The Challenger has always been known for its muscular design and its high-performance engines. The 2022 Dodge Challenger is a part of the third generation of the Challenger and is a blast from the past as it exudes an old-school persona with some serious muscle under the hood. The entry-level SXT trim starts at $30,940 and offers a V6 engine that produces 303 horsepower while top trims like the 'Jailbreak' produce north of 800 horsepower which is absolutely mind-boggling.

While the Challenger is a great car overall, there have been some user complaints about the vehicle. In this article, we will explore these user complaints in detail and discuss whether you should consider buying the 2022 Dodge Challenger.

2022 Dodge Challenger User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - Many owners have reported stalling issues. There have been several reasons for this, including water entering the engine manifold and transmission failure. Some drivers have even reported their engines needing to be replaced.
  • Transmission - The automatic transmission in the Challenger is reported to produce jolts and jerks at low RPMs and speeds. This can cause the car to stall or stop abruptly.
  • Suspension - Some owners have reported problems with the car's suspension, including excessive vibration and noise. This can make for an uncomfortable driving experience, especially on longer trips.

Exterior Problems

  • Size and weight - Some drivers have reported that the Challenger is too big and heavy, making it difficult to park or maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Paint - A few drivers have reported issues with the paint quality on their Challenger. Specifically, the paint has been known to chip or scratch easily, leading to a less-than-perfect appearance over time.

TPMS issues

Inoperative TPMS sensors will not alert the driver to low tire pressure. In addition, a TPMS warning light that is already illuminated from a failed battery sensor will mask an actual tire pressure failure issue. Either of these scenarios can result in tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the TPMS sensors, as necessary, free of charge.

Should you buy the 2022 Dodge Challenger?

While the Challenger has its fair share of problems, it remains a popular option among muscle car enthusiasts. If you’re looking for a car that’s old school and remains true to its muscle car roots, then the Challenger is a great option. It’s also the only two-door muscle car to offer all-wheel drive in the GT trim. However, based on the user complaints, it seems that the 2022 Dodge Challenger has some serious issues that need to be addressed. There are alternative options for those who are hesitant to purchase the Challenger like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Both these cars have their own unique features and benefits, so it’s important to do your research and find the one that best fits your needs and preferences.
