First introduced in 1964, the Dodge Charger has been one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time. It boasted great looks, a driver-friendly cabin, jaw-dropping power, and, of course, a long list of features. Dodge, fortunately, hasn’t talked about discontinuing the Charger unlike Toyota and its plans for the Avalon. Hence, we expect the Charger to remain the top dog for Dodge for at least a couple of years.

2022 Dodge Charger Dashboard

For the 2022 MY, Dodge offers the Charger in a wide variety of trims. The only change this year is the addition of a deluxe security alarm to the Scat Pack. We’ll talk about the interior of the base trims in this review, while the special R/T, SRT Hellcat, and Scat Pack are to be reviewed separately. Speaking of rivals, the 2022 Dodge Charger doesn’t feel plushy like the Toyota Avalon but fares well against it and the Nissan Maxima and Chrysler 300.

2022 Dodge Charger Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

2022 Charger offers seats for five, and the amount of legroom offered to both the front and rear passengers is respectable. The cabin is driver-focused, and the controls are easy to understand and are logically placed. The cabin is constructed mostly of plastics. Speaking of the dashboard design it feels outdated than that of the competitors. The lower trims come with a plastic dashboard featuring black plastic parts, metal-look interior accents, and aluminum console inserts. The upper trims offer a dashboard covered with stitched leatherette inserts. The interior is too driver-focused and it misses out on appeal. Though the rear seats offer excellent support, comfort, and enough legroom, they fail to offer adequate headroom because of the sloping roofline. Rear visibility is also challenging because of the thick C-pillars.

2022 Dodge Charger Rear Seats

As standard, you get a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped gear shifter. As standard, you get premium black cloth upholstery. Houndstooth cloth seats cost $195 extra. But that can be upgraded to Nappa leather seats. The front row comes with an 8-way power-adjustable seat, a 4-way power-adjustable lumbar, and a 4-way manually adjustable front passenger seat. The rear row comes equipped with 60/40 split-folding bench seats. Climbing up the trim ladder, you get power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats, Nappa, Alcantara, or Laguna leather upholstery, performance seats, a heated and multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters or a performance steering wheel, heated rear seats and more.

Rear Row (Head/Shoulder/Leg) (in)

Chrysler 300 has the largest cabin of all the sedans here. Both its front and rear row are spacious and comfortable. However, the cabin of the Toyota Avalon feels the best in the competition owing to its modern and refined design. Its seats feel the most comfortable and spacious among all the sedans here. On the other hand, the Dodge Charger and Nissan Maxima are more practical and rugged.

2022 Dodge Charger Infotainment

As standard, the 2022 Charger SXT gets a 7-inch touchscreen display with the Uconnect 4 UI loaded inside. The UI is smooth and user-friendly. The cabin comes equipped with a six-speaker audio system. The infotainment system also gets features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth with voice command, SiriusXM Radio, navigation, and USB ports for charging and media.

2022 Dodge Charger Infotainment System

The higher trims offer a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker Alpine premium audio system, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, HD Radio, and SiriusXM Guardian. A Harman Kardon 19-speaker premium audio system is optional.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 8.4-inch 4C Nav touchscreen display
  • 6-speaker Alpine premium audio system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Bluetooth services
  • Voice command
  • Navigation with voice control and destination assist
  • SiriusXM Radio and Guardian

2022 Dodge Charger Cargo Capacity

2022 Charger offers a 16.3-cubic-foot cargo trunk. However, the rear seats, once folded, offer additional space for storing cargo items. The standard cargo space can hold 3–4 bags and luggage.

2022 Dodge Charger Trunk Space

The cargo opening is not as large as some might expect, but it is of a respectable size and wide enough to allow easy loading. Also, the cargo floor is optimal, not too low or too high.

Maximum Cargo Capacity (cubic feet)

The Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300 offer the most spacious standard cargo trunks. We expect the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger to offer more additional space than the rest, when you fold down the seats.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

You get several secondary storage spaces. The front row comes equipped with a cooled and illuminated glovebox, a small compartment for mobile storage, a center armrest with some storage space provided inside, a pair of cup holders both at the front and rear seats, and door bins attached to all the doors. Additionally, the seats offer some space underneath.

2022 Dodge Charger Creature Comforts

2022 Dodge Charger is equipped with several comforts and convenience features. The SXT offers premium cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver seat with a power-adjustable lumbar, a manually-adjustable front passenger seat, a folding rear seat, active head restraints, a headliner module, a dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a cabin air filter, illuminated cup holders and a rear window defroster.

The higher trims get Laguna leather seats, power-adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel, premium door trim panel, carpeted floor mats, rear climate controls, and many more.

2022 Dodge Charger gets a pretty basic cabin that is durable, spacious, comfortable, and stuffed with all the essential features. The cabin of the SXT is ideal for daily use and boasts nothing fancy. However, if you want things to feel premium, we recommend you buy the higher trims. You can upgrade to Nappa, Alcantara, or Laguna leather upholstery, power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a superior infotainment system, and many more.
