The 2021 Bronco marked the end of a 22 year-long hiatus of this legendary nameplate. After years of speculation and teasers, Ford brought back the iconic “Bronco” as a very modern yet retro-styled, off-roading SUV that would directly take on the likes of Jeep Gladiator and Land Rover Defender.

The 2022 Ford Bronco will continue offering the same thrill, the same adrenaline rush that the American automaker promised while announcing the Bronco last year, albeit with three new exterior paint options. They include Eruption Green, Hot Pepper Red Metallic, and Cyber Orange.

Just like its predecessor, the new Bronco remains an efficient and versatile SUV that can dominate both on and off the road. Although, the retro-styling and inherited off-roading capabilities are coupled with modern touches of technology and comfort that will surely hurt its rivals. The SUV comes with impressive features like Bronco Underbody Protection, Front and Rear Electronic Locking Differential, G.O.A.T Modes, Ford Co-Pilot360, and SYCN 4 Technology for all-round performance. Prices of the 2022 model are yet to be announced, however, the current 2021 Ford Bronco starts at $28,500.

The first 5 Ford Bronco trims, including the BASE up to the BADLANDS, offer a 2.3L EcoBoost engine while the WILDTRAK and FIRST EDITION trims offer a 2.7L V6 engine. The Bronco also offers various packages with systematic disbursement of features. The various packages on offer are Standard Package, MID Package, High Package, Lux Package, and Sasquatch Package.

Ford hasn’t announced the pricing of the 2022 Bronco, but it should be around the same range as the 2021 model. The cheapest 2-door Bronco can be availed from $29,995, including destination, while the 4-door Bronco starts higher at $34,695. Ford has not announced release or sale dates yet, but we expect production to begin in summer with a slight delay from the original spring timeframe.

2022 Ford Bronco Engine and Performance

The 2022 Ford Bronco will seek no changes under the hood. This means the base engine will be a turbocharged 2.3L Inline-4 that punches out 270-hp and 310 lb-ft of peak torque. The buyers can also upgrade to a more powerful 2.7L V6 engine that produces 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. However, the fans won’t be able to retrieve the thrill of the brawny V8 that used to power the icon 22 years back. But with the future being biased to electric and hybrid powertrains, Ford has planned to offer a hybrid version too in the coming future. The base engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic which will bring smiles to the faces of purists. This gearbox will offer the 94.75:1 crawler ratio, which will add extreme off-road capabilities to the Bronco SUV.

The other transmission includes a 10-speed automatic that will add convenience and would suit the range of buyers looking to the 2022 Ford Bronco as a fancy daily driver. The standard layout of the 2022 Ford Bronco will feature the 4WD drivetrain while AWD will be optional to the buyers. Advanced technology is what will promote the Ford Bronco as a modernized and revived legend. Something similar will be felt with the electronic aids and various off-road modes, which Ford markets as G.O.A.T. modes (Go Over Any Terrain) that offer customized ride modes for slippery terrain, mud, sand, rock crawling, and high-speed Baja-style running.

Then there’s the “Trail Assist” feature that will assist the Bronco on tight corners by holding the brake onto the inside rear wheel. In addition to obvious Hill descent control, the 2022 Ford Bronco will also feature a one-pedal driving setting to appreciate eased driving on tricky patches, it will activate the brakes for the driver, as they shift onto the accelerator to hold a grip on such terrains. Except for the Jeep Wrangler, the rivals don’t offer any brawny V8 options, even in their upper trims. Looking at the figures will make the Ford Bronco the most powerful off-roader on the list. The fancy electronic aids are featured on the rivals as well, making them neck-to-neck capable on off-roads as well.

2022 Ford Bronco Fuel Economy

8.0/10

Besides performance, fuel economy is the second most important aspect to SUV buyers. The 2022 Ford Bronco won’t disappoint the buyers as it offers a decent fuel economy. With no changes to the powertrain, one can expect figures like 20/22/21 mpg in city/highway/combined driving scenarios.

A 21-gallon fuel tank is accompanied to keep feeding the engine with fossil fuel which can stretch the iconic Bronco to 483 combined miles. If fuel economy and mileage are the priority, the Jeep Wrangler should satisfy the thirst on busted terrains and still deliver great figures.

2022 Ford Bronco Interior

8.0/10

The Ford Bronco was revived in 2021, after 22 years, but it was done with a modern touch of technology and comfort. The 2022 Ford Bronco will carry over the same exciting traits. The majority of the seating surfaces will utilize waterproof materials so that off-roads and the consequence of muddy water and dust won’t keep you away from such terrains for the second run onwards. The interiors will entertain a crowd of every age. The thoughtful designers have designed a rack on the dashboard top where cameras and smartphones can be mounted to record every terrain that you control and trails that the 2022 Ford Bronco will conquer.

There are rubberized and washable floor mats too to keep off all the dirt. The wide range of upholstery material options can range from uber-functional vinyl grade to opulent leather to decorate the interiors. When it comes to infotainment, the 2022 Ford Bronco won’t feel old. The screen size of the infotainment will range from 8-inch in base to 12-inch on getting an upgrade. The screens will be featuring Ford’s SYNC 4, which can be upgraded with over-the-air updates.

2022 Ford Bronco Exterior

6.0/10

The retro-styling and resurrected aesthetic appeal will drive the attention of the majority of the customers and even eyes on the roads. The revived 2022 Ford Bronco will feature the inspired round headlamps from the legend that ruled 22 years before. This time, there's a new Eruption Green exterior color option inspired by Mallard Green shade of the Bronco from 1970.

Appearance-wise, the “Bronco” has a titled grille, huge wheel arches, and big wheels to travel on the worst roads with dusty patches or water-logged unpaved patches. Just like the previous Bronco, the 2022 Bronco will also have removable body panels, including the roof and doors. The Bronco will be available in both 2-door and 4-door variants.

The looks are stunning and there’s no chance of ignoring this icon upon having a slight glimpse. The figures suggest that the 2022 Ford Bronco is the longest and widest of the lot, yet the lightest off-roading SUV to grab. Though the Defender offers the best ground clearance, which would give it an edge in off-road skill show-off.

Some highlighted exterior features included in the Ford Bronco are:

  • LED lighting all round
  • Removable roof
  • Integrated roll cage in the curtain bars
  • Tailgate mounted full-sized spare wheel
  • 11 eye-popping exterior shades
  • 3 body styles- Modular 2-door, and 4-door and 4-door crossover

2022 Ford Bronco Safety

9.0/10

Even in the current model year, the 2021 Ford Bronco has not been through the crash test conducted by either NHTSA or IIHS. However, the safety of this SUV is not to be doubted in any way. The 2022 Ford Bronco will carry over the rugged framework and robust chassis from the current model year.

The Ford Bronco equips a plethora of safety features, some of which are:

  • Personal Safety System
  • Airbags
  • AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) -
  • Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Inflatable Safety Belts
  • forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert.

2022 Ford Bronco Competition

6.0/10

Ford Bronco vs. Jeep Wrangler

The 2022 Ford Bronco is already a step ahead of its natural rival Jeep Wrangler by being a revived legendary nameplate that will surely attract more crowds. In terms of performance, the Bronco flaunts better figures. To this, the Jeep Wrangler can respond to a wider powertrain option which includes hybrid and electric variant options coming shortly. The Jeep Wrangler has been around for a while now, while the Ford Bronco will re-enter the market after 22 years, you see where are we going with this?

Jeep Wrangler

Ford Bronco vs. Land Rover Defender

The 2022 Ford Bronco and the 2022 Land Rover Defender are more closely matched off-roading SUV duets. But the Bronco offers value-based features. The big margin in the price is obvious with the luxury that the Land Rover Defender offers. With the smallest engine displacement, the Defender might seem to be underpowered on paper, but real-world scenarios have depicted how this British off-roading SUV tackles the hardest challenges. Though it is the heftiest of the lot, the unmatched ground clearance and advanced technology bits give it an edge over all rivals, including the 2022 Ford Bronco.

Land Rover Defender

2022 Ford Bronco Final Verdict

The 2022 Ford Bronco is a no-brainer pick in its segment. It comes with powerful powertrain options and is highly skilled in off-road runs. The Bronco has a revived vibe and retro-styled design cues, yet the modern touch inside will appeal to buyers of all ages. The 2022 model could also add hybrid options which will promote Ford’s “Go-green” campaign after its major nameplates also going hybrid or electric. All in all, we would certainly recommend considering the 2022 Bronco for many action-packed off-road adventures to come.
