Arguably one of the most stylish offerings in the minivan segment from Chrysler, the current-gen Pacifica started its life as a minivan for the 2017 model year. Although it was recently when the minivan finally made it as a production model, its concept was developed way back in 1999. But after 2017, the minivan got a complete change for the 2021 model year which brought some huge changes like a refreshed interior and exterior design, new infotainment, and an array of safety features now as standard.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Since there aren’t any announcements for a generation upgrade, and the 2021 model already getting some huge updates, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is expected to be more or less a carryover model with some typical minor yearly refreshes. The 2022 Pacifica will be available in four different trim levels to choose from, just like the 2021 model. Although a pretty competent competitor in its segment, it faces steep competition from the likes of Kia Carnival, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Features

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica would be offered in four trims as last year with no changes in the features list. The trim ladder goes like Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle. All the trims except for the Limited and Pinnacle can be had in either FWD or AWD configuration. While the Limited and Pinnacle trim come in AWD as standard. Standard across all the trims is a 3.6-liter Pentastar VVT V6 engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Chrysler also offers a slew of package options to better equip your Pacifica minivan. Some optional packages include Mopar Interior Protection Package, S Appearance Package, Trailer Tow Group with 3600 lbs rating, Uconnect theater family group, etc. The above-mentioned packages are available across all trims except those that are part of standard fitment on the particular trim. Prices aren’t out yet but we expect a few dollar increases over the 2021 prices.

We Recommend

We recommend going for the Limited trim as for under $50,000 you get an AWD setup with many added features over the base trim. Features like heated & ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, tri-pane sunroof, navigation, and premium leather-trimmed seats are justified for the premium you pay. And being a van these small nifty features makes it much more comfortable for you and your family while in the van.

Price

We expect the prices of the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica to range from $36,690 for the base Touring trim and would go up to $54,885 for the topmost Pinnacle trim.

Release Date

As of now, nothing has been officially shared by the company. But according to records, you can expect the 2022 Pacifica to hit the market in the fall of 2021. But due to the current situation, it might even delay to early 2022.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Engine and Performance

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is going to be a carryover model. Based on that, all the non-hybrid Pacifica would be powered by a 287-horsepower V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Touring and Touring L come standard with front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option. The Limited and Pinnacle trims come with AWD as standard. The hybrid variants on the other hand are powered by the same engine but with an additional two electric motors backed up by a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery, and come equipped with an electrically variable-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid Pacifica makes less total power of 260 HP.

As for the performance figures, depending on the spec, the 0-60 mph times of the 2021 Pacifica varies from 7.9 seconds to 8.3 seconds. Quarter-mile time ranges from 16.1 to 16.3 seconds. The 2022 Pacifica should also be around in the same ballpark. You won’t be breaking any speed records soon, but it is plenty adequate for a practical family minivan. Honda Odyssey is the fastest here doing 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds and quarter-mile in 15.0 seconds. Next comes Toyota Sienna with 0-60 mph time of 7 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 15.3 seconds.

The Pacifica last year got an all-new rear sway bar and revised tuning for the front and rear suspension resulting in improved driving dynamics. A front suspension is a strut unit, and in the rear, it gets a Trailing Arm system, which can deliver a composed and decently stable ride, which helps in giving a car-like experience while cruising down some winding roads. Now we expect this to remain the same but will update this once we get our hands on the 2022 Pacifica.

In terms of power and torque, the Kia Carnival is the most powerful with 290 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque under its hood. Next comes Chrysler Pacifica with 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque followed by Honda Odyssey with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. While the Toyota Sienna with 245 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque is the least powerful minivan here.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Fuel Economy

Coming to the fuel economy figures, the Chrysler Pacifica’s non-hybrid variant can deliver 17 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg on the highway, if you opt for the all-wheel-drive drivetrain. But if you opt for the front-wheel drivetrain, the fuel economy is slightly better at 19 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the highway. That being said, both have a combined mileage of 22 mpg, which are pretty reasonable figures. The non-hybrid Pacifica comes with a 19.0-gallon fuel tank and gets you 418 miles of combined range from a tankful.

Although the Chrysler Pacifica is in a similar ballpark with most of its competitors or might be even better and you can expect a 19 mpg in the city and 22 mpg of combined gas mileage from all except Toyota Sienna which being a hybrid returns 36 mpg in all conditions. Pacifica and Odyssey return 28 mpg on the highway which is the highest among all gas-powered minivans. Next comes Carnival which returns 26 mpg of gas mileage on highways, the least among all.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Interior

The Chrysler Pacifica has a really attractive and modern-looking interior. The curves and the round edges give it a satisfying vibe to look at. With one of Pacifica's two new available integrated consoles, you have the option to choose here as well. The Pinnacle integrated Ultra center console, one of the most functional in its class, seamlessly blends into the instrument panel with the transition assisted by two soft wings bordered with accent stitch.

If we talk about the lower trim levels, although the overall interior look and feel are pretty upscale, especially for its price, some cheap plastics here and there kind of ruins the overall experience. But if we talk about the higher trim levels, it is a whole different story. A striking Caramel and Piano Black color theme, exclusive to the Pinnacle model, defines the interior.

Caramel Nappa leather seats are embellished with quilted seat side bolsters and perforated seat inserts and seatbacks on all three rows. Elite interior features become standard equipment more than ever before for the 2021 Pacifica lineup, including a seven-inch digital cluster, a soft-touch instrument panel with accent stitching, and second-row sunshades. Although a few updates are expected in the interior of the 2022 Pacifica, most of it should remain mostly the same.

If we talk about seating space in all three rows then the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna are the most spacious minivan among all. While in the first two rows the Chrysler Pacifica and Kia Carnival dominate with maximum space offered. Coming to the cargo space Kia Carnival boasts a segment-best 40.2 cubic feet of cargo space. Next comes the Honda Odyssey with 38.6 cubic feet of cargo space followed by the Toyota Sienna with 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Pacifica trails all with 32.3 cubic feet of the cargo area.

The infotainment of the Chrysler Pacifica is a Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen standard across the range. Other standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, AM/FM, SiriusXM, etc. While a six-speaker audio setup with active noise cancellation is standard, higher trims get either a 13-speaker Alpine audio setup or an 18-speaker Harman and Kardon premium audio setup. Other available features include Integrated voice command with Bluetooth, navigation with SiriusXM, single overhead DVD player, etc. Highlights of the infotainment system include:

  • Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 6-speaker audio setup
  • Bluetooth hands-free
  • AM/FM
  • SiriusXM with 360L

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Exterior

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica got a refreshed exterior design, which is likely to be carried forward to the 2022 model as well. Although the overall design might not be anything fancy or eye-catching, it is a really simple and nice-looking design, to say the least. Depending on the trim level, unique finishes accentuates the overall design of the car which includes a Satin Carbon Grille and Platinum Chrome on all exterior surrounds, moldings, and badging in place of standard Bright Chrome. The 2021 Pacifica is available in ten different shades to choose from, which is likely to get a refresh for the 2022 model. Overall, the new design of the Pacifica expresses a more deeply sculpted, athletic, and modern, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Chrysler Pacifica remains the same and will be 204.3-inches long, 79.6-inches wide, 69.-inches in height, and will get a 121.6-inches of wheelbase. Compared to that Honda Odyssey is 1-inch longer, 1-inch less wide, has almost similar height, and 3.5-inches shorter wheelbase. Kia Carnival has the highest ground clear=ance of 6.8-inches. Toyota Sienna has 04-inches less ground clearance followed by Chrysler Pacifica with 1.7-inches of lesser ground clearance than the Kia Carnival.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Safety

According to Chrysler themselves, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica delivered the most standard safety features in the industry, with 97 standards and 14 new-as-standard safety features, including new LED lights and new PAEB. Some of the notable safety features include Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, along with an array of similar other features. Going to the structural level, it has a stronger metal body structure for A-pillar and B-pillar, along with something called the Passenger Side Small Offset Rigid Barrier (SORB). That being said, the 2021 Pacifica has not been fully tested by NHTSA yet. But in the individual tests performed, it got five out of five stars.

Its IIHS test results are also on the same line. It has been tested in six different parameters by IIHS, and it got the maximum possible rating of ‘Good’ in all the individual tests, which is great. Since all the tech and structural engineering are done in the 2021 Pacifica will be carried forward to the 2022 model, the 2022 Pacifica should also be expected to be similarly safe, if not better. Highlights of the safety features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Multiple Airbags
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Rear-Cross Path Detection System
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Competition

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2022 Honda Odyssey

Honda hasn’t tinkered much with the Odyssey over the years and tried to keep it as original as possible. Hence the overall recipe of the 2022 Odyssey is quite simple, but it has worked for Honda over the years. With a practical and easy-to-use interior, a strong V6 engine under the hood, with excellent road manners for which cars from Honda are known, the Odyssey has a different approach.

But as time passed by, it has started to become a little less relevant in the competition. A perfect example is a competition from the Pacifica which takes the edge due to the option of AWD drivetrain, and a plug-in hybrid variant, for the customers who need or want these features. On top of that, the Pacifica arguably has a vast array of modern tech and features, including a more up-to-date infotainment system.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2021 Toyota Sienna

With a bold and striking look from the outside, the 2021 Sienna delivers as to how it looks, sort of. Thanks to the standard hybrid powertrain it is significantly more efficient than Pacifica. But the unit does lack the punch, especially for a minivan as big as the Sienna. The lack of power is very much evident, especially under full-load. But Sienna happens to be more spacious than the Pacifica which is a plus here. That said, apart from interior space, the Pacifica is a much superior offering between the two.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2022 Kia Carnival

The Kia Carnival happens to be almost similar to the Chrysler Pacifica except for the better cargo space it has compared to the Pacifica. What does take the matter into its favor is its competitive price which is around $3,000 less than the Chrysler. That said, the Kia Carnival also gets exceptional safety ratings and comes with a host of features that makes it the toughest rival of the Pacifica here.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica Final Verdict

The Chrysler Pacifica competes in a very niche segment of the market. A person going for a minivan has a vast array of expectations, and fulfilling all or most of them is no easy task. That being said, this minivan manages to tick most of the boxes, and that too in a competent manner as well. Chrysler has done a great job in keeping it up-to-date and relevant to the market.

The Pacifica has the potential to give the other minivans in its segment a serious run for their money, and this is translating into its sales figures as well. The 2022 Pacifica might be a carryover model, but the mild yearly refresh will be enough to keep it competitive, at least for now. If you are planning on getting a new minivan, you can go for the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica without any hesitation.
