The 2022 Ferrari Roma coupe is one of the brand’s most interesting cars on offer. It continues to entice buyers with its luxuries and the design that it manages to blend ever so effortlessly with the aerodynamics is another great charm. The Ferrari Roma manages to blend old-school charm with the latest technology and if this is the direction future Ferrari Berlinettas are headed, we would definitely be happy. A beautiful Italian supercar with all the bells and whistles one can hope for, what more would one want?

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Freshly introduced for the 2021 model year, the 2022 model is a continuation without much in the name of changes. Prices start at an MSRP of $225,000 and that gives you one of the most practical Ferraris that you can find today. However, it does not mean any of that turns it into a car that is the least bit boring. It is available in a single trim level and there are several other options that you can pick, albeit at an extra cost. It represents the best of technology in terms of luxury sports cars and competes against the Aston Martin DB11, Bentley Continental GT W 12 and Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The Ferrari Roma Coupe is available in a single trim level while the rest of the changes between individual cars depend on what options you prefer. Even though it is quite expensive, it comes with an excellent infotainment system, an excellent engine and powertrain and so on that should keep its owners very happy even in the base trim. One will find that the car is pretty well equipped for an entry-level Ferrari and provides a very good platform for people who are looking to get a taste of the brand. You get an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery, six-speaker audio system, heated and powered seats and so on which is plenty for a supercar of this league.

Key Features

Remote activated perimeter/approach lights

Heated and powered seats

Locking fuel flap included with power door locks

Leather and Alcantara interior inserts

Leather upholstery

8.4" touchscreen infotainment system

Apple CarPlay

6-speaker audio system

LED headlights with LED DRLs

We recommend

It is not hard selecting which trim to buy because there is only one trim on offer. However, one might go dizzy looking at the options list as well as the personalization the brand offers for the particular model. But what truly makes the car special is how you want to equip yours and impart your taste into the car. To this extent, Ferrari offers a lot of paint finishes, interior options, wheels, and features that, even though quite expensive, will make your car truly special. We would recommend that you pick what you like from the extensive options list.

2022 Ferrari Roma Coupe Release date

Although Ferrari has announced that there will be a 2022 version of the Roma, there has been no official word on when exactly this car would reach us, customers. As part of official releases so far, we expect that this date might be around early 2022. There have been no confirmations from the brand but we understand the delay as there have been several issues in the supply chain for most automotive manufacturers. We can expect customer cars are coming real soon but till then, we can only hold our breath and wait.

Engine and Performance

Being a Ferrari, one would not expect the brand to offer you anything but the best in terms of engine and performance. The Ferrari Roma is powered by a 3.9 L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that produces 612 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. Being a classic Berlinetta bodied car, it goes without saying that the drivetrain is rear-wheel drive. This gives it ground-breaking levels of traction as well as handling prowess due to the electronic trickery associated with it. One of the only weak points of this car is that steering is not exactly the most communicative and hence would let down some customers.

The transmission that comes along with the car is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic which Ferrari has now perfected after years and years behind it. Its acceleration is extremely quick because of the transmission and engine tuning. This results in a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a quarter-mile time of just 11.5 seconds which is not too far off from many supercars. The top speed of this car has been tested to be 199 mph which is just a wee bit shy of the 200 mph mark. The handling of the car feels athletic and capable and would not disappoint anyone.

Among the competitors, the Ferrari is a slightly more expensive option, but its competitors are often more powerful. However, when it comes to real-world performance, all the competitors remain nearly identical except the Porsche 911 Turbo S which has a significant advantage in terms of acceleration. This is due to the traction it has with its rear-engined layout. The Aston Martin has the highest top speed which is surprising even though the car is much heavier. In terms of acceleration figures, all of the rest are nearly equal in the Ferrari has a very slight advantage in terms of the times.

Fuel Economy

When you understand this car is powered by a 3.9 L V-8 engine and so on, it does not try to fool you into believing that it is super fuel-efficient. That’s the thing with V-8s, they end up drinking as much as they could and end up burning a hole in your pocket. However, the technology of today’s era has definitely reduced fuel consumption a lot. Modern-day Ferraris are much more fuel-efficient than the ones we have seen back in the day. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Roma returns 18 MPG combined which is an unheard figure in this segment. Even the city fuel efficiency is 16 MPG and combined with a tank of 21.1 gallons, it gives it serious credentials to be a continent crusher.

We find that the Aston Martin has the highest range figures out of this category while the Porsche 911 claims the least. However, this has got to do with how small the 911’s fuel tank is because it produces comparable numbers to the Ferrari. The fuel efficiency of all cars is nearly at par but the Bentley is on the lower end of the spectrum. A massive fuel tank saves it some disgrace and puts its overall range right next to the Porsche. The Mercedes-AMG engine that you find in the Aston Martin is definitely impressive as it has excellent fuel efficiency figures alongside a good amount of power.

Ferrari has nearly mastered the ergonomic driving position that makes people play around with their cars. The latest car from their line-up, the Ferrari Roma is no exception. We find that the interior is plush with leather and suede while everything is in its right place. There are a number of material comforts inside the car that include heated and powered front seats, great infotainment, and so on. Ferrari has made it a point to concentrate on giving a very good impression for customers who are finding their way into the brand through this car. The material quality is high up among the best you can currently find anywhere.

One is also greeted with excellent fit and finish which is setting new standards for the automotive industry as a whole. Ingress and egress are surprisingly easy and that is quite an advantage for a supercar. The driver information displays a 16 inch fully digital gauge cluster and breathes a lot of modernity into the car. There is not a lot of space inside the cabin but you will not find yourself complaining. The seats are very supportive while also being extremely light and visibility is also great from the cabin. Cargo capacity is very low but that is not something that buyers in the segment exactly look for.

If there is one category in which the Bentley outperforms competitors by standing mile it is in terms of interior. However, one advantage of all cars in this category is that they all offer space for four passengers which makes them very practical supercars. The interior dimensions of most are unknown but they are very much lesser than the Bentley. As well as the cargo space, the Bentley sets the category benchmark but the Ferrari follows it very close. All are extremely modern and dynamic in terms of design and promise very unique driving experiences. Some standard features include:

  • Alcantara and leather inserts
  • Leather upholstery
  • Many interior customization options and leather colors
  • Flat bottom steering wheel
  • Aluminum pedals and paddle shifters
  • Automatic climate control
  • Heated and powered seats

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2022 Ferrari Roma Coupe?

When it comes to infotainment options, there is a 16-inch driver information display that sits behind the steering wheel. The driver information display is fully digital this time around and delivers you all the information you need. There is also a very decent touchscreen infotainment system that is 8.4 inches in size and has all the features that modern cars have. The audio system is also quite nice and provides smartphone connectivity. There is also a separate screen for the front passenger. Overall, it has quite impressive features in this department. Some features of the infotainment system include:

  • Apple CarPlay
  • 8.5" touchscreen infotainment system
  • Voice recognition
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Steering mounted control
  • Navigation
  • SiriusXM radio
  • Bluetooth

The Ferrari Roma is one of the most beautiful cars that exist in the world. Period. We feel that the flowing lines on this coupé are all exactly where they should be and the exterior blends purposeful aerodynamics and poetic aesthetics in the best way possible. It is not entirely futuristic and the design is a look back at the tradition of Ferrari while also looking ahead at the design direction the company is supposed to go in. It has an excellent road presence and is a very special thing to look at. The company also offers a wide range of exciting colors and beans that make it even more good-looking. It has a certain dynamism to the design and a sense of purpose that is very much distinguishable. If the looks of this car do not attract buyers to it, we do not know of any other car that is capable of doing so.

The Porsche 911 is the smallest car by a lot but we also have to remember that there are also a bit cheaper and also the fastest. Porsche has traditionally had a very short wheelbase which makes it much more agile and nimble than its competitors. The Bentley is extremely long and heavy, tipping the scales at nearly 5322 pounds. In terms of weight, Porsche and Ferrari are the ones that have managed to implement weight-saving strategies the most. These have also been too much higher performance standards than the rest of the competition that has focused on doing. In terms of ground clearance, all cars offer the minimum acceptable amount but the Aston Martin suffers the most in this department. Some standout features include:

  • LED headlights with LED DRLs
  • Heated and powered side mirrors
  • Carbon fiber exterior elements
  • 20" alloy wheels
  • More than 30 exterior colors
  • LED taillights
  • Quad exhaust tips

When it comes to safety, Ferrari has always given their cars the best possible results. It has always provided excellent technology in terms of structural engineering in the car and has also invested a lot in driver assistance technology. However, being a car that is produced in extremely low volumes, it has not been evaluated by the NHTSA or the IIHS, and nor will it ever be. It comes with most of the advanced safety features available in the market today as standard features and one can rest assured that it is a safe car. It also has some of the most modern driver assistance features we would ever find in a car. Some of the standout safety features include:

  • ABS with EBD
  • Brake assist
  • Traction control
  • Stability control
  • DRLs
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Side impact beams
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert

2022 Ferrari Roma Coupe Vs. 2022 Aston Martin DB11

The Aston Martin DB11 and Ferrari Roma are based on somewhat the same philosophy. However, it is offered at a slightly lower price than the Roma and is also built to similar standards in terms of build quality. The Mercedes engine that you find in the Aston Martin is also very much excellent, delivering supremely capable performance and good for your efficiency and the side. The Aston Martin also offers very charming interiors and a lot of personalization there as well.

2022 Ferrari Roma Coupe vs. 2022 Bentley Continental GT W12

The Bentley Continental GT is the most sporty offering from the British brand. However, it is not a car that is as optimized for performance as the Ferrari is. It comes with a lot of functional advantages but has been compromised in terms of its performance. The Bentley is bathed in luxury while the Ferrari is an athletic touring car. Hence, buyers would have to decide between what their priorities are and pick one of the two.

2022 Ferrari Roma Coupe Vs. 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the original supermarket supercar. How it got that name is because it is a very practical everyday car while it has remained one that can trash every supercar on the track. It offers better performance credentials and also excellent build quality. It can absolutely obliterate the Ferrari Roma while also delivering a much more superior driving experience. However, one of its only disadvantages is that it does not feel as aesthetically pleasing or special as an Italian supercar like the Ferrari Roma. It must surely be a more exciting car to drive than the Ferrari but it appeals to a very different audience.

Final Verdict

The new Ferrari Roma coupé is an extremely rare and high-performing car that is available at a very hefty price tag. For us, its appeal is that it is an entry-level Ferrari with all the bells and whistles one would want to be convinced about the brand. With the current model being introduced only in 2021, it is also as modern as it gets in terms of convenience infotainment features. It has very slight practical sacrifices but none that we would not expect in a car of this category. It is certainly a car many of us aspire to own so if you have the money and the means, certainly go for it.
