The Ford F-150 is certainly one of the most revered pickup trucks in the country. It has gone on to become one of the highest-selling vehicles of all time. It has been a favorite amongst customers ever since it was unveiled back in 1948, and has improved in leaps and bounds over the years into a technologically adept and surprisingly agile machine. Although the 2021 model resembles the previous generation truck in its design, Ford claims that the vehicle underwent a redesign of over 92% of its parts.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The F-150 has always been known for its power-packed performance along with impressive build quality and towing capability, which are some of the reasons for its popularity, and the 2022 model will certainly carry those attributes. The 2022 Ford F-150 will be offered as Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew with three different bed sizes and over 7 powertrain options. All variants will be available with a single transmission setup, which is a 10–speed automatic gearbox. The 2022 F-150 Regular Cab is expected to start at just under $30,000 and will compete against the upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab, 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular cab, and the 2021 RAM 1500 Classic Regular Cab in the light-duty pickup truck segment.

2022 Ford F-150 Features

The pick-up truck segment is saturated with options, and we know just how odd that sounds with only four manufacturers really vying for the top spot in sales, especially in the ‘Heavy Duty’ range. While the personalization is in no way akin to buying a Rolls-Royce, you have plenty of engine options, drivetrains, and cab styles to choose from. Within these cab styles lie more variants, and the 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab is sold in six different trims across an even wider range of pricing.

Moreover, there are six engine options to choose from as well, including a diesel V6 (not available in top trim) and the hybrid PowerBoost engine introduced last year. The top-trim - Limited - can only be had with a 3.5L Ecoboost V6, a 5.0L V8, or the 3.5L Powerboost Hybrid. The EV variant has been announced and is expected to be called the EVerglades trim, and we can expect luxuries similar to the Limited variant due to the EV truck competition and its pricing.

We Recommend

As you can clearly see, the pick-up truck segment is very mature, and manufacturers definitely don’t shy away from offering luxuries at higher costs. For a truck that can be had for $30,000, it would seem awkward to pay a sum upwards of $70k. Nevertheless, the luxuries and conveniences provided in the higher trims are actually quite useful, although one could argue that the bare necessities are offered from the lowest XL trim onwards, indicating the F-150 is not just a cash grab from the Blue Oval.

The truck you choose is heavily dependent on your purpose, the time you spend behind the wheel, and most importantly how easy you are to impress, but if we had to suggest a trim, it would be the LARIAT. It offers basic luxuries such as a heated steering wheel for a cold day, and the leather upholstery and wooden interior accents should make for a comfortable experience at a reasonable price.

Price:

The 2022 F-150 will be offered in several trims based on the type of cab. These trims are expected to be priced starting from $30,000 all the way up to more than $71,500. Prices may increase as you configure the vehicle according to the applied options, which include optional RWD and AWD drivetrains.

Release date

The 2022 Ford F-150 is expected to be released in the second half of 2021.

2022 Ford F-150 Engine and Performance

The 2022 F-150 might get a total of 7 powertrain options, but the Regular Cab version gets a 3.3 L Naturally Aspirated V6 engine as standard, which produces 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 10–speed automatic transmission, which is common across all variants and powertrain options. It will be available in RWD as well as an AWD option and will do a 0-60 mph run in 7.3 seconds while covering a quarter-mile would take 13.2 seconds.

The ride quality and performance will undoubtedly be excellent as the 2021 F-150 has gone through serious changes. The pickup truck is also expected to be launched in the ‘Raptor’ version, which will boast a 5L Supercharged V8 and enough power to create sub 5 second 0-60 mph timings and a lot more. When comparing the price, Ford turns out to be the least expensive option in the lineup.

The 2022 F-150 might have slight performance improvements, and its unmatched towing capability would easily make it one of the top choices for potential customers. Its rivals like the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 have a towing capacity of 7,900 lbs each, while the F-150 boasts an 8,200 lbs towing capacity. The 2021 model has also proved its brilliant off-road capabilities which will certainly be passed down to the 2022 model year.

2022 Ford F-150 Fuel Economy

The 3.3L Naturally Aspirated V6 engine is one of the most fuel-efficient powertrains in the segment and offers the best in class fuel economy. It provides a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg in its standard configuration. Opting for an AWD drivetrain could reduce the fuel economy a little. The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab will deliver a combined driving range of 483 miles, thanks to the 23-gallon fuel tank onboard.

The GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab surpass the F-150 with their combined driving range of 504 miles, certainly due to the smaller 2.7 L turbocharged inline–4 engine and a larger tank capacity, while the RAM 1500 Classic promises to deliver the best in class fuel economy and driving range.

2022 Ford F-150 Interior

The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab might seem to be a utilitarian truck from the outside (which it is), but the revised interior now comes with better creature comforts and tech updates which makes it very attractive and a cool place to be in. The base trim doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to the upholstery on the seats and infotainment features. Once you start opting for optional extras, the interior will start to look decent and comfortable with leather upholstered seats, a center console with lots of storage space in the middle, and even foldable trays to have your lunch or rest your laptops on. You can also choose between a middle seat or the center console according to your preferences.

The first thing that catches your attention inside the 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab’s enormous interior is the touchscreen infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard. The infotainment display is an 8–inch touchscreen unit loaded with the latest software offered by Ford. The instrument cluster is also a 4–inch digital multi-information display unit that displays various vehicle information and can be controlled via the steering wheel infotainment controls. Ford also offers a 12–inch infotainment display and 8–inch fully digital driver’s display as an optional extra. The interior offers an ample amount of storage spaces for a Regular Cab and certainly has one of the best build quality and ergonomics in the class. FordPass connect 4G Mobile internet access, as well as compatibility features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, are offered as standard features.

The GMC and Chevrolet siblings are significantly longer and wider than the Ford F-150, and this translates into better cabin space. They are also slightly heavier than the Ford and certainly drive that way in comparison. When comparing the ground clearance of the pickups in the competition, both RAM and Ford stand tallest to the ground at 8.7 inches. Other noticeable exterior cues of the 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab include:

  • Hooks - Front Tow, Two (4x4 Only).
  • Spare Tire Carrier - Rear Underframe.
  • Fully-Boxed, High-Strength Steel Frame.
  • Tailgate, Key Lock.
  • Cargo Lamp, Integrated with Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL).

The current generation of F-150s is engineered with the best industrial and engineering design practices to ensure that the chassis and the body are rigid and stable and won’t cause a safety issue in the event of a crash. The newly developed chassis and platform that has been carried over from the 2021 model make sure that the 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab is one of the safest cars out there without a doubt. NHTSA and IIHS safety ratings are not available for the 2022 model year as well as the 2021 F-150. The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab comes with a host of standard safety features such as:

  • Forward-collision warning system
  • Safety canopy curtain airbags
  • Side-impact beams
  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Automatic high – beam assist

2022 Ford F-150 Competition

2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab vs 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 regular Cab

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab has better interior features, more cargo space, and the best in class driving range to offer for an additional couple of thousand dollars when compared to the Ford. But the 2022 F-150 Regular Cab has an advantage over the GMC Sierra with its updated infotainment system, better towing and off-road performance, advanced safety features, and the undoubted reliability of Ford.

2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab vs 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 takes a tough beating when compared to the Ford as the F-150 looks better, performs better, and certainly has a better fuel economy when compared to the Silverado. F-150’s infotainment system is also way better when compared to what the Chevrolet Silverado has on offer.

2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab vs 2021 RAM 1500 Classic Regular Cab

The rivalry between the F-150 and the RAM 1500 will continue in the year 2022 as both the trucks pull in a lot of attraction from enthusiasts because of their sheer utility and looks. The RAM 1500 will definitely be the toughest rival for the F-150 as these trucks are similar in a lot of ways. The RAM 1500 though might slightly have an advantage in the fuel economy and range criteria.

2022 Ford F-150 Final Verdict

The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab is certainly the pickup truck to go for without a doubt as it offers the best in class performance, build quality, styling, infotainment system, and safety features. It certainly outshines its rivals in the segment and is worthy of the F-150 badge in every way. It is probably one of the best value-for-money trucks you can buy in this day and age. And if you need more interior space and performance, it is also available in variants like the SuperCab and SuperCrew and over 7 powertrain options to choose from according to your preferences which makes the F-150 an extremely desirable pickup truck.
