The 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack is perhaps the craziest sedan in the market and comes powered by a humongous 6.4L HEMI V8 churning out nearly 500 horses. The engine is capable of insane times and blistering quarter-mile speeds but the most important of all, it is one of a kind and sees practically no competition from any car in its price bracket.

Now, you might wonder that this might be something very expensive but the Charger Scat Pack is just priced at about $42,000 which makes people wonder and astounded at how Dodge manages to put all this in a car and sell it with that price tag. All these factors make it an irresistible package and anybody who is hunting for a practical muscle car will just love this.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Features

The 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack is offered in just one trim level that is priced at $42,000 and gets a mammoth 6.4 liter, V8 engine and is only offered with a rear-wheel-drive configuration. The Charger Scat Pack gets a WideBody package which as the same suggests gets the car wider bumpers and side skirts and flared fenders and also a wider track. The wider Scat Pack costs about $47,990.

The Charger Scat Pack is also offered with an optional safety package that gets some advanced safety features like blind-spot monitoring, collision alert, lane departure warning, cross-traffic alert, etc., and we would highly recommend you to opt for this package. Dodge also offers some packages for cosmetic upgrades like the Satin Black appearance package and Carbon package to enhance the look of the car and you can opt for whatever suits your taste the best.

Which Trim should you buy?

There’s just one trim on offer and so that’s the only one you can buy. For a more menacing appearance, you can opt for the WideBody package but the regular Charger Scat Pack also looks quite intimidating. Apart from the styling, the Charger Scat Pack is every bit of a muscle car with a big V8 up front and tire-eating power figures that ensure that everyone has a grin on their face. The car is pretty loaded in terms of features and is the best choice for someone who likes the rawness of HEMI V8s, and the ability to scare 4 people simultaneously.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Engine and Performance

7.5/10

Almost all automakers around the world are focused on making smaller, energy-efficient engines with hybrid and electronic technology and then there’s Dodge who is busy showing off to the world that they can swap an engine from a truck in a 4-door sedan and make it go crazy fast. The Dodge Charger Scat Pack has a humongous 6.4 liter, normally aspirated, V8 engine under its hood. The engine makes 485 horses and 475 lb-ft of torque which is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all the power and torque is sent to the rear wheels only.

Just like the crazy power and torque numbers, the Charger Scat Pack also has crazy performance numbers. On the straight line, the Charger can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and do the quarter-mile run in about 12.4 seconds. The power and performance figures of the Charger are absolutely phenomenal and it virtually has no competition. And yes, this one has a very loud engine grunt as well.

Almost all 4-door sedans in the market come with tiny turbocharged engines and there are no other cars in the market that even compare close to the Dodge. All the other similarly powered cars cost a lot of premium over the Dodge, giving it the best price/performance ratio.

How well does the 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack handle?

Well, Dodge’s never really had the reputation for being great handlers and this one is no different. The Charger Scat Pack is all about crazy straight lines but if one expects it to bend along the curves perfectly, then the Charger is set to disappoint. It has a traction control system that aids the handling but the rear end still feels lost out around the curves, which can also be quite scary at times.

The steering wheel is pretty decent and has a solid feel to it. It has ample feedback to offer and even if it isn’t the most precise, it still is pretty good by Dodge standards. Yes, it can feel a bit vague at times but you can live with it. In the city, the Scat Pack’s suspension is quite firm and the drive ought to be uncomfortable but the same is a big advantage on smoother roads as well as on the highway with a potent engine and a smooth gearbox.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Braking performance

The Charger Scat Pack comes with a pretty strong set of brakes. It gets 13.8-inch discs at the rear and 14.2-inch discs at the front that bring the car to a complete stop from 60 mph. These huge rotors are coupled with all the latest and greatest braking tech from Dodge and together, they bring the Charger to a stop at a distance of just 107 feet - which is quite impressive given the fact that this car weighs over 4,000 lbs.

The Kia Stinger has the best braking performance in the competition and just travels 104 feet before coming to a halt from 60 mph. The INFINITI is on the other end of the spectrum, coming to a halt at 110 feet, which is worse than the Dodge’s. The Audi’s stats aren’t out yet but given the weight and the braking setup, expect it to post a distance anywhere between the Kia and the Dodge.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Fuel Economy

4.5/10

While planning a car that has a massive, naturally aspirated engine, one should probably forget about fuel economy. While this Dodge doesn’t have a hefty price tag, its fuel expenses surely are going to burn a hole in one’s wallet. The Charger Scat Pack goes for about 15 miles in the city on a single gallon while on the highway it can haul up to about 24 miles. It gets a combined fuel economy rating of 18 MPG from the EPA which is the lowest in the competition.

The Audi S4 has the best fuel economy numbers among all four cars and slightly edges ahead of the INFINITI - by one MPG. Given the latter’s massive fuel tank, the range is way better than what the Audi has on offer. The Kia’s ratings are closer to what the Dodge has on offer despite a smaller engine, but the range is lower due to the smaller tank.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Interior

The interior of the 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack is just functional and practical - there’s nothing fancy inside and is just a no-frills layout. The cabin is colored in all-black and there are aluminum inserts all over. Upfront, there is a nice and grippy steering wheel and there’s also an analog instrument cluster in sporty red color. The infotainment system sits right in the center of the dash and there are 4 rectangular air conditioner vents that look neat. The quality of materials and plastics is pretty decent on the inside although there are a few bits that might just feel a little too cheap for a car at this price point.

At the front, there are nice and tight bucket seats that have aggressive bolsters on them to hold you well in place. The seats aren’t all that cushy though and the support could’ve really been better. On the flip side though, the amount of space at the front is good and doesn’t feel cramped in any way. The back seats feel a little too upright and could’ve been a slightly more relaxed angle for the back seats. The under-thigh support at the back is a tad bit low and it could’ve been better. Head, shoulder, and legroom at the back are good and two adults and a kid can squeeze in well at the back.

In terms of practicality, it has a trunk that can swallow up to about 16.5 cubic feet of luggage which is pretty good. There are also plenty of storage spaces on the inside as well. There are cup holders in the front center console along with a little storage cubby below the armrest. There are bottle holders in all four doors and there are also cupholders in the rear center armrest.

The Dodge is the biggest car in the competition and thus it has the most spacious cabin in the competition but the cabin design of the rivals is superior and feels much plusher and upscale too. The Audi hands down have the best cabin layout and use some very premium and high-quality materials and you won’t get that kind of cabin feel and ambiance in any other car. That being said, some of the highlighting features inside are:

  • 8-way power-adjustable heated front seats
  • Fabric upholstery
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Dual-zone front automatic climate control
  • Illuminated locking glove box
  • Leather-wrapped gear shift knob

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The Charger gets a pretty basic infotainment system powered by Dodge’s UConnect infotainment system that can be accessed via an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. The system is decent enough and quite easy to use. The interface is simple and intuitive which is a good thing. The quality of the screen is not all that great and sometimes you have to press on the screen hard to operate it. The list of infotainment features isn’t all that long yet and we’ve listed a few bits below:

  • 6-speaker, 276-watt Alpine audio system
  • The 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • Bluetooth smartphone integration
  • Voice activation
  • Steering mounted audio controls
  • AM/FM radio

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Exterior

7.5/10

The Dodge Charger moniker has been in the market for a long time and if there’s a car that has only gotten better with each generation, it has to be this one. At the front, the Charger has a split rectangular grille with polygonal headlights that give it a subtle and aggressive fascia. The grilles are functional and there are no fake vents on the car. It also has a scooped-out hood with functional vents for better cooling. It looks striking from the side and Dodge has tried to give the classic three-box sedan design a sporty touch.

At the back, there are split tail lights with dual light bars with the Dodge letter engraved between the two light bars. The car also has a carbon fiber spoiler at the back that just looks very sporty. One might expect a performance car like this one to have extreme rad styling but no; Dodge has kept things simple and it is very unique in its own way. The Dodge might not attract many eyeballs with the way it looks but this car turns heads with its exhaust note.

The Dodge Charger might not appeal to everyone’s taste and many people would find it a touch too bland looking for a 400+ hp car. The Audi S4 on the other hand has that sporty persona and looks very athletic. The Stinger looks aggressive but some people might find it a bit overdone. The Audi has a very subtle design approach again and has a very neat and clean look to it. That being said, the Dodge still looks the most menacing and some of the highlighting exterior features are:

  • 20-inch gloss granite crystal wheels
  • Speed-sensitive variable intermittent wipers with heated jets
  • Front lip spoiler
  • Auto on/off halogen projector-beam headlights
  • DRLs
  • LED brake lights

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Safety

The Charger Scat Pack is a very safe car despite the lack of standard safety features. It gets good crash test scores from the NHTSA and the IIHS - the NHTSA has awarded the Dodge 5-star overall safety rating while the IIHS grades it a ‘Good’ rating. These things just imply that the Charger is a safe car and it will indeed keep you protected. The Charger also comes equipped with a few standard safety features which are listed below:

  • Side impact beams
  • Driver knee airbag
  • Backup camera
  • Tire pressure monitoring
  • Available lane-departure warning system
  • Available forward-collision warning
  • Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Competition

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack vs. 2020 Kia Stinger GT

The Dodge Charger is pricier than the Kia Stinger by about $1000 but then it has so much more on offer. The Charger’s engine makes 120 horses more than the Stinger and is also quicker than it on the straight line. The Stinger offers better fuel economy and also handles better than the Dodge whereas the Dodge is bigger than the Kia and thus has more passenger and cargo space on offer.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack vs. 2020 INFINITI Q40 Red Sport 400

Priced at around $52,000, the INFINITI Q40 Red Sport 400 is a performance luxury sedan and hence the level of sophistication of the inside is way better than the Dodge. The interior of the INFINITI is well crafted and looks beautiful and it feels much better while also being more comfortable. The Dodge is more powerful, has a bigger cabin but suffers in the fuel economy and interior craftsmanship.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack vs. 2020 Audi S4 Premium Quattro

The Audi S4 costs about $8,000 more than the Dodge Charger but then it offers a very promising package. The Audi uses a smaller 3 liter, turbo, V6 unit and makes about 100 horses less but in spite of the power deficit, the S4 sedan delivers acceleration numbers that are very similar to the Charger. The Dodge, on the other hand, is a brute that eats through tires and prefers burnout at all intersections and turns, while not being as irresponsible as some other muscle cars. The cabin is roomy and can fit 4 people comfortably, but the craftsmanship is rather absent when compared to the Audi.

2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Sedan Final Verdict

The Dodge Charger Scat Pack is a crazy machine. It is perhaps one of the last 4-door sedans to get a naturally aspirated V8 engine and is also one of the cheapest cars to get a V8 unit. It is pretty quick on the straight line and is one of the most fun-to-drive cars in the market. On the outside, it has that typical American muscle car look and has a very intimidating appearance. On the inside, it is pretty comfortable and gets all the basic features you will ever need. It is a very practical performance car and such cars are a rare breed.
