However, in this review, we are going to talk about the Ford Edge ST which is the performance version of the Ford Edge. Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

On the flip side, the interior is not as good-looking as the exterior and kind of feels quaint and unexciting except for the vertical infotainment touchscreen on the center. The transmission, on the other hand, feels a bit sluggish and slightly less responsive. Also, the ride quality is stiff over bumps and potholes. For 2022, it is expected to have a new wheel design, noise-canceling tech, slight upgrades in the infotainment system and some revamps in the interior. Moreover, it has some key competitors such as the Chevrolet Blazer RS, Nissan Murano, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Features

As you can see, the 2022 Ford Edge ST is expected to come in only trim level with a base estimated price of $44,000. It is the sportiest version of the Ford Edge available in the market right now. The ST trim is loaded with a wide array of modern features and technologies that amazes you. To start with, it is the only trim to boast a V6 engine that offers extraordinary performance at your disposal. Apart from that, it also has huge 20 inches blacked-out alloy wheels that look great and gives an upright stature and sport-tuned suspension that amplifies the dynamics and cornering ability of the SUV.

As standard, some of the features include Black and body-colored exterior trim, Front sport seats with silver stitching, Leather and suede-like upholstery, 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, Seven-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel-drive. However, the 2022 Ford Edge is speculated to have redesigned alloy wheels, a revamped infotainment system, and an interior with minor changes. Hence, the features list may vary a little for the new version.

Which Trim should you buy?

Since there is only trim on offer, we would recommend you go for the ST trim. Not only does it offer impeccable performance but also offers great comfort at the same time. Additionally, Ford also offers a lot of packages to enhance the comfort and driving experience of the Edge ST. Some of the packages include Equipment Group 400A, ST Performance Brake Package, Cargo Accessory Package, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist Plus Package. The Equipment Group 400A comes as a complement with Active Transmission Warm-up.

The ST Performance brake package is the best package on offer, it comes with some cool features such as vented brake shields, Brushless Radiator Cooling Fan, Performance Brake Pads, Painted Colorado Red Brake Calipers, tire inflator, and sealant kit, and so on. This package would cost you an extra $2695. The Cargo accessory package, on the other hand, can be added by paying an additional $295 which is quite a bargain. It offers features like Retractable Cargo Area Cover, Cargo Mat, and Rear Bumper Protector

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Engine and Performance

The 2022 Ford Edge ST is powered by a powerful 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that churns out 335 hp @ 5550 RPM and 380 lb-ft of torque at 380 lb-ft of torque that delivers strong powerband right from the lower RPMs. This robust engine comes mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox that feels a little less responsive but works effortlessly to send all the power to an all-wheel-drive system that manages to put down all the horses to the road by offering great traction.

The performance of this motor is impressive and flaunts a strong character. Despite being a hefty SUV, it manages to deliver incredible performance during flat-out acceleration. Coming to the performance part, the Ford Edge ST hits 60 mph in 6 seconds which is the quickest car of the line and the quarter-mile run takes 14.7 seconds. Moreover, the Ford Edge ST goes all the way up to 130 mph which is among the fastest SUVs in the segment. Thanks to the relentless powertrain. Moreover, with an adaptive sport suspension that reduces the body roll by a great margin when compared to the other versions of the Ford Edge. This sports suspension also provides better handling in corners at high speeds. It almost feels like a sports car with an SUV body.

In comparison, The Ford Edge ST is hands down the fastest car in the segment and boasts impressive performance. On the other hand, the Chevrolet Blazer RS also offers an impressive throttle response and has a quarter-mile time of 14.7 seconds which is on par with the Ford Edge. The Jeep Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, puts out 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it takes 7.6 seconds to hit 60 mph while the quarter-mile time of both Jeep Cherokee and Nissan Murano are neck and neck. The SUV with the highest top speed is the Nissan Murano which manages to hit a top speed of 140 mph which is also the least powerful engine of the lot. Hence, it is evident that the Nissan Murano is a very competitive car in the segment.

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Fuel Economy

Albeit having the most powerful engine, the fuel economy offered by the Ford Edge ST is pretty decent if not great. This Power-packed SUV offers a claimed fuel economy of 19 MPG in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. In addition to this, the vehicle boasts a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg. Unfortunately, with its smallest fuel tank, the driving range is below the segment standards. With an 18.5-gallon fuel tank underneath, the Ford Edge ST is able to traverse a distance of 352 miles in the city, 481 miles on the highway, and a combined 388 miles which seems to be very dismal. It could have offered a great driving range if it had a bigger fuel tank.

A quick comparison of the Ford Edge ST with its rivals reveals that the fuel economy levels offered by the car are decent and on par with some of its rivals. The SUVs like the 2021 Nissan Murano and Chevrolet Blazer RS, however, offer significantly better fuel economy figures and a larger tank as well. The Nissan Murano’s underpowered engine reflects in its fuel economy and returns a fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined 23 mpg. However, with its 19-gallon fuel tank, it is not the best in terms of driving range. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the clear winner in terms of range and fuel tank size. It is equipped with a massive 24.6-gallon fuel tank which in turn allows it to traverse a distance of 443 miles in the city, 615 miles on the highway, and a combined 516 miles.

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Interior

Things get quite simple and minimalistic inside the Ford Edge ST. It is not as flamboyant as the exterior styling of the car. The only thing that grabs your attention as soon as you step inside is the large vertical infotainment screen. There are not many highlight features in the interior. To start with, it gets a cool-looking rotating gear shift knob that looks absolutely premium. Although the dashboard looks bland and quaint, the materials used inside the cabin are premium and upscale. Moreover, the steering wheel looks very sporty and it is wrapped in leather with ST badging at the bottom of the steering wheel. Apart from that, it gets Leather-Trimmed Heated ST Bolstered Bucket Seats as an option that looks and feels great and offers solid shoulder support. It also offers 10-way power adjustment with memory functions. On the whole, it is a good-looking interior but could have been better.

However, the 2022 model is expected to come with some tweaks in the interior. On the interior dimensions front, the Ford never lets you down, it certainly offers the most spacious cabin in its class, it offers the highest overall space in the front and rear as well. It measures a headroom of 40.2 inches in the front and 40.3 inches in the rear which really comes as a surprise. Moreover, it offers generous legroom of 42.6 inches in the front and 40.6 inches at the rear. Like every other car in the segment, it provides seating for 5 people. It offers the largest cargo space of 39.2 cubic feet as well.

Comparing the competition, the cabin of the Chevrolet Blazer RS is quite spacious next to the Ford Edge and is on par with all the other SUVs in the segment. However, the quality and finish of the Blazer’s cabin are better and appealing than most rivals. In terms of cargo space, the Nissan Murano loses out to the competition by offering the smallest cargo volume of 31.1 cubic feet. Nevertheless, all these cars come with a similar-sized cabin. Some of the standout and optional interior features are as follows:

  • Front sport seats with silver stitching
  • Leather and suede-like upholstery
  • 2 Seatback Storage Pockets
  • Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column
  • Tilt Front Head Restraints and Manual Adjustable Rear Head Restraints
  • Metal-Look Gear Shifter Material
  • Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The infotainment system on the Ford Edge ST seems to be certainly well packed with very smart and intuitive infotainment features. It comes with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is available as standard across all the trims. Unlike some cars in this segment, the touchscreen looks crisp and is very sensitive and there is barely any lag while using it. This system gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, while a 12-speaker premium audio system from Bang & Olufsen offers a concert-like experience. On the features front, it comes with all the modern infotainment features. Some of the standout infotainment features include:

  • 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system
  • SiriusXM w/360L -inc: a 3-month prepaid subscription
  • Speed-compensated volume
  • Adaptive dash cards and conversational voice command recognition
  • SYNC 4A w/Enhanced Voice Recognition

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Exterior

The exterior design looks absolutely spectacular. With the ford performance metallic blue, it looks like a pumped-up Ford Focus RS. The best thing about the exterior is the front fascia which looks imposing and aggressive from any angle. The side crease lines are fluidic and smooth. The Headlights are razor-sharp integrated with LED headlights. The Honeycomb grille looks bold and arresting with its stylish looks. As for the rear end, the horizontally placed LED taillights cover the side profile as well and look huge and striking. Moreover, the dual exhaust pipe looks classy and adorns the rear end of the car.

It also sports massive 20-inch blacked-out alloy wheels that add to the exterior looks. When it comes to dimensions, it is the most compact SUV here resulting in better maneuverability through the city traffic, and due to a shorter length and relatively shorter wheelbase, it handles corners with so much ease. It has a length of 188.8 inches, a width of 75.9 inches, and is also one of the tallest SUVs in its class measuring 68.3 inches. Moreover, with a ground clearance of 8.2 inches, it is an adept off-roading vehicle as well.

Among the competition, the Ford Edge ST’s external dimensions seem compact when compared to its rivals but still, it is on par with the others in the competition. However, the 6.9 inches of ground clearance in the Nissan Murano is lesser than the others which will cause some problems on rough surfaces. On the other hand, the 2022 Ford Edge ST is the shortest of the lot measuring 188.8 inches. The Chevrolet Blazer RS, on the other hand, comes a little wider while he2Jeep which has the largest wheelbase of 114.7 inches which affects its handling in the corners. When it comes to safety, Ford has tried its best to load the 2022 Ford Edge ST with all the essential features and bulletproof build quality. Nevertheless, the 2021 Ford Edge base earns an impeccable 5-star rating from NHTSA and a cumulative ‘Good’ rating from the IIHS and also grabs the award of 2021 Top Safety Pick award. Hence we expect a better build quality for the 2022 model year. 2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Competition

2022 Ford Edge ST vs Jeep Grand Cherokee:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a well-renowned SUV for off-roading capabilities and it still is better than the Ford Edge ST in terms of off-roading capabilities. Apart from that, the Ford seems to be better in many aspects. To start with, it has better performance than the Jeep Grand Cherokee by a considerable margin and also offers better fuel efficiency figures and a roomy cabin. On the flip side, the Grand Cherokee despite having less fuel economy comes with a large fuel tank which in turn offers a better driving range. All in All, the Ford seems to be more affordable and a better option.

2022 Ford Edge ST vs Nissan Murano:

The Nissan Murano has been in the American market for a very long time now and has a niche of its own. Both these cars use a V6 engine. However, the Ford puts out more power than the Nissan Murano and clearly delivers better performance. The Nissan Murano, on the other hand, smashes the Ford Edge in terms of fuel efficiency. Thanks to its underpowered engine. The Ford also offers a more comfortable interior. Moreover, the Nissan Murano is slightly expensive and we think the Ford Edge ST would be a better pick here.

2022 Ford Edge ST vs Chevrolet Blazer RS:

The Chevrolet Blazer RS is the direct rival to the Ford Edge ST in this division. Both these cars come with performance numbers and output. Although, the Blazer RS is slightly low on power. It still manages to keep pace with the Ford. Furthermore, the Blazer RS offers better mileage due to its underpowered engine and lightweight nature. The interiors of the Chevrolet Blazer are more appealing as well. Chevrolet Blazer RS also comes with a relatively cheaper price and it is worth considering when it comes to buying sporty SUVs.

2022 Ford Edge ST SUV Final Verdict

With the Edge ST, Ford has decided to up the ante on performance, exterior looks, and comfort. There are not many SUVs in the segment that are as sporty as this. It cranks up the heat in the mid-size SUV segment and comes at a more affordable price than most rivals in the segment. It makes the most sense in its class. On the downside, it offers the lowest driving range and mediocre fuel economy. In a nutshell, it is the ideal car when it comes to buying an SUV with sports car characteristics.
