Usually, when someone thinks about going for a pickup truck, the main reasons behind that are its practicality and sturdiness which is harder to find anywhere else. However, there is one that is just apt in all senses in this regard. It’s the Raptor, the biggest and the most extreme version of Ford F-150 one can have.

Quite unconventional in its road presence, the Ford F-150 Raptor has been a class and attitude for a very long time. It does everything with style, actually, it does everything so well that rivals such as RAM 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 literally have to hustle to keep it away from the index. Starting price at $53,455 remains competitive and further squeezes the gap for anyone to enter that budget to value ratio.

It is also self-reliant in many aspects with its FordPass Connect and SYNC 3. On the whole, it is evident why it has been an epitome in the segment.

Which trim should you buy?

Having one trim might seem like a problem for some, but it is no worry as Ford offers tons of customization for the F-150 Raptor. Its performance alone can justify its price tag. Moreover, you are not going to miss on power-adjustable front seats and a good infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto integration. As for the packages, we would suggest going for the 801A Mid package as it updates the level of luxury by adding heated front seats, leather upholstery, updated driver information display, and additional active safety features.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Engine and Performance

7.0/10

A few years back Ford used to pack a V8 engine just like any other pickup truck, but now the F-150 Raptor is powered by a 3.5 Litre Twin Turbo V6 variant which can produce 450 horsepower and a torque of 510 lb-ft. The engine is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission which is pretty smooth in conjunction with a 4WD layout. To the unknowns, going for V6 over V8 might seem like a not-so-smart move but mind you that the Twin Turbo engine is a hidden gem and can easily outrun everything on the road. Think of it as the sportiest truck in the segment because it can go from 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and can finish a quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds.

Even if its rivals come with V8 engines, the Twin Turbo V6 engine of Raptor easily decimates everything that confronts it. Top-notch performance with an immense towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds is an engineering phenomenon that sets the benchmark for others to follow. The closest one to the former is the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 that has yet to do a lot more to be at par. Therefore, the Ford clinches the space quite comfortably. Despite having a similar powertrain as the GMC, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the slowest option in the segment taking 7 seconds to the 60mph mark.

How well does the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab handle?

Sure Raptor’s V6 engine is powerful enough but there are other factors too such as handling and suspension system which affect the overall driving experience. For instance, its steering wheel is pretty responsive with decent feedback from the road. Though the inherent body style makes it a bit difficult to maneuver around the corners yet the Raptor is the ultimate of offroading which is mainly because of the enhanced off-road suspension system with adaptive Fox Racing dampers as they can easily eliminate mid to large bumps effortlessly.

Further adding to that, comes the Trail control, Roll Stability Control, and HD anti-roll bars which make sure the toppling and lateral shifts are negated as much as possible. Even the wheels are in accordance with the requirements, providing that contact patch. Therefore, one can’t really complain about the handling pursuit, he/she gets entitled to, after owning it.

Braking Performance

Fortunately, Ford has loaded a competent braking system that is efficient enough to keep this beast under limits. You will find 13.8 inches front and 13.7 inches rear disc brakes and all are well ventilated. Features such as Hill hold control, electric parking brake, and hill descent control accompany the braking system and result in adequate control over the vehicle. This is why it manages to stop from 60 mph to a standstill in a short distance of 132 feet, a decent number for its segment considering how heavy and big it is. But it has to be kept in mind that the hard braking comes with nose dives.

When stacked against others, Ford F-150 Raptor offers bigger brakes than both Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. However, RAM 1500 takes the lead here by offering the biggest ones that translate to the shortest distance of 122 feet. This is by far a huge margin despite the fact it is one of the heaviest as well. On the other hand, the same parameter measures to be 132 ft and 134 ft for the other two rivals, GMC, being a bit better.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Fuel Economy

4.0/10

Seeing how powerful the twin-turbo V6 engine of Raptor is, nobody will question you if you would have expected an average fuel economy. But surprisingly the end results are not as bad as one might suspect. The 450 horsepower powertrain offers a mileage of 15 MPG in the city, 18 MPG on the highways, and 16 MPG when combined, which tends to be a decent driving range varying from 390 miles to 468 miles with its 26-gallon fuel tank.

When it comes to fuel economy, the F-150 Raptor stays behind the others, meanwhile, RAM 1500 takes the lead here by offering the best return including driving range followed by Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. This is one of the realms where the Ford might appear the most underwhelming yet once viewed in isolation the figures are manageable considering its towing capacity.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Interior

9.0/10

Getting inside the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab might be a hustle for some as it is higher than the others but once you get past that, a spacious and attractive cabin welcomes you. The whole interior design looks attractive with decent quality materials and offers a sporty feel to it. The leather-wrapped steering with various controls is manual tilt and telescopic. As for the occupants, power-adjustable front bucket seats are available which can be updated to heated ones. Both front and rear row seats come with leather upholstery and offer enough room for maximum-sized occupants. In addition to these, it gets a standard 5.5 feet cargo bed and 52.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity that seem to be a little less comparatively.

The F-150 Raptor offers a content cabin in its class which is equally comfortable. However, both Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are more balanced in their spacing and flexibility which marks questions to the former’s credibility. But it is the RAM 1500 Longhorn Crew Cab that has to be placed on the podium for its rear-row room that can take on even adults without any hassle with easy ingress and egress. Thus, it is the Raptor that needs a minor tweak to dust off the stain from its imagery. Below are some of the key interior features:

  • Power adjustable and heated front seats
  • 60/40 split one-touch flip-up seat
  • Power adjustable heated steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Chrome Interior Accents
  • Fade-To-Off Interior Lighting
  • Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The infotainment system of the F-150 Raptor is powered by Ford’s Sync3 software. It comes with an 8 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen that is pretty responsive. The system UI feels intuitive and works as intended. However, you will find a faster system in its rivals. But one can easily bypass that, as support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is available. The voice control system, 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and SiriusXM are other assets that have relevance in this unit. As for the entertainment, a 7 speaker audio system has been given which can be upgraded to a premium Bang and Olufsen sound system by paying extra.

Below are some of its key infotainment features:

  • 8 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with Sync3
  • Apple CarPlay support
  • Android Auto support
  • SiriusXM

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Exterior

7.0/10

Although there aren’t any changes in the exterior design of the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab when compared to last year's model, one may find the color contrasts a bit interesting which include Iconic Silver, Rapid Red, and Lead Foot. As per design language, at the front, you get a big black wide grille with mean-looking automatic headlights. Even the front bumper is minimalistic and raised, suited for off-roading. The Raptor is a lot wider than usual trucks especially because of extended fenders. The increased 11.5-inch ground clearance easily welcomes rough terrains. The rear is the same as the normal F-150 but with a low entry for easy loading cargo. The 17 inches all-terrain tires perform impressively. Overall it is easily the most exotic-looking truck in the market.

When compared to the others, Raptor is much wider and heavier which is why it is a bit harder to keep it steady during quick turns. This is, in turn, compensated by additional extensions. The dimensional limits do push it towards instability and rollover but the weight distribution is on the brighter side which curbs them, especially on the lateral shift wheels. The rivals are somewhat parallel to the aforementioned, hardly marking a huge variation altogether.

Below are some of its key exterior features:

  • 17-inch all-terrain wheels
  • Aluminum Panels
  • Aero-Composite Led Headlamps

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Safety

6.0/10

The F-150 Raptor replicates its aggressive stance in keeping the drive safer. As a result, it has scored four stars in crash test ratings by the NHTSA. The IIHS also gave it the highest possible markings. Multiple dual-stage airbags at key positions for maximum survivability are available including features such as a forward-collision warning system with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitoring unit with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane departure warning system, and lane-keeping assist. Rear parking sensors and dynamic hitch assist backup camera have also been incorporated into it. Opting for Lux package loads an adaptive cruise control, surround-view camera system, trailer brake control, and trailer backup assist. Features like these are the reason why Raptor can be driven aggressively on-road and off-road without much caring about losing control.

Below are some of the key safety features:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Trail control
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Competition

8.5/10

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab vs 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Double Cab

When stacked against Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Raptor comes out as much faster on the road and better stays under control. It offers a cabin that is bold in design and feels comfortable. It might be heavier and bigger but it stays nimble on its feet. Silverado on the other hand offers better fuel economy, more room for occupants, and better-towing capabilities. Thus, this face-off is more concerned with the owner’s preference of either practicality or exhilaration-cum-touch.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab vs 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Double Cab

Again when compared to Sierra 1500 AT4, Raptor takes the lead by being aggressive on and off-road. The AT4 is also made to tackle off-roading but still, Raptor comes out superior because of trail control and various other assists. Not to forget the increased ride height as well. The Sierra, on the other hand, dominates in everything else as it is more fuel-efficient, spacious for occupants, and lighter in handling. Therefore, this remains a tough call as both are parallel to one another to a large extent.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab vs 2020 RAM 1500 Longhorn Crew Cab

The RAM 1500 against F-150 Raptor is a tough choice as both have their unique qualities. The RAM offers top-tier fuel economy which means no worry about refueling stoppages, better braking power, the biggest cabin in its segment since it is only available as a crew cab, however, the Raptor can be configured with the same. The RAM's interior is comfortable and oozes with quality, a long list of features, and it has much better-towing capabilities side by side. The Raptor, meanwhile, is more powerful, faster, and offers an incredible off-roading capability.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab Final Verdict

7.7/10

As always, Raptor comes out on top by offering almost everything you wish for in a truck. You get incomparable performance which is breathtaking both on and off-road, a spacious cabin that is equally comfortable, decent towing capabilities, and bold visuals that are hypnotizing. Yes, we agree it is not one of the best fuel-efficient vehicles in its class but that was expected because of its power. So if you are all about power and fun then yes you should consider getting the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab.
