only thing that pinches is the higher entry price compared to the other brands but then the base trim of the Pacifica is loaded enough to not make you look further in the trim level.
